Heck of an arm. Strong and accurate, and he made a lot of perfect throws on the run. He didn't make many mistakes, especially for a freshman. He's going to be a good one for the next few years.

I hope Kiel is the real deal and challenges Golson. Golson bails a lot and sometimes makes plays with his feet, but he doesn't make teams pay in a big way when he gets single coverage. He under threw a lot of open receivers in the 1st half on throws that we needed badly to stay in the game.

Kiel was a national recruit. The spring should be interesting.

While you guys lose quite a bit on O, you get back a young QB, that did not play bad at all and has a bright future for ND. If you all can maintain your staff for a couple of years and keep up the recruiting, final fours will come.

Just wish they would've mentioned that Saban can recruit so easily because there is no academic standard there. Anyone gets in. ANYONE. We gotta turn guys away every year. Too Bad. Great Year, when does spring practice start...........TOMMOROW
Well said as those thoughts were running thru my head much of the 1st quarter. I laugh everytime I hear what a great teacher saban is. It actually makes me giggle. Obviously he couldnt teach at a higher level league-but I digress-the pros pounded the college boys pretty good tonight.

SMH, try to be cordial and you go back and quote from like three pages and find that.
We have quite a few guys that dont make it in every year.

Go to SI.com.

Article today mentions that ND's football players have, on average, SAT scores that are 400 points below the average student at ND.

Hell of a coincidence

I'm not sure what you are trying to get at, but I'll play your game. A quick search of academic profiles shows the average Alabama's student SAT scores are around 380 points below the average student at Notre Dame. So basically ND's players are on par with the general student body at Alabama. I couldn't find what Alabama's football players average score was, but I'm guessing it is a little (possibly a lot) lower than the rest of the student body. Would you say that's accurate or just a coincidence?

This is sour grapes to me. Alabama handed it to ND tonight. No question. Is the college football landscape uneven? Of course. People don't get drafted, they choose where to go. Some schools are easier academically or are located in a more appealing area. ND was in the National Championship Game and went undefeated. They are recruiting fine. Saban is a great coach and runs a good program at Bama, as far as I can see. No need to have sour grapes. Hats off. How great of a kid is Barrett Jones? Man up and take your hat off.

Well... a season's end that we didn't want. Tough to chew on, but it's reality. Deep in every fan's heart there must have been two forces battling all year: the dream that this team somehow would create strangely magical success despite its flaws, and the fear that the shoe must drop sooner or later. In the end both things happened. It's just that the last taste always sticks in ones mouth.

I'm old. This game probably meant less to me than to you guys. I didn't like the way it happened to play out, but with one exception, my thoughts about Notre Dame's football season are all positive.

The one exception to the positive feel is this: college football needed Notre Dame to win this game, or at least make it a ferocious battle. College football needed to see, finally, that it is possible to construct a top team without resorting to the abandonment of the college educational ideal. This demonstration is even needed by the country as a whole, as a moral upgrade from the "just win, baby" immorality of not only sports but business, politics, and "life". We let the country and college sports down a bit here at the end of the year, and that's a shame.

Everything else is a positive. We won twelve games. Let me repeat myself: we won twelve games. We won those games with good players, almost all of whom will return next season, and the others will go out into the world still being the fine men that they became here.

Next year we will win double-digit games again, maybe even all of them. The following year we will do the same. Some one of the years in these coming few, we will have the perfect storm and play for the championship again. By then we'll have a multidimensional offense and a defense that doesn't have to artificially protect fledgling defensive backs, and we just might win.

But we have turned the corner. This is no mediocre team, nor mediocre staff. This is a very good team with a terrific staff. Kelly made damm good chicken soup out of some good ingredients but some chicken sh!t situations as well. We had a redshirt freshman quarterback and three defensive backs none of which were d-backs before. Step back and meditate on that.

I plan on going forward to next spring and next fall liking our chances of winning 11 or 12 games in 2013 a lot. 2012=12-1. 2013=12-1. 2014=12-1. What the he!l do I have to complain about?

