Ok, I'm gonna say it bad memories be damned.

Kid reminds me of a slightly slower
but much bigger
version of Lynch.

Anyone else?

I can see that.

The first time I saw it was the Oregon camp film. There's a motor and edge that Lynch brought to his game, a tenacity. When I saw that film of Eddie bullying OL's into their own dummy, I was instantly reminded.

4 years ago I made one small statement when Teo picked Notre Dame. May you be injury free/may you turn out to be a Notre Dame man. May your experience be as fruitfull to you and your team as Manti Teo's was at Notre Dame. Go Irish!

Lynch was more of a pure pass rusher, whereas I think big EV can drop the hammer in the run game too. both players are naturally talented at what they do, they make it look easy.

I'm with you man. Kid's got a mean streak. I feel by watching his film however that he has the mindset to be more dedicated to his assignments though, which makes him even a greater asset.

I'm so excited about this class, we have serious momentum now and depth to go along with it. We have at least 4 players in this class that can make contributions right away, if we get one veteran guy to step up as a deep ball/outside threat, we could be very very good again next year.

cringe worthy. the reporter or whoever ok'd the live feed while Eddie was speaking to the school should be fired. embarrassing.

If you look back through the thread at the time the PC was supposed to start you'll see they had trouble getting the show off the ground. The reporter made have simply jumped when the technical difficulties were straighten out trying to make the newscast. It was obvious from his comment that he had to recap what was supposed to be a live announcement.

Am I in the minority that thinks EV won't make an immediate impact like Lynch? I think he will contribute and be good enough. Lynch was making national headlines with his play. Even his mean streak. Like him or not, the dude was capable of hurting people and putting fear in them. EV may be the same way but let's not act as if Lynch was a joke.

I also understand EV will most likely be inside. A beast inside at that. I guess I am just not seeing anything close to the Lynch/EV comparisons as others besides ELITE. Both are and will be amazing. That is all I have.

They are at different positions which impacts the impact. Sacks tend to come from the outside rather than the inside.

I also believe EV is expected to be a every down player. Lynch wasn't. He was a pass specialist.

No doubt Lynch was a disrupter. Unfortunately it wasn't just of the other team.

I loved Lynch and his skills as much as anyone else. But when you talk about a mean streak and an ability to get after it, I'm not sure what else you want after looking at this. The kid is an animal, and as I said, seems more apt to think about his assignments instead of himself.

As a true freshman? I don't see that happening. Lynch was a pass-rush specialist as a true freshman, but would have/will grow into an every down player, much the same way I expect EV to.

I think you're right on the money here. I LOVE the way EV plays and think he has the potential to grow into an All-American type player for us, but physically I don't think Eddie is close to where Lynch was coming out of HS, especially given the positions they play. Lynch came in as a true freshman and was hands-down the most impressive physical specimen on the team at 6'6", 270 with 4.6 speed (for comparison's sake, Jadeveon Clowney, widely considered the most impressive physical specimen in college football, is 6'6", 256, and runs a 4.65). I don't think Eddie is quite at that level in terms of God-given physical ability, and to make a major impact on the DL we have coming back, I think he'll need that type of God-given physical ability.

No, I don't expect that either. I didn't work that well. I do expect him to contribute as freshman and start as a soph. But as a freshman I expect him to be able to play regardless of the down or distance.

Lynch excelled in situations. I didn't see Lynch displaying signs of growth into a complete DE. He was an undisciplined bull rusher. I didn't see him becoming an everydown player as he didn't seem to want to do what was required.

Time will tell ... with both players.

I'm blown away at the lynch/ev debate. Some of you jokers are never satisfied.

I hope I didn't give the impression that I'm not satisfied with EV. In fact, I'm much more satisfied with EV than I ever was with Lynch, due mostly to what appears to be a much better head on his shoulders, versatility, and positional value. At the same time, you can't sit here and tell me that EV is on the same level, strictly from a God-given physical ability standpoint, as Lynch. EV is an outrageous athlete with a ridiculous combination of size and quickness, but Lynch is a once or twice a decade type physical talent.

You serious, Clark?

Lynch could NEVER line up at NG and do what EV does.

I'll concur they have the same nasty attitude, but versatility? It's not even close

"Once or twice in a decade"? That would be Jaylon or Eddie.

Pass rushers are once or thirty times a cycle

Neither of those two qualify.

You think Lynch's skillset happens 30x annually?!

As a pass rusher, yes

You don't think Jaylon qualifies as a once in a decade talent over Lynch?

Edit: any speed rusher can come off the edge, do you think Jarvis Jones was better than Te'o?

Well, you're wrong. Lynch's pass-rushing ability doesn't come around 30x annually.

Neither of them are "once or twice in a decade" players. Vince Young, Orlando Pace, and Adrian Peterson are the type of player in that category.

They do different things, so what's the point in saying? Jones will get picked before Te'o, if that means something.

That's convenient, because my original argument was that Lynch doesn't have the versatility that EV does, and to say that there aren't 30 excellent pass rushers per cycle is foolish.

I'll hold true that Jaylon's skill set is way closer to being "once in a decade" more than Mr. Lynch's abilities

My point was/is being a pass rusher, "pure pass rusher" (however they phrase it) is a sexy trait. It's been argued ad nauseum that Te'o was the better linebacker. Just because Jones WILL get drafted higher doesn't make him a better overall player
