Brian Hamilton @ChiTribHamilton
"On Dec. 26, Notre Dame coaches were informed by Manti Te’o and his parents that Manti had been the victim of what appears to be a hoax in which someone using the fictitious name Lennay Kekua apparently ingratiated herself with Manti and then conspired with others to lead him to believe she had tragically died of leukemia. The University immediately initiated an investigation to assist Manti and his family in discovering the motive for and nature of this hoax. While the proper authorities will continue to investigate this troubling matter, this appears to be, at a minimum, a sad and very cruel deception to entertain its perpetrators."
Temped to delete this for absurdity. Why don't we wait until we have something approaching the full story before we declare that Te'o will be a pariah in the NFL?
So he basically did the entire awards circuit without revealing that it was a hoax after they knew. WOW.
Notre Dame. What have you done
ND says they found out on December 26th that it was a hoax... and did nothing to correct the facts.
They knew the day after Christmas. Wow.
My dude @MTeo_5 is as real as it gets... anybody Thinking otherwise needs to check themselves. #DreamChaser #NDFBFamily
wait how are you getting there? The awards were before Christmas
What did Notre Dame do? This says nothing about the University. They did nothing wrong. This is a trusting kid who got duped. He obviously is very religious and felt this was a spiritual relationship and didnt need to meet face to face, or something like that.
What would have been accomplished by announcing the hoax immediately? Is it scandalous if they kept it under wraps in the hope of saving Te'o some embarrassment?
