Jack Swarbrick should pull a Bod Diaco and show up 4:30 AM on the day of Kelly's interview and keep the interview from ever taking place.

I think someone's fondness for our DC just became a little more public

The only way I see BK leaving ND is if after the NC game, he thinks he can never win a NC at ND. I don't think that game discouraged him to that point.

I'll bet he signs an extension with ND by the end of the week.

Then why go to Philly, how many super bowls have they won?

Objectively, say if Kelly's interest in the Eagles is mutual. Why would the Eagles take him over candidates such as Lovie Smith, Bruce Arians, or Gus Bradley? All are NFL guys, and highly successful at that. Would you really want to hire a guy that has been in college his whole career and hasn't even been mentored by anybody in the NFL?

He is their agent as per his Wikippedia page:

Trace Armstrong - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

+1. This was speculated last night and a big part of my lack of panic. Agent leaks teh story to get himself more leverage so he can do a better job... happens literally dozens of times a year.

Not saying BK is definitely staying put or making any stupid guarantees like that but it was just pretty obvious where this all came from the moment "a source who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the Eagles haven't..." was used in the original article.

This has got to be such an interesting dance.

(Assuming that this is indeed all tactics for an extension,) you have to leak it in a way that is reasonably see through, and choose a team that has many other potential candidates... but not do it in such a way that it's obviously a ruse so you actually gain leverage.

It actually sounds like a lot of fun.

Provided Kelly does get a well earned compensation upgrade by "looking" at the NFL and stays at ND, I can think of at least one more positive by him doing so as well. Not only does it help the University be more grateful for what he was done (by showing him the money), but it also helps the ND fan base appreciate him more when the reality of him interviewing elsewhere smacks you in the face.

I just don't like the fact that this was done so close to early enrollee! What if those recruits decide not to enroll this weekend because of this and Kelly gets his extension? It is risky the longer this goes on just write him a check!

kelly said it was about the 'right time' and the 'right place' when asked about the NFL last week.

Considering NSD is right around the corner, I dont think now is the 'right time' and I dont think PHI is the 'right place' considering their roster and all the busts they signed a couple years ago.

This may be all for leverage, but what concerns me is that the ND administration allowed this to happen. They should have negotiated with BK as soon as the PHI interview came up; that doesnt make me feel any better about how ND negotiates with their coaches. It really concerns me that the will let Diaco go without making him an offer he cant refuse.

I would have thought that the ND administration would have learned over the last 15 years how imperative it is to have(and keep) the right coaches.

This is Notre Dame, these type of shenanigans shouldn't happen here.

This "interview" allegedly happened Tuesday morning (roughly 48 hours ago), after which Kelly promptly took his family on vacation. How was Swarbrick supposed to intercept BK in there for a formal meeting?

are you saying that BK did the 'interview' and Swarbrick knew nothing about it till after it happened? I think that scenario concerns me more...

I feel underappreciated, can you throw me something, nothing big, just an extra 50k? It would make me feel much better.

If this doesn't turn out to be unfortunate circumstances, I am going to believe my new friend John. He doesn't watch college football anymore because he says it is all about money and coaching personalities, none of whom have any integrity. If something actually happens here, I am in his camp.

I put interview in quotes because it's unclear how serious it really was. Could have been nothing more than a quick phone call, since BK's agent seems to have orchestrated this whole thing for leverage in negotiating with Swarbrick.

In other words, I'd bet Swarbrick learned of this "interview" through ESPN, just like the rest of us did.

I got a couple questions for those of you worried about this "out of country" vacation Kelly is on.

If you were going on vacation out of the country, wouldn't you take your family with you?

Since there is currently no scheduled break in classes, do you think Kelly would take his kids out of class to leave the country?

Something tells me he is in the good ole US of A drinking a Mai Tai, waiting for a call form his agent with the sound of Pink Floyd's Money playing in the background.

Whoa...

That's one hell of a gambit you're proposing!

It is not a gambit. I stopped watching NFL football because it was all about the money. No integrity whatsoever. Today? Read the report on Junior Seau's brain. They knew.

Two good men have had to shoot themselves in the chest. Through the heart. And they knew.

So I did the only thing I could. I rooted for the one sports team that I could see had their integrity in line, things in order, so to speak.

Now this. It ain't a brushfire, yet. But there is an awful lot of smoke . . .

Keep in mind the Eagles are interviewing 10 candidates, and have already interviewed Chip Kelly and O'Brien from PSU.

I completely understand and somewhat agree with what you're saying Bog. However, I happen to think that BK is worth top 5 money in this coaching market.

ND has to be the most taxing job of any of the programs, what with the boosters, media responsibilities, community responsibilities, nation wide recruiting, and unparalleled expectations.

Finding the right guy for that job is, as we have found, extremely difficult (close to impossible really.) Now that we have him, I just don't think we can make a grand statement of how coaches should be paid around the country and expect everyone else to fall in line.

The time to do that is when he actually leaves and we start this over again.

Can't lie, I hyped myself up being caught off guard despite deep down knowing its a leverage ploy. With that said, I think this will be positive for recruiting long term and very manageable short term.

BK can now say he interviewed and turned down the NFL. Kids will eat that up. Not all but a kid hearing that a top coach at a D1 program whose recruiting them was good enough for the NFL but he said no.

This is a good point I never thought of it like that. After reading a lot of these comments I feel more comfortable about him staying. Lets hope he gets a monster contract extensions and raise!

Regardless of what he says, what the recruits see is after 3 years he had enough jittery feet to seek an interview. Which translates to "He could leave at any point".

The timing of everything is just bad.

In the postgame press conference Monday night, Kelly was joking with Everett and asked him if he'd be back next year or if he was going to the NFL.

Oh the irony...

"Leaving Notre Dame is not an option"

This is the same guy that left his team, Cincy, high and dry.

Not suprised. He's done a great job here....but if he leaves, he's an a$$hole and I wish him total failure at the next level (especially since it's the Eagles, LOL)

This is the worst part. If any of you Kelly-homers don't think this casts doubt in recruits minds...you're crazy.

Expect a nice amount of decommits if he does leave.
