Can't imagine him getting drafted, but I'd say there is a strong possibility he gets a training camp shot.

We can bet that the teams will be contacting Charlie. Dayne's draft possibilities, which looked to be close to zero prior to this ball game, probably depend upon what Weis says privately to them. They're going to trust Charlie on a pro QB's potential.

Brady Quinn and Jimmy Clausen haven't exactly worked out and I bet Charlie was very complimentary in his comments on those two guys.

Neither have Leinart, Cassel, Booty, or to a lesser extent Palmer but that doesn't mean they won't draft Barkely or won't care what Kiffin or Carrol had to say because most were recruited by or have played under Carrol or Kiffin (HC/OC). I think when they ask the coach about the player it is less about ability (they can see it on tape) and more about personality, maybe Charlie was spot on with these assessments of the guys anyway

Kid got benched at Kansas this year. KANSAS. The same Kansas that went 1-11. No way he gets a combine invite.

He lost starting jobs to Tommy Rees and a freshmen at Kansas. He is not getting drafted but should get a camp invite based off his potential.

Like 95% of QBs don't "work out."

They're still in the league and getting pay checks. That alone is a massive success. Especially Brady.

Didn't Charlie bench Dayne for a 2-star true freshman halfway through the season? How does he explain this?

They're not successful based on where they were drafted. Clausen was so bad (albeit as a rookie on a bad team) that his team drafted another QB the following year. And Brady has hardly been a 'massive success' as a first-round pick.

Did you just compare Barkley to Crist?

I was comparing Weis' understanding of what it takes to be a qb in the NFL to what Kiffin or Carrol would know and how NFL teams won't take Weis' word for less because his qbs haven't turned out in the pros because as Buster pointed out most don't. Find me a place where a even mentioned Crist. I mentioned Barkley because USC quarterbacks have been flops recently but I doubt tht would affect the way they would view the info on Barkley or other qbs that follow.

Dayne is a nice young man and he'll be a good fan to some NFL team. He has a degree, so he should be able to afford season tickets and have Sundays off.

Playing in the NFLPA Collegeiate Bowl on ESPN2.

I'm way behind on this...but I think Dayne gets a shot as a free agent somewhere. He is a big kid, Smart, and has somehow retained some mobility, and has a canon...He could be no.3 in Denver, or Atlanta off the top of my head.

His problem was slowing the game down...you can say accuracy, but too many coaches have seen him throw it Sunday through Friday and thought he had it...that means its mental...given time to devote full time, and maybe an opportunity to be in the same system for a few years w/o the beatings and injuries...y'all might be surprised....I'd sure take him as an FA just to see...

I had a friend who was a great qb at Ohio-Wesleyan. He made the Bears squad, (I believe, it was a ton of years ago), and what I learned is those post second string guys live a life of danger off the fuel of their desire. If Dayne wants it bad enough, he will make a roster. Tear up the league? Probably not.

I agree...I don't think he'll be an intended starter, but I think he could hang on as a 3, and maybe work himself into a 2...but it really depends...in essence I hope Karma evens things out for the kid and he gets some good fortune...

He couldn't hold the starting job at a below average school. The guy isn't going to make an NFL roster. I'm sure he'll get a camp invite somewhere, but that'll likely be the extent of it.

Maybe he gets a shot in the CFL or in the arena league. I like Dayne as much as the next guy, but I just don't see it.

I can never think of Dayne without seeing that aweful play against USC in my head. A 14-point swing on one play. Might be the worst football play I have ever seen. That said, I hope he goes to the Patriots ... I hate the Patriots.
