Which is why I don't believe the sanctions were stiff enough. To make penalties a legitimate deterrent, sanctions should set a program back for a period of time and effectively make the program radioactive to prospective recruits. Obviously, that hasn't worked in this case. It appears that they got off lightly if they can continue to recruit like this without skipping a beat. What's the point of handing down sanctions if it really doesn't do anything? Just my two cents.

Well the bowl ban has already passed...USC can play for bowls and NCs now. They will have reduced numbers..(what the sanctions were intended for) but the quality of their players will be incredible.

Kids just grew up in the age of USC being awesome..that and it's in talent rich Cali

This. Look no further than Nelson Agholor for a perfect example. Kid grew up in Florida but was a USC fan his entire life. Kids being recruited watched the ridiculous teams of the 00's, so once they get recruited by USC it's hard to beat them.

Not to mention Laney Kiffy has some damn good recruiters on his staff.

Sour grapes bro. They got hit pretty hard with sanctions. Kids just don't seem to care. Also a supply and demand thing. Very few open spots so they can sell a kid on how much they want/need them and how they're the #1 target at that position if they're willing to give them 1 of 15 spots. That definitely makes a difference in these kids minds (Ty Isaac, Agholor). Plus, there is so much talent in Cali that Kiffin doesn't even need to sell SC. It sells itself...and it sucks for us, UCLA, Cal and everyone else.

Not really. I feel the same way about Ohio State. What's the point of sanctions if they don't really have much effect? Penalties should take a toll on a renegade program.

Full disclosure: having grown up an ND fan in southern California in the 1970s and early 1980s, I loathe southern cal.

Sorry GB.

the loss of schollies will end up hurting. They'll lose on quality depth once it kicks in (probably a few years after once those classes are upper classmen). Any injury will have an added effect, same with recruiting busts, in season troubles, etc. Furthermore, with less competing for each position there'll be less of a push in practice to get better.

Let's not coronate them future national champs just yet.

Schollies will not impact USC like it would most teams. Their average star rating (I know, I know, not the end all) is to high year after year. Bottom line, they are a team that truly reloads. The only thing that would have a significant impact is an extended period of no post season play. Kids will keep coming if they are sold the dream that in 2 years,,,,,

Anyway, sucks, but true. I've stopped beating myself up about it long ago. The only thing we can do, is get better, and start winning the right way. That's the only cure. USC will almost always be THAT team.

Hurting USC doesn't mean destroying the program. It means knocking them down a notch. Which is still a better position than ND...

All three of things are only a matter of time away. Kitten is a snake and he is bound to rub off on his players. Injuries will happen, so will busts, and a guy who cannot be trusted as a coach nor as a recruiter is bound to pick some rotten apples. When the time comes Kitten will be leaving USC like he did Tenn. NCAA investigations and sanctions will likely follow.

Agree 100%. Hurting a team like USC though, takes a little stronger punch than most other schools.

I'm less optimistic, or should I say less pessimistic.. LOL. I think the Kitten/USC match, is a match made in hell, and will last a while unless Kitten gets another shot at the NFL. Which is very possible should he lead USC to glory in the midst of santions. I think the AD is watching closely, so Kitten is on his toes. This is unfortunate as I believe he'd dig a deep hole if nobody was watching. Anyway, not crowning them yet, but the fact and data points to a team on the rise despite sanctions. IMHO, a severe injury bug is the only thing that could impact them. Most good teams are 4 deep with 2.5-3.5 average talent. USC may be only 3 deep in the coming years, but will have 3.5-4.0+ talent. As Bruce H. says, "that's just the way it is".

You wrote it, but I've been thinking it. I think it will be difficult for Kiffen and Orgeron to suddenly become college football's paragons of ethics and integrity. Not saying he is, but would anybody be truly shocked to learn that Kiffen is still engaged in violating NCAA rules? I certainly wouldn't be.

Get off USC's nuts. I'll believe Kiffen can win something when I see it happen. So far he has been through a number of stops and has won as many big games as I have.

In a few years I'd like to see a shirt incorporating his name and the SNL Celebrity Jeopardy skit where Connory makes the Cravin More Head joke...

Alex Trebek: Sean Connery, the drummer for the Beatles.

Sean Connery: Craven Morehead.

Alex Trebek: Who is Craven Morehead?

Sean Connery: Apparently, you are.
