Yes, I was not trying to argue for Urban over Kelly, I was merely pointing out that there are others who are also deserving. Perhaps not as deserving as BK, but we shouldn't consider it a slam dunk.

Sure. But, I'd really think they were wrong.

Seriously.

Paul Rhodes and Dan Mullen are top contenders. If I were in charge of filling the Auburn gig, I would hire Rhodes......

You think Paul Rhodes should be higher then BK in Coach of the Year voting?

No. Not even close.

I would pay money to see every Auburn die-hard's face though if they announced Paul Rhodes as the next head coach at Auburn.

Rick Reilly has an article on ESPN today why O'Brien is COY.

I would put a link to it, but then you might read it.

Rick Reilly < the peanuts in elephant Sh!t.

still a little red assed about the helmet thing...and now he's campaigning against Manti and BK...

Like I said before...I hope his helmet rub translates to recruits...somehow I doubt it.

Honestly... first team ever to go unranked to #1. Devastating injuries in secondary overcome by first time players converted from offense. Over-performed expectations more than any other team in CFB.

Oh, and he graduates players at the #1 rate. HOW IS THIS EVEN A DEBATE!?!

The haters still won't give Kelly any credit. A number of my friends from college are all in the ND Nation crowd and they just keep saying that Diaco deserves all the credit for our success this year. Obviously we all love Diaco, and of course he deserves his share of the credit, but come on.

Rhodes isn't going anywhere (I hope). He grew up 20-25 miles from ISU. It's a pretty cool story.

As Lax mentioned, PSU was expected to win 7 games this year. O'Brien won 8. Outperforming expectations by 1 win, especially with how weak the B1G was this year, does not qualify O'Brien for CotY.

I'm not sure who expected PSU to win 7 games at the beginning of the year. I thought they might win 4 or 5. O'Brien did an amazing job navigating through some pretty hefty distractions to have an 8-4 season. I personally think BK should win the award, but I wouldn't be upset if O'Brien won it.

Thanks for saving me the finger energy. Whenever somebody says "the amazing job O'Brien did at PSU" I wish someone would press them on exactly what was amazing about it. There are probably 40+ teams out there that out performed their expected win total by 1 game or more.

Going from unranked to #1 is amazing... that has never been done before. Going from projected 7 wins to 8 is borderline routine.

Firstly, I think Kelly earned it. Secondly the job O'Brien did was nothing short of a miracle with all the kids who left, regardless of first string or second string. If you don't have depth, its just as hard to win as if you had marginal first stringers. Kudos to him,.
