It's not like he was out of position or looked slow out there. His diagnosis of plays was ok, he had the speed to get in position, he just missed tackles.

It doesn't negate everything Manti did for us, and I will say that if we do eventually win a NC, it will be Manti's decision to attend ND that turned the corner.

Now, back to football: Look at the first TD. Alabama pulls their H back with the hope that Manti will be influenced and slow to react to the run up the middle. By the time he figures out its up the middle, he can only get an arm on Lacy. That may have stopped a Navy back, but not Lacy. It didn't help that Bama's line opened a hole a truck could run through, which allowed Lacy to run away from Manti in a huge gap.

Daniel Jeremiah, an analyst for NFL.com, just published an article on Te'o's draft stock post-NCG:

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. -- Manti Te'o had a rough outing in the BCS Championship Game on Monday night. There is no way to sugarcoat it. After 12 solid performances, Te'o and the Notre Dame defense were annihilated by a bigger, stronger and faster Alabama offense, as the Crimson Tide sprinted to a 42-14 win. On the game's opening possession, Alabama's offensive line took control of the game, pushing Te'o and his defensive mates right down the field.

Te'o wasn't the only Irish defender to be manhandled, but his reputation coming into the game made his poor play the focus of everyone's attention. He was routinely late to fill gaps. When he was able to engage a 'Bama lineman, he couldn't free himself to make a play. When he was unblocked, he missed several tackles, either by bouncing off or whiffing on the talented Crimson Tide running backs.

The world of Twitter exploded with negative comments about Te'o. Shoot, I personally contributed a handful myself. However, let's not get too carried away with one bad -- OK, horrible -- performance.

A few weeks ago, I wrote about Te'o's pro potential, comparing him to former Alabama linebacker DeMeco Ryans. I never put Te'o in the same class as players like Patrick Willis, Jerod Mayo and Jon Beason when they entered the draft.

I don't envision Te'o's stock tumbling quite as dramatically as one might expect after Monday night's poor play. Teams that run a 3-4 defense might be a little concerned about Te'o's inability to use his hands to get off blocks, but that's something that can be taught and improved upon. What this game might prove is that he is best suited to play in a 4-3 scheme, in which opposing offensive guards would be covered up and unable to get a clean run at him.

I'm still certain Te'o will be a first-round draft pick. He will excel during his interviews with individual teams, and his leadership abilities and intelligence will elevate his stock. Everyone has a bad game or two during their career; NFL teams won't overreact to the Monday night massacre.

Praying he falls to the Colts. Although O-Line is a huge need, the D was pretty bad this year. Would love Manti here in Indy.

I like Manti to the Steelers

Sorry for the derailment but Eddie Lacy and Tyler Eifert to the Packers in Rounds 1 and 2? Offense could be unstoppable when healthy.

I'm hoping the Steelers pick up Lacy in the 2nd. Either him or a rush linebacker

Manti had the "Heisman jinx"... Poor kid lived like a rock star for 2 weeks. This award stuff should be after the bowl games.

Anyways, I would be surprised if the Raiders pass on him with the 3rd pick. Oakland and Manti would be a good fit. He would play right away, and there are some vets on that D that would help him grow. They also run a 4-3.

I wish he would get drafted by the 49ers but with Willis, and Bowman signed to multi year deals there is no way he would see the field.

If Manti does fall in this draft look for teams like Dallas, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New York Giants, Chicago to pull the trigger. TEO will be a popular pick with fan bases nation wide.

Bruce Feldman asked a couple different pro scouts where they thought he would go and they all said between 15-25 FWIW.

A lot of rumors in NY that Giants GM Jerry Reese is enamored with Te'o (who isn't) and would try very hard to move to get him. Unfortunately for ND but fortunately for NYG, his play and subsequent public perception after the NCG should make this easier if Jerry were so inclined.

I don't want him going to Oakland. That team is a hot trash fire and they can't keep a coach for more than 2 years. He deserves much more than that

I like all of this. First as a Steelers fan. Second, adding Eifert and Lacy to the Pack's skill players could be downright scary.

Vikings will pick him no doubt, ND North. Wait for the combine and see where he is projected.

So, Manti turning down the Senior Bowl? Does this hurt his draft stock? Why do you think he turned it down?

A) what else does he need to prove. He has four years of starting, the most decorated single season, and projected first rounder.

B) as stated above, why risk injury?

C) It gives someone else a chance to shine, which I think is cool.

D) He had a long long season this year. Strapping up for another game might not be on top of his priority list.

Is it traditional for a guy expected to go in the first round to play in the senior bowl?

I think the senior bowl is mainly for the guys looking to improve their stock... Teo and Eifert project in the first round, so there is not much to improve before combine/interviews/pro-days, at least nothing that you should risk an on-field injury for.
