I have always loved ya girl, but seriously... did you have enough desire to get into Notre Dame?

If I am wrong, my bad. But Notre Dame isn't a base level of accomplishment. Kids miss out every year academically with our school and claiming that makes them a bad person is silly. Is every single good person you ever met capable of getting into Notre Dame?

This kid has never said a bad word about Notre Dame and wanted to come here. I feel more sorry for him than mad.

Yes and I did get into ND......thanks wooly! Just couldn't get the $$$ together to pay for it so I had to go elsewhere.

So.... Let me ask you this, would you want someone that doesn't even know you to assume you were too lazy to work, make the money and try to get yourself into ND?

Trust me I tried, but I also didn't want to have huge debt coming out of college. Part of my plan when I started looking at schools. And honestly, I've been judged all my life and I will continue to be judged for my sexual orientation and for the fact that I am a woman in a male dominated pursuit so don't even go there.

And I wasn't judging AQM for his decision, the kid is a freaky athlete and will easily be playing on Sunday, I was simply calling question how he could so quickly cool on his desire to go to ND.

You might have money problems but who knows what problems AM had during his life. You don't know what he has gone through to get where he is. His social-economic situation is significantly different then yours was. Furthmore, we don't know what his issue was. If it was something that was a mistake early in HS that he wasn't able to overcome later, how is that different than you having a $$ issue at the end of your high school?

All I am saying is that getting into Notre Dame is a challenge. Everyone's challenge is different. Saying that this young man's path was less difficult than yours is assumptive and backed up with zero facts. Believe it if you will, but I will wish the young man well. He has shown me nothing other than the fact that he is a fine young man with a bright future in front of him.

I was literally just about to type this same thing. There are lots of people who work really hard to apply and interview for countless private and public scholarships so they can cobble together the money to attend an expensive school like ND. I knew several of them at ND. In fact I married one of them. If someone told me he got into ND but didn't go because he couldn't afford it, I could just as easily say that that person must not have really wanted to attend ND as I could say that AQM must not have really wanted to attend ND because the football team wanted him but he couldn't get cleared academically. But that wouldn't be fair at all, would it ... some people really can't afford it, just like some people just can't get admitted to ND. Like everyone is saying, not fair to assume that it was simply a lack of desire that stopped AQM from coming to ND.

Then I guess you didn't want it bad enough? What's the old saying? "Where there's a will there's a way".

There is a difference between having an opinion on a situation based on the knowledge you have at hand, and presenting something as fact through direct statement or strong inference. There is no doubt her opinion is shared by others and is reasonable for some based on the information available to them, but to state something like that as fact is irresponsible and unfair to the kid. That was what we had issue with.

Everybody should use IMO, it makes things so much easier. (And I was so against that very thing, earlier.)

I am having trouble wrapping my head around the hostility here. If I would have made that assumption, as I often do, someone would had said stop being an a$$hole, and I would have asked for Binaca, and it all would have been good.

This is a very small thing that has come up very big.

I would state it as thus; from the certainty that AQM wanted to go to ND more than anything in the world, to an immediate verbal to another school sets off bells.

Further, Miami is working to get it's football stuff in line, and improve its academic standings. Miami's requirements today under Donna Shalala are not that far off ND's. Take a look. So something somewhere at some end isn't right.

And none of this is in blue is dependent on my opinion.

IMO is my go to because I'm such a fanatic and my homerism can be a little ridiculous. ;)

I saw on Mind of Mike that AQM wanted ND, couldn't get the test score, and if he does, don't be surprised to see things beat up with him. That's pretty much been all of our stance with him anyway. Do you think Farrell reds IE?

There is a lot of wiggle room in that "not that far off." What if they difference is a single core course requirement that we have and they don't? That would be consistent with not being able to get into N even though Miami is trying to improve.

IMO this recrutiment isnt over yet! :)

I get the same feeling. I'm hoping for a surprise much like on Christmas morning when you think you've unwrapped all your gifts and then mom or dad are like, "Hey, what's that over there? Behind the tree..."

I think that might be what TP refered to in the other thread.

Any thoughts on if this is all coming together now? If BK does get the academic standards more to his liking, I wonder what happens here.

It's more than just the GPA.

If academic standards are indeed being discussed, they wont be completely relegated to GPA. We have missed on several kids that had acceptable GPA's but were lacking in core classes, etc. I think this is the bigger academic issue regarding recruiting.

the biggest one I remember about core classes was back in 2008 with 5 star WR Jonathan Baldwin. Imagine him, Floyd, and Tate all in the same receiving corps.

What was Randy Moss' situation? I recall he wanted to go to ND but couldn't get in. Same situation?

If I remember it right he had gotten into a fight at his high school and then was turned away because of it.

My recollection was that it was a number of "character issues" as opposed to any academic ones. Even FSU didn't take him if I'm remembering the story correctly.

This year is the exception, don't make it the rule. Alabama (according to rivals), had the #1, 1, 1, and 5 class in the last 4 years.

One solid year doesn't put you at a championship level. Ideally, you need a string of them.

Recruiting at ND takes on a life of its own when the program is doing well. Sustaining that is more important than anything right now. 2-3 straight years of BCS appearances and I guarantee ND will be top 3 every year.
