I just don't see UVA and particularly UNC leaving the ACC. I know several UNC guys that are pretty connected and they aren't hearing anything.

We'll see.

I don't get the purpose of it. There's no need for the four 16 team superconference model now that the 4 team playoff is happening (and locked in for the next 12 years). All expansion does now is water down your brand (ESPECIALLY for the B1G now). NC and VA don't add any meaningful media markets.

Its kind of funny how some people are already calling for the demise of the ACC, particularly some fans from the B1G. I'm sure it very well could happen with these recent movements, but it's funny to think that just a few years ago the ACC was considered a very strong conference after the last big realignment and the B1G was considered in a weaker position on a whole. My, how the tables turn.

If we end up getting forced out of all forms of independence in football, I'm not worried. I've got a good feeling Swarbrick will do what is best for the university and the football program. Needless to say, I have a good feeling that any conference we would pursue would take us. It seems arrogant to say that, but despite any hurt feelings between the Irish and the B1G after standing them up in the 90s, the fact remains you can't say no to the almighty dollar. Ultimately I hope that the ACC remains strong because it benefits us better from a recruiting standpoint and strengthening our position outside of the Midwest.

so what is it 5 teams about to leave the ACC"?
FWIW...take those 5 teams exit fees how much does that leave the remaining acc members? and also hte guys leaving the big east.
not a bad payday to merge the big east and acc hoop schools form a ridiculous basketball conference.

duke, gtown, nova etc in same hoops league with a mountain of cash to play with from the get go.

I'd say there's a better chance the A-10 and Big East basketball schools merge, but a lot of that is wishful thinking.

Before we all get too carried away: This is something posted yesterday on a message board. In more than 24 hours it hasn't been picked up/confirmed by a single actual college football writer with a name, at least that I've seen.
Yes, these things can happen quickly, like with Maryland and Rutgers, but there's also often more smoke than fire.

And you likely never will. It's become evident that you're main objective here is to bait people. No one is biting. You ask a question, you get an answer, and you come off as naive and drippy like you don't know what's going on with your response. Give it a rest. So typical of SEC honk...

UVA has absolutely no draw. If you want to tap into Virginia/DC markets you get Virginia Tech... and with already adding Maryland that doesn't even make much sense. The only way this would even be a possibility is if the Big Ten was trying their damndest to destroy the ACC to force Notre Dame's hand.

I think destroying the ACC is completely implausible, FWIW. They'll just snap up schools like Louisville to replace crappy schools like Maryland, etc.

No that is your objective that's why you follow me around. If I post something that is not in a recruiting thread you are the first to comment.

See his avatar? Jorts and a mullet.

HCTI is clearly a closet Gator fan. As in... your closet. Right now.

Conference-USA 2.0!

I don't think I have to say how awesome it would be for us if Navy joined the ACC. That would free up a spot for a non-ACC game.

They should lose their auto-qualifier if this is their conference to schedule from.