Ugggggh. Just got back to the hotel, and all I can say is we were there in full force tonight. A Bama fan told me after the game "it was our field tonight, but it certainly was your stadium. I've never seen us so outnumbered before."

Gotta keep our heads up. The gap is still bigger than we all thought, but things are moving up. I didn't meet a single Bama fan all weekend that wasn't a great example for their school, and hats off to them and their team that executed flawlessly.

Thanks for a great season Irish, and onward we march......

I like the direction our program is heading with recruiting, but Alabama's depth was really quite astonishing. On the biggest stage, the difference in athleticism showed itself. We seem to be narrowing the gap, but it still feels like we have a long way to go. Obviously, this distinction isn't the only reason we lost. We did not play our best football tonight (especially in the first quarter), our team is relatively young in key positions, and Alabama played like they were better prepared. Hats off to Alabama for playing like you've been there before.

Overall though, what a tremendous season! Thanks for making it even better, Irish Envy. I'm constantly humbled by the collective knowledge of and devotion to Notre Dame. You make the seasons that much better. Let's keep building on the positive in 2013, and there is plenty of positive to take from this year.

Even as Drunk as I am I would say this sober we will get back to the ship. This *** whooping we took is only gonna make next years team want to get there next year. They now know what it's gonna take to win the whole damn thing!! Go Irish!,

That's exactly what I thought.

This was the first time we came across elite talent. Now we know.

Whoa.

I've been around a long time.

This isn't the first time I've freaked out.

I'll tell you that much.

Like most, when i saw us down 14-0 and then get the bad call on the muffed punt and them go on to score another TD on just running and play action, I knew it was over. They took our own game to us. They chewed up the clock, they stuffed the run, they ran it north and south, and we could not tackle a wet paper bag. After a few hours ruminating last night and today, I still see we have a good future and hopefully we can continue to add more talent. Hope KLM heals quickly. Hard to replace a player like him.

As disappointed as I am about the game, 12-1 is a great year and I will take it anytime. Sucks to have to listen to all the SEC homers though.

One positive note: I did like that Kelly was "coaching " EG all game and not yelling. I figured he could have benched him and put in Rees but he did not. He kept EG out there for the experience. That is a plus.

Tired of hearing about the SEC. There are 3 teams in the SEC that win consistently. And not one of them could touch Alabama.

Did anyone get really pumped when ND stuffed Alabama on the first play of the game? I really thought that was going to happen all night. Boy I was wrong.

Driving back to Ohio now. Definitely overdid the tailgating but had a great time this weekend. Sucks real bad to lose.

Bright side is that I don't remember the first half so it was a 14 14 game for me!

EDSBS's Spencer Hall just published an entertaining and strangely comforting article about our first world problems.

Made me feel better.

Made me a little happier

6. You also had what is otherwise a great season, and took this machine to the very limits of its capabilities. An unranked team with a redshirt freshman quarterback and a difficult schedule went undefeated, beat all of its historical rivals, and made the national title game. On an individual level, Notre Dame also accomplished something equally astonishing: injecting a linebacker's name into the Heisman race, and paving the way for a defender to win the trophy sometime sooner than we all believed possible. Manti Te'o is a pioneer in that sense, albeit one that didn't make it all the way down the proverbial Oregon Trail.

I thought Kelly and the staff really **** the bed with the gameplan and play calling. We only run the ball 5 times i. the first half? Ridiculous. No misdirection, screens, swing passes, slants, toss sweeps, playaction, bootlegs, rollouts., designed qb runs. He had 45 days and he came up with that abortion last night? Way to have your guys ready for the moment and ready to fight as they were visibly in awe of the alabama players last night.
Also, I wonder if Diaco still thinks he has the best D line in college football?

We couldn't run against them. Our OL wasn't getting to the second level at all. It's much like the USC game from last year. Yeah, we abandoned the run, but we had dug ourselves a hole and since we couldn't run, there's no way in hell we were getting back into the game by doing it.
