Manti isnt from a family of means, so i dont think he can jet off to Hawaii anytime he feels like it. ND cant buy him tickets because I am sure that would be a violation. Though it does beg the question wouldn't he have visited her during the summer? Did he stay in South Bend all summer?

I wondered about that, would that be a recruiting violation? If so then it makes sense.

IIRC her "funeral" was the day of or the day after the Michigan State game.

I thought she died the day before the game, that's a quick funeral, but if he didn't go to his grandmothers funeral then it does make sense.

Swarbrick is a sharp dude and a lawyer who brought in an investigative team to figure out what happened.

For Jack to go "all in" behind Manti and defend him tells me it's beyond doubt that Manti was duped here. God, I hope...

This too is my stance. I haven't time to read what's new on this thread today...is there any update when we might hear from Manti?

Manti needs to get his side of the story out asap before hearsay becomes fact in the eyes of the public. I presume his agents will be organizing this rather than Notre Dame from now on???

If he didn't go to his grandmothers funeral then he didn't have the means and you're right it would be a recruiting type violation or something.

What else would anyone expect? This story has taken more twist and turns than the Beast at Kings Island. Very few and I mean very few people really know what happened so it only makes sense.

i agree. what school wants stories coming from within the university itself? it creates disharmony among the faculty, staff, and students. there are lots of sources at the school, including teammates, dishing out information to seemingly random internet journalists.

I do think Manti is the victim here. A guy who embellished his relationship with his internet/phone only g/f, but a victim nonetheless. But he needs to extensively address this today!

First Take is now discussing Regan Mauia claiming he met her. Lomas Brown and Christian Fauria both believe Te'o was scammed. Smith dissents because he's been a journalist for 20 years and sees people lie all the time.

"She was in a crash, he wasn't there"

"She had leukemia, he wasn't there."

"She died, he wasn't there."

"Three years and he was never there!"

Bayless agreed those are red flags But Bayless pointed out that Swarbrick went where he didn't have to go supporting Te'o.

Smith added ND believes "The dude is phenomenal and they believe it!" but could they not also be duped?

After the NCG I was wondering what will we talk about now? This is not what I had in mind.

I hope that this goes well for Manti, I really do. But at some point doesn't ND have to say " we need to look out for the school"?

IIRC Manti did not go to his grandmother's funeral either. I believe he traveled back to Hawaii during the bye week. That was post funeral.

I also wonder why everyone talks about her being his girlfriend for 3 yeras. If I remember the Rome interview correctly, their relationship really blossomed in the last few to 6 months. I may be dreaming though as the last 11 days all feel like a nightmare.

I know! I am really hoping Notre Dame found more in their investigation than just those two people who knew and were joking about it on twitter a while back. It appeared though from Swarbrick's PC that they used that as strong evidence supporting Manti. I really hope ND got in contact with Ronniah Tuiassasopo(sp) and has found more than just a Catfish documentary and some tweets.

First Take Survey

First Take Survey

66% feel ND handled it wrong.

Smith agrees because they didn't leave themselves any wiggle room. He brought up Armstrong and Paterno. "ND is all in and they'll get pinched IF Te'o is complicit."

I agree with Pat Forde's comment:

"At the risk of stereotyping, I'll offer this conjecture: Te'o is a Mormon, and there are a lot of LDS members who lack significant romantic experience when entering young adulthood. Courtship might have been a novel and/or highly idealized concept. Physical interaction might not have been at the top of his relationship wish list."

IMO this is as close to getting it as anyone in the press has come...I would say he might even avoid physical contact

He needs to come out and address this. IMO he needs to own the embellishment...Duped or not.

Feel bad for Manti....

1. Has zero to do with nd! If urban 's wife got cought cheating would Ohio st be in deep trouble?

2. Probably an innocent religious man that got duped by some sickos

3. Social media is the worst thing that has ever happened to real life.

4. Team knew on 12/26 and without a doubt is a major reason our d got ran over. The leader was probably in ruins.

5. Kelly may have really considered NFL to be able to approach football in a 100% business mode.

I guess we will see. But hopefully Manti if innocent recovers and plays well in the NFL.

The longer he makes us wait for an explanation, the more skeptical I become. If the truth just makes him look like a victim and some naive college kid, just get it over with! I was relieved when he was supposed to interview today but now I'm starting to wonder what's going on behind the scenes.

Either way this turns out I see it hurting Notre Dame's image. I'm not saying that ND should back off and leave it be but I also think the disscusion should be had. Would it be unreasonable for ND to say something a long the lines of " this is a horrible situation but it we feel it should be handled by Manti and his family". I don't like the idea of washing their hands of him but at the same time I want to know if ND would be best served making it Manti Teo's problem and not theirs to insulate themselves. Again I'm just saying its a conversation that should be had (probably already has been had at ND I'd guess)

No way Mr. Swarbrick puts his reputation on this if it isn't true.

I'm confident Swarbrick believes what he's saying, but it's always possible that he just thinks it's true because he believes Te'o. Maybe Te'o is lying? Not saying it's true, I doubt it is and hope it isn't, just playing devil's advocate.
