I'm not worried at all. Was just surprised to see something like that posted without anyone getting nervous about it. Good sign, I suppose.

ha yeah, maybe this class has helped IE turn over a new leaf when it comes to reacting to any little news item.

I'm no worried about him leaving. But, The football team could have a stellar IM baseball team with EV and Hunter Jr aboard.

Also, I've seen people talking about JJ Watt around here and I'd just like to point out that JJ was a walk on at Wisconsin. Imagine if EV has that type of growth at ND, woah.

No one is concerned that some MLB team might offer EV a $3m contract to play baseball? Figured this would have generated at least a little hand-wringing.

The only way he is getting offered $3 million is if he is drafted within the first few picks of the 1st round. The way the MLB draft is now constituted, each team is basically allotted a certain amount of money to sign their draft picks these days and if you go over by so much, you can get charged a 75% luxury tax and if you exceed by even more, you can lose your next year's first round pick.

So, if Team A drafts him #1 overall an offers $3million, that team now loses $3million from their allotted draft cap which means (if they started with $10 million) they now have only $7million to sign the rest of their draft.

For comparison, last year's #1 overall pick received $4.8 million and only 7 out of the 31 1st round picks received $3million or more.

It get's complicated but basically, he's not getting drafted in a round that will make him want to miss ND, especially if he already has low interest in baseball.

Even if he is drafted in the 11th round or later, the most he can get as a signing bonus is 100K even though teams can offer more for those with scholarship offers but no team will give him $3million.

Also considering I have not seen his name once in terms of top MLB draft prospects.

Yup. In the past it might have possible but not this time around. I just saw too that a guy who left Stanford for pro ball is returning to their football team this season after one year in pro ball. If EV is already disinterested, then its best he stick to football which seems to be the case regardless.

I work with a guy who used to pitch in AA for the Chi Sox and the Rays.

It is not about the money, if it was, EV would be playing in the SEC.

Oh, it's about the money at ND too, my friend. Just more long term, steady cash flow and professional development to boot. EV was chatting about meeting future CEOs in the halls of ND's dormitories, and he's right. Long term > short term.

Didnt Vanderdoes say in his interview that he is not even playing baseball this year? He stated he would be working out with a certain trainer or something.

Here is what I have heard that seems reasonably true:

If he has a relationship outside of football (gray area) he can communicate about anything, except;

He cannot disclose the time, date, or any detail of a prospects visit.

He can talk non ND football to anyone, anytime.

He cannot offer money or trips.

Thanks for that Bogs. I think where we really needed him was to play the role that Jaylon played this year but because he didn't commit early it was not possible. He can certainly help if he is chosen to host a recruit in the 2014 cycle.
