Good grief that is a hell of a long time away and I really hope they increase the episodes per season if possible. Good thing I'm into True Blood and Boardwalk to keep me busy. All this talk about The Wire makes me want to give it try and see how it is.

Yes but they ahve the biggest cast and budget in TV right now, so they can't make more episodes or risk drastically increasing the budget. I think the conclusion of the series is almost impossible. It just costs so much to do properly, which is why GRRM didn't want it made into a movie.

Yeah if they did a movie of it it would put Lord of the Rings to shame...it would be like combining every Batman movie ever made.

the Tyrion Lannister character is the all time best role for a midget that i can think of...save for the oompa loompas in wonka and the lollypop kids in wizard of oz.

that martin better make sure he finishes all those books...he is no spring chicken and if he dies before finishing the series it will be a nightmare for all his fans.
pressure from publisher is really on. the irony is that he is so involved with the HBO series last couple years (scripts) it has prevented him from finishing up all the damn books.

He has taken between 5 and 6 years for each of the last three to come out. He is involved with just about everything, including other series he writes, visiting every comicon he can to hock his wares, and marketing the crap out of all the money-making extras...like the Longclaw replica the nerds bought on Big Bang Theory.

Austin Powers' mini-me was pretty significant.

Okay, if you've read all five books and are having a problem like an addict in a crackhouse, I've made a thread to discuss all the stuff from the books for those of us who want to. Do not enter it if you haven't read all five books or don't want to figure all the stuff out that GRRM has hinted at.

I don't want to give anything away if you haven't read the books. Lets just say it seems like everytime I really like a character, they are about to get $h!t on.

Isn't that kind of the point of the series? If your a good person, horrible things are going to happen to you.

No, he just isn't conforming to the standard fantasy where good triumphs over evil. He kills mother****ers with impunity.

Can someone answer a question for me please?

***Possible Spoilers below***
My question is, what caused the Starks and Lannisters to dislike each other immensely? The BluRay extras hinted that the chasm between the two factions occurred during the original war between Robert Baratheon and the Mad King (Roberts Rebellion). From what I gathered, Eddard Stark a man of honor, witnessed Tywin Lannister butchering the Targaryen family and this caused him to hate/dislike/distrust the Lannisters. Is this true or is there something else?

There is no character in this who hasn't had something bad happen. Some worse than others, obviously.

I'll give my two cents in the other thread to avoid spoiling anything for people.

People tell me that it's LOTR with less magic and more boobs. I'm okay with that being the case.

Someone gave me the DVD box-set for Christmas, and that's exactly what it is. :)

If you can sit-down and pay close attention for the first two episodes, it's a really good show. Not quite Mad Men or Breaking Bad, but close. But again, you really have to invest yourself in the first episodes -- there are about 10 major characters, and still I don't know the names of 5 of them...

The books are even better, even if you have to sit through Mereen.

It is funny how some crucial, crucial back-story will be glossed-over, but then they always make sure to mention that the bald guy is a eunuch in every scene he's in...

The investment is well worth it. Great acting, fantastic character depth, great story. The only thing I didn't like about S1 is the subtraction of one of the major players. It did make for a make for a good surprise, so can't complain too much. Not saying who/when/why for those who haven't seen it. Anyway, IMO, better the LOTR (film not book).

All of my favorite characters seem to get the ax, my buddy who's read the books says it only gets worse.

OMG were those chapters in a ADwD boring or what?

The most frustrating thing about the books to me is how long I'm going to hypothetically wait to read the final 2 because apparently GRRM writes at a snail's pace... and how the story now seems to have gotten so big that it's going to take another 4000 pages or so to even have a chance of finishing it well.

At first I loved the unpredictability of main characters and good guys dying... but now it seems like he's gone way too far in the wrong direction. Way too many "fake death" cliffhangers. It's getting annoying. And most of the central POV characters currently featured I either dislike or find boring. Basically only rooting for Littlefinger and Tyrion at this point.

unless his publisher starts cracking the whip Martin will be dead before he completes all the books. at least 2 more to go and each book takes him about 6 years to finish and hes 65 now (i think)

His publisher has tried to crack the whip and given up. I wonder if he even likes writing any more.

Anorther Robert Jordan/Wheel of Time could happen.

RIP RJ, Sanderson has done a great job imo. I'm pumped for the last book, got it preordered.

Ive been reading this series since I was in 7th grade (13years ago), WoT is the reason I don't start series that are not finished.
