Already recapped twice but with so many posts in this thread no surprise it's getting lost.

Basically, this is all going on in an attempt to push hard for high pay for assistants + some programmatic changes. Everyone expects BK to stay.

It makes sense. I just can't imagine the fight is over BK's money AND/OR field turf. These were kind of expected.

Even assistants pay seems like it wouldn't lead to any impasse in negotiations. Any combination of these just doesn't lead to a likelihood that an agreement wouldn't be reached.

It has to be recruiting.

He isn't going to get fired. First of all, Jack is not a mini tyrant and a buffoon like Gene DeFilipo. And second, that act of petulance has really worked out great for BC....they've won like 4 games since then.

I think the worst case here (aside from him shockingly getting and taking the Eagles job which would be unbelievable on both ends) is that the leverage play backfires and he doesn't get the kind of raise he was looking for, or maybe any raise at all. He's still under contract for many years. Then you have an upset coach who may or may not let that effect his performance and all but guarantees his tenure here won't end with him being carried off the field and into the sunset.

Hadn't worked out for sure for BC...but exactly NONE of these ADs pay much attention to how things went for another guy at another school because they all think they are smarter than the next guy. If Jack and BOT decide to draw a line...they will, and they will have assured each other they can figure it out going forward...Rather RhodeIrish on IE thinks its a dumb idea or not...

Again, I think BK is making a play...but I think that soley based on how these things have gone in the past...I, like you, know 0 actual facts to make any call. I, Like you, know 0 about the prior and current relationship between BK and JS. Nor can anyone assume what conduct by one changes said relationship to become untenable. We can guess...hope...pray (if you are so inclined) this goes a certain way...

I hope it ends with BK getting what he wants and staying at ND...but I'm not going to dismiss other possibilities because they aren't congruent w/ how I see it.

This is the most bizarre story I've covered in 37 years.

Here are the facts as of late Friday afternoon.

Brian Kelly interviewed with the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday. Kelly is one of at least 10 candidates to replace Andy Reid in Philadelphia. No one knows a timetable for the Eagles decision.

He recently hired former Bears player Trace Armstrong as his agent--which apparently was a big surprise to a lot of people involved with this story.

Kelly has been on vacation. He's not out of the country as other reports have indicated. It's believed Kelly is back in South Bend or will be shortly.

There has been no comment from Irish Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick concerning his head coach and no word from Kelly concerning his future. In fact, many of those people closest to Kelly have heard very little from the Irish coach--and what they've heard, has given them no indication of what the future holds.

The Irish coaching staff is trying to hold together one of the top recruiting classes in the nation but recruits are starting to ask questions---some of which the assistants can't answer like-- who is going to be the head coach?

There is less than a month away from national signing day. Early enrollees are already on campus set to begin classes early next week. Alex Anzalone, announced Thursday he was going to enroll early at Florida instead.

I disagree, there's definitely some new information here:

* Jeff Jeffer's says this is the most bizarre story he's ever covered in his 37 years of covering the program. Which is telling.
* Kelly's agent is recently hired: A former NFL player with lots of connections to the NFL. How this correlates with Kelly's likelihood of leaving/staying, who knows.
* Jeff Jeffers has many sources/contacts/connections close to the program, and nothing he's heard has led him to believe that this is all simply a big negotiation tactic. In fact, in the video, he said that the longer this goes on the more likely it's that Kelly will not return. Which is analysis I agree with.
