Supposing for a minute that AQM doesn't come to ND, I'm not so sure getting Hollins or Prevot is a must. People are speculating AQM will be a Cat here. Williams has 2 more years left, Okwara could probably be a very fine Cat, and people are speculating Randolph will be a Cat. Others are saying he'll be a DE. If true, then I believe Vanderdoes becomes much more valuable (even though I believe he should already be number 1 on our wish list right now anyway) to ND, not necessarily another Cat prospect.

In other words, I think a Cat is luxury, but DL are a necessity.

This is why I like Prevot as an AQM backup plan. Sapp has said that the staff's plan for AQM is to use him as a CAT early and then gradually bulk him up into a DE. I think the same plan would work for Prevot ... he could grow into a DE a la KLM. Hollins looks relatively filled out, so I don't think he could play bigger than CAT.

Twitter: Mid West Recruiting - I don't think he is an insider just his POVs and some repeated info.

Still think ND lands Muhammad. The grade issue would be the reason why if he doesn't sign with ND, but don't buy it.

It is way, way too oversimplified to say that a 4-3 DE = 3-4 OLB. First of all, every defense is a little different and so there isn't always a 1:1 comparison, but there are some generalities that you can apply. Second of all (and in general), there are two 4-3 DE positions, which have different roles and responsibilities, and there are two 3-4 OLB positions, which also have different roles and responsibilities. It is true that weak side 4-3 DEs are thought to be the "swing guys," meaning that if they were on a 3-4 team they'd likely play the rush linebacker role. But you can't just say that a 4-3 DE = 3-4 OLB, because a strong side 4-3 DE is certainly not the same thing as a 3-4 drop linebacker. A strong side DE in a 4-3 is also a DE in a 3-4, and a drop LB in a 3-4 is used primarily in coverage most of the time.

And lastly, not even all weak side 4-3 DEs can just easily transition to the 3-4 rush linebacker role. Some guys are natural with the switch, like Willie McGinest. DeMarcus Ware is another perfect example of a 4-3 DE moving to 3-4 rush LB. Others, like Dwight Freeney and Mario Williams aren't natural fits in a 3-4 scheme. Williams tried in Houston, and it was such a success that he went to Buffalo to get back into a 4-3 system. Freeney will also find a 4-3 team to play for next year, as his transition to 3-4 rush LB has only been slightly better than a disaster. I'd put Strahan in the same category as Williams and Freeney. I don't think we know nearly enough about AQM to say where he will be physically and skill set-wise when he is more fully developed as a player, and I know that was the original point here. But I think a lot of what you said (in a pretty condescending manner) isn't even totally true.

Yep. And not to mention, Rhode, those words from that poster have been brought up throughout the life of this thread. Unless Ricochet is AQM, Brian Kelly, or maybe Bob Diaco, I'll reserve judgement on where AQM will play for ND until they comment on it. I know Sapp and others have said he may initially be an OLB, but the staff sees him as a future DE.

Bottom line is I don't really think any of us on IE really cares where AQM would play at ND, as long as he's a good player.

The interview he did with Rivals just sounded so pro ND. He even said he knows where he is going.

Yeah, it sounded that way, from what people said. Didn't he also say how he'd love to play with Shumate again, too?

Peruse the last couple pages. AQM still has unresolved academic issues which currently prevent him from being accepted. It's unlikely that he's going to commit to a school that he can't get into at the moment.

Edit: I'm not a subscriber, so I have no idea what the article says. The tweet confirms that AQM will announce at the Army game, which is bad news for us.

He knows where he's going, hasn't told anyone including any of the schools. Had nice things to say about each of his top schools. Said he wishes he could play with Elijah, which he will have the chance to do. Also said he may take a visit or two after announcing.

U.S. ARMY BOWL EAST TOP PERFORMERS:

One of the smallest guys but one of the strongest and most physical, explosive off the snap with a great 1st step. Showed he can play in space.

IMO if he goes through with his decision to decide it will be ND.

I agree. I think he assumes that whatever is holding his application up at ND will be resolved by the end of the week and he will be able to commit to ND this weekend. I am a little nervous like everybody but on the whole I still feel good about this one.

I hope you all are right. Mods on 2 sites say that if he commits at the game, then it won't be for ND.

Does anyone know if this is a missing elective type of issue or is this more of an issue that he is struggling in HS and ND needs to see improvement before accepting?

We could really use an "all is well" about now. I've been tense all along because he has never taken an official visit. I saw that he plans to take a few visits after he announces which also tells us something.

I have no knowledge of the AQM situation. But ALL IS WELL. This staff has a plan A and a plan B (and C). I'm not sure if he will end of a member of this class or not, but ND will have a top five recruiting class regardless. Do we want to get him, sure. But having AQM not qualify academically doesn't kill us by any means. With or without AQM, ND will compete for national championships in the upcoming years.

The staff knows the exact situation and is working through it. I'm sure the Tee situation last year was a major learning experience for the staff and administration.

Let's just look back at the last couple of years (and I'll miss a few examples) under BK. All is well even when we lost Tee, Greenberry, the Armsteads, Darby, Perkins, Prestwood, Chris Martin, some guy named Aaron, Matt James (RIP). All is well this year having lost Mattingly and James. All will be well if AQM can't join.

Some kids will want to join, but be unable to academically. Some kids will decide ND isn't for them. Some kids won't want to deal with the new found positional depth. But this staff identifies those kids who can come to ND and compete. And, the staff can COACH THEM UP.

With that said......I can't give any TP level of assurances.

Happy New Year!

It's been reported that he will talk to ND coaches on Saturday before announcing. Possible outcomes are:

1) Talks to coaches, gets a green light, announces for ND
2) Talks to coaches, gets a red light, announces for Miami
3) Talks to coaches, gets a red light, postpones announcement

I think it's a pretty even shot between all three. I've personally been betting on something like #3 for awhile. We'll see what happens. Would LOVE for him to be part of the class but if it doesn't happen there are still a number of other top tier prospects we could close with.

If he indeed is planning on taking a few visits after announcing, that would suggest an ND verbal to me on Saturday. First off, he still needs to visit ND. But also, if there are lingering admissions concerns, the other visits would be due to the potential need for backup plans.

Max will be Irish...

Im from East Los Angeles, CA (condom country) A buddy of mine is a huge sc fan and rumblings say Max is All Irish and is recruiting Eddie V. to join the Irish Mob. Come Friday we will land "The Carpenter" and if we don't get AQM on saturday. Look for Eddie V. to jump ship which is a road block in his decision. Eddie is seeing how shady lame Kiffin is and knows he is plan b now since they are going hard after Robinson...

Every time something happens that might not be positive for ND, TP's fanboys turn to him for comfort like children running to their parents room because they're scared of a f'n thunderstorm. AQM is either going to commit or not commit to ND whether TP says anything or not. I like having him on this board and I appreciate his input and insight but damn, get off his junk.
