WHATEVER!

Happy to even discuss favorite book and even favorite author since a couple of people have written newer ones in recent years with the consent of the Fleming family.

For those opposed to all things 007, feel free to tell us why!

That freedom does not exist in a right and just world. (Sounds best in Dr. No's voice).

I feel bad for Pierce Brosnan and Roger Moore. They were good Bonds but the bulk of their respective movies were mediocre to bad. Timothy Dalton had the opposite fortune; he was probably the worst Bond but his movies were two of the stronger entries in the series. Connery is, of course, the king but Daniel Craig is really killing it so far ("Quantum of Solace" was disappointing but his other 2 movies are fantastic).

Never seen a movie. Are they any good? And yes, I'm being serious.

A very mixed bag. The ones from the Connery era are classics. Most of the Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan installments are just campy & silly - almost like watching a Scooby Doo cartoon - and both actors were too pretty and prissy for the part. The recent ones with Daniel Craig as Bond are very good. The stories are more serious and he's a good actor. His Bond is a seriously mean, tough, badass SOB who'll **** you up, but with a lot more depth and complexity than any of the previous Bonds. Connery really likes him in the role.

I pretty much agree with all you said. I think Daniel Craig is great as Bond. Loved the bathroom fight scene in CR. The girl in Quantum Of Solace is smoking hot.

Sean Connery was great. always felt like I could kick Roger Moore and Bronsan ***. Craig has a serious edge to him and more believable in the role. Your're right...the stories are better as well.

The best Bond line was the on following Bond introducing himself as " Bond , James Bond.' Mr. Bigs says, " Names is for tombstones. Waiste the Honkey."

"No, Mister Bond, I expect you to die" has to win the quote award. Hands down.

Most of Pierce Brosnan's movies may have sucked, but Goldeneye may have been the best bond movie. That movie was kick*ss

Of the Moore/Brosnan movies, which I will agree were inferior to the Connery movies; I thought Live and Let Die was the best. It came out at the right time in my life; voodoo is great shiit for movies; Geoffrey Holder was a phenomenal bad guy, with just that laugh, let alone the makeup; not to mention Yaphet Kotto; cigarette boats on the bayous are always great; Jane Seymour, fresh and new, she was devastating then; Theme by McCartney & Wings was awesome; and, need I go on. The movie actually was an advancement in a way with African-American bad guys, who were worthy opponents, deadly, and had brains. Though more lighthearted in approach, the movie did not focus on Moore's shortcomings in the role, including the fact that he was not Sean Connery instead packed in the action.

Movie: Diamonds are Forever. I don't know why, but I always liked this movie. It's kind of an odd one. I liked Goldfinger too, gotta love some Odd Job...unless you're playing against him in Goldeneye on the 64.
Bond actor: Connery
Bond girl -

Tough one, but I gotta go with Honor Blackman as Pussy Galore, the name is just epic. Honorable mentions to Ursula Andress in Dr. No, Jane Seymour in Live and Let Die, and Famke Janssen in Goldeneye.
Bad guy - Hmmm...Jaws
car - Any of them, they're all pretty awesome
stunt - Probably the finale to Goldeneye, the whole satellite scene was cool.
one liner - ""Shocking, positively shocking" - Goldfinger

Moore's early efforts were pretty good; in fact "Live and Let Die" probably helped to stay some of the silliness that was creeping in during the last 2 Connery films. Connery was the best Bond, but "You Only Live Twice" and especially "Diamonds Are Forever" were starting to delve into self-parody. Unfortunately, Moore's films delved into almost full self-parody after a few entries in the series.

"Your move, Mr. Bond."

I am not big into Bond, but this was my favorite of any of them. I think I read recently that they had a different card game (possibly Baccarat?) planned for the movie but they went with the popularity of hold 'em instead. I may be wrong though. I liked that they stuck with pop culture.

Chemin de Fer was the game played in the novel, a variant of Baccarat. It's actually pretty simple to understand, but is much more a game of luck. I think using hold'em was smart because of its popularity, like you mentioned. It made the whole sequence more accessible. The scene when Bond gets busted and has to explain what happened to Vesper hit home with lots of guys who were in the same boat with their wives/girlfriends.

"I thought you said you were the best player at that table."
"I was."
"Then why are you coming home broke at three in the morning?"
"Because that idiot chased a gutshot to the river and drew out on me. But poker's a game of skill, I swear!"
"Whatever. The couch awaits you."

Reelz TV is currently running a Bond fest. Goldfinger was followed by You Only Live Twice, on now, to by followed by Diamonds Are Forever.

Bond movies throughout February.

I'm guessing you've been in that boat, too, right Bogs?

Shiit, I have come home drunk after playing with nothing to show for it but the reek of whiskey and cigar smoke, fallen dead drunk on the bed, had my (ex) wife take one look at me, and without a word hadher leave the room for the couch.

You do not want your wife to leave the room. Man, do not take it there. Trust me.

Funny, when I got divorced one of the things I figured was that I would appreciate no one there to nag me, throw me out or whatever. Yes life is more Serene, since I have been divorced I hardly feel the need to drink anymore!
