ESPN 150 safety McQuay to visit USC
LOS ANGELES -- It didn't take long for the USC coaching staff to zero in on four-star safety Leon McQuay III (Seffner, Fla./Armwood) following the decommitment of four-star athlete Max Redfield (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) on Sunday night.

McQuay has scheduled his official visit to USC for the weekend of Dec. 7, he said in a text message Monday afternoon. He is set to take an official trip to Michigan this weekend and has already visited Vanderbilt (Oct. 12) and Oregon (Oct. 26).

Mike Farrell has an article at SI.com about how some recruits are taking visits that a puzzling. In a blurb at the end, he mentions how McQuay 111 is now leaning towards Vandy. Would much rather see him at Vandy than USC.

In a perfect world he goes to Vandy or Oregon and we get Redfield. However, if Leon does end up at USC, I see very little chance that Redfield does as well. So they get Leon we get Redfield wouldn't be all that bad.

I think this is more about music education/contacts than football. Seems pretty musically gifted and they have an excellent music production school.

Not sure why so many dog USC for academics, its a great school. I dont care for their coaches character but USC as a school is a fine instution and offers excellent academics as well.

They will continue to get great players but how they develope (or lack their of) will determine their fate on the field.

Academics played a major part in his recruitment- per his dad. Funny.

Not a huge fan of any of there football programs but he was considering USC, UM, and Vandy (don't know what is final top group was) at one point as well as ND. Not to shabby.

Was hoping he would pick FSU but knew it was a long shot. He is a very talented musician as well which factored into his decision.

You guys missed scUM's point. Yes, USC has great academics. So does Michigan and UNC. But that means little to the football players that get pushed into Kinesiology, have tutors do their homework, or are not challenged in the least. It was a blanket statement about schools claiming their academics are fantastic, but have huge discrepancies between academics for athletes and non-athletes. No need to jump down his throat and pile on guys.

Anyway, in this case it makes sense for McQuay to go to USC. He'll have excellent resources for what he wants to do in life (sans football).

Stand corrected. Sorry.

Sam Webb who writes for Michigan had a sneaky suspesion that Michigan was more of a player than many assumed. Dude was right also many believed there were some problems with his EE papers.

He got approved for UM late last night apparently. The only one he didn't get in to was Vandy.

Reps Rack Em for the salient point.

For a moment I thought the board was going to break out in a group sing of Kumbaya with a Fight On chorus. Matt Leinhart got 3 credits for that course.
