Honestly, I'm completely bummed that Muhammad is most likely not going to be part of this class. Him and Redfield were the perfect two recruits, IMO, to close this thing out.

I think like Hollins' upside more than Prevot... because Hollins just seems to have such a freakish first step that if he develops power could have incredible upside. But I'd probably rather have LaRue if he qualifies more than either of them. I think that Randolph and Smith are such good prospects at OLB that adding another guy is almost redundant if it's not someone like AQM who has the frame to play in a DEish role.

Vanderdoes would just be epic on top of epic. Like I've said from the beginning, I think if we win the 'ship we got a shot. I said it was going to take a crazy confluence of fortunate circumstances for us to get in the race and have a shot... and almost all of them have somehow happened.

Agree with all of this. Great post.

I was thinking this earlier but afraid to say it. Part of me was even a little sad when I heard about Folston's commitment because I didn't want to let go of LaRue. I really like him as a pure slot receiver for us.

Not sure we can make a wrong choice here. Hollins is a Shembo clone, which I love. And I'm really intrigued by Prevot. Not just quick, but I love his toughness taking on blockers despite being a relative lightweight. He is pretty tall and broad ... after some time with Longo to add beef to that frame I think he could become a really fearsome CAT. I guess I'd say I like his upside slightly more than Hollins's, but it's close.

Of course Vanderdoes is the big one. Let's show him something on Monday night and see if anything happens.

I wouldn't hold your breath on LaRue. As long as we get Max, I'm super excited. Like GBDomer said, there isn't another class in the country that I would want over ours.

It sucks that we are guaranteed to miss out on some guys that are either elite or borderline elite. But at the same time, we are in such great position with so many of them that we are almost guaranteed 1 or 2 more of these elite or borderline elite guys. So there is really no need to stress out on who we give our final 2-3 spots to because they are almost for sure going to be at least a high 4:s:. Just my opinion though

One question about Larue, I've read that he didn't qualify for Southern Cal......if that's the case, how in the hell is he supposed to qualify for ND?? Or, am I missing something on him?

Your opinion is a wise one. Looking back over the last 5-10 years, I've been on edge this time of year. Not really because of post season (although this year I am), but because of recruiting. Not this year. Today when I got the Scout alert saying "new ND commit", I thought "meh, it's probably Folston, I'll check later". Meh... over a stud 4* top 10 RB.... My have things changed. As Mel says, it's good to be the king.... Knowing we will close with 2, 3, or 4 more studs is simply amazing. Part of me still expects some drama near NSD like days of old, but for the first time in many many years, my soul is at peace.

Wow just meh? I see what you are saying but damn, I'm stoked about Folston! I wasn't so sure until about the last week or so he was gonna come here. I was having a hectic day and got a text saying we got him! Turned my :( :)!!!

I know... Can't believe it myself. I think the meh is a product of:

1. "we're stacked and we're going to be pick up more studs, and were gong to be fine regardless"
2. I was assuming we were going to get Folston and Max, so already in the bag
3. I'm so high right now on this class, the only thing that would make me do backflips right now is picking up Eddie V.

I know, sounding like a spoiled little kid... shocked at myself in some ways. Now I know what USC fans felt like all those years getting stud after stud after stud.

Alright, party time over. Who's next? Eddie V, Hollins, LaRue? I still want LJ Moore. Something about him I like. EV is my first choice, followed by LJ and the other two in any order.

I think the coaches are going to hold tight until after EV and LaRue visit. If the visits go well, we may not hear anything until NSD. I don't see them taking Hollins right now unless they feel EV and LaRue are out of reach. If we strike out with EV and LaRue, I'd be very happy to close with Hollins and LJM.

With the limited spots available thought we could discuss what players you would like to take, that are viable options, that you think if we added could give us the no. 1 recruiting class by February. (assuming no defections of course)

Folston
Hunter
A. Muhammad
LJ Moore
Hooper

So i asked this on 8/27, only added two of the 5 guys I mentioned but we do currently have the #1 class according to a service or two.

GITF had a spot on response other than we both didn't have all that great of a guess on what additions would get us there and Bama is still rolling. I expect them to take it back eventually and could care less because our class is going to be sick regardless.

Adding those recruits would not give us the #1 class by February. To get the #1 class we would need defections from USC, an average finish from Bama, and I think the following additions:

Alexander
Willis
Treadwell
A. Muhammed
Folston

Got to thinking-- if ND doesn't get AQM (or even EV), would anybody's feelings be hurt if ND shut it down and didn't get another commit for '13?

I think AQM and EV are both guys to sign no matter what. Prevot, Hollins, Larue are all good players, but I'm not sure that they're kids you can't pass up or must get. Calabrese could come back and the staff would end up with an extra 1 or 2 scholarships for next year's class if the staff shut it down now. A big part of me thinks Okwara will end up as a Cat anyway (Spond, Councell, and Smith at Dog), making the depth there Shembo, Williams, Okwara?, Randolph? And aren't there a couple guys kind of in ILB/OLB limbo like Rabassa? Plus add in a guy or 2 in next year's class.

Discuss.

Amen.

I say we sit it down and bring back Carlo and Dan.

Good call.

That's my stance.

I don't think that Prevot, Hollins or Larue are guys that you pass up, but I won't be disappointed if we don't get them either.

also read somewhere that the staff for 2014 is looking more at difference makers irregardless of position and filling depth needs per se...so, next year, (and especially if we win monday) could really be a recuruting ride for the ages as the staff locks in on what will probabaly be every dang 5 star out there.

Absolutely, as amazing as this class is next year the momentum should keep us rolling! This staff has us where we need to be and this should be a great ride for the next decade!

I would still definitely want to add at least one guy. Hollins, Prevot, LJ Moore, LaRue, Hutchings, etc. are all guys I think you try to take if you have a spot.

Jamoris Slaughter calls sixth year return "likely" after his red shirt freshman year due to a meniscus injury in the Under Armour Game.

Would definitely change some things in the numbers game.
