I would love it too. The meeting of the two most storied programs in CFB.I would LOVE to play you guys in a NC game. Its been a long time since we have met on the field. Would be an awesome game. Media would love it!!!
Welcome. There were some great games played between ND and Alabama with a lot on the line. The two bowl games could have gone either way.
The media would eat up a UA/ND match. Best storyline among the top 4 contenders.
Unfortunately ND has to run the table but still needs KSU and Ore to lose. Even if ND beat USC As badly as in '66, 51-0 (which isn't going to happen), the polls aren't voting ND over Ore or KSU.

This! One game at a time!
Huge blowout victory in Ireland to start the season. Purdue is next, but attention really starts to turn to the next week's game in Spartan Stadium against the #10 team in the country. The Irish struggle with Purdue and need a last-minute drive to win by a FG.
Huge blowout victory in Chicago to get to 5-0. The hype train is really starting to roll now. The game of the season -- in Norman against OU -- is two weeks away. Everyone is talking about it. Very few are concerned with 4-4 BYU, who just got rolled at home by Oregon State. "Their offense sucks, it will be a shutout," was the general consensus. The Irish play their worst half of the season (to date) and need a dominating second-half performance to squeak by, 17-14.
The Irish go into Norman and -- against all prognostications -- physically beat up the Sooners. "11-0 heading into the Coliseum! Will we get into the BCSNCG????" dominates the post-game discussion. Everyone assumes we will destroy Pitt, BC and Wake. Well, we all saw what happened Saturday.

Welcome. Are Bama fans at all concerned about the passing defense after Mettenberger threw for almost 300?

Of course not. But if you think the players on the team live in a bubble and don't hear what's going on around campus and in the fanbase as a whole, you are delusional. And you really, truly believe that we fans looking ahead caused this?
Lol that article is funny. Some people just don't watch football. I'll take Bama straight up any day of the week. ND matches up just fine against them. We have a better front 7 than any they have faced all season. Our 4th string QB was recruited to start at LSU this past season, yet that lackluster passing game was able to throw pretty well on Bama. Heck even Denard threw some bombs over their coverage and put up 200 passing yards.
Watching Bama LSU this past weekend I know for a fact that ND could play either of those teams for the NC and walk away with the victory! Let's make it happen, BCS
I agree, especially with the bolded part. Bama is coming off an emotional victory (their QB was crying in victory) and the odds of a down game for them are huge. Plus A&M might be the best offense they see all year (since SEC offenses are generally average at best). I like the match up and I like the timing.
Much rather play either of them than Oregon.
Having lived down in Alabama for 30 years the one thing I have learned is Alabama fans hate Notre Dame with a passion and I always let them know that we have beat there beloved Tide 6 of the 7 times we have played and have beat the twice for the National title
Yet they still claim at least one of those as a national championship.
Oh, so you don't believe in split national championships because the BCS says it just can't be and you believe that rules of today, in college football, apply to times past?I did want to correct you for the record. We did beat them in the 73 Sugar Bowl and the 75 Orange Bowl. We did beat them for the National Title in the Sugar Bowl but not the Orange Bowl. Coincidentally, they also claim the UPI Coaches poll Championship for 73 because the UPI Coaches poll did not vote after the bowl games the last vote they had Alabama as #1 at the end of the regular season. Alabama shamelessly, actually counts that as one of their NC's.
They played in Bowl games in back to back seasons. The Sugar Bowl used to be played on New Year's Eve years ago. I think they switched to Jan 1 in the Mid 70's.

Hey, what do you think of ties in college football? I, for one, sure am glad we have overtime now so that games don't end in ties. Some teams liked ties and even played for them.
1977: The Irish went into New Year's Day ranked No. 5 and Alabama was ranked No. 3. Both won their bowls by significant margins - Notre Dame 38-10 over No. 1 Texas and Alabama 35-6 over No. 9 Ohio State - but the Irish leaped over the Tide.
Y'all maintain that ND deserved the crown because Texas was ranked No. 1. But Notre Dame lost that year to Ole Miss, which went 5-6 and lost 34-13 to Alabama. The Tide's loss came to 9-3 Nebraska on the same day Notre Dame lost to Mississippi.
That would never happen today. The championship belonged to Alabama, just like the '66 one did. That's two three-peats for the Tide if things were as they should be.

If/when we beat SC I want a vbook for the number of y'alls we will hear over the next 6 weeks. I am betting the over and I don't care what you set the line at.
Seriously, how f*cking stupid are you? Do they teach rational thinking in the South?
The reason was because of Notre Dame's body of work being more impressive... that's the same thing that would happen today if people were still voting on stuff... hence why Alabama is ranked ahead of Florida this year despite Florida playing a MUCH tougher SOS and having many better wins and also having a better loss. But Florida has struggled on offense recently and not had style points and Alabama has looked more impressive... so Alabama sits #2.
In 1977, Notre Dame beat USC 49-19... Alabama beat USC 21-20. In 1977, Notre Dame wouped the #1 undefeated team with the Heisman trophy winner Earl Campbell to close out the year... Alabama beat a 2 loss team... and they both won with comparable margin of victory. Nore Dame also owned wins over #7 Pittsburgh, #15 Clemson... Alabama had NO OTHER WINS OVER ANY RANKED TEAMS.
To point out one data point... a singular loss to Ole Miss... and ignore everything else is beyond ridiculous. It's certifiably stupid... or just really biased. Notre Dame was handily voted #1 and earned it by their far superior body of work over the course of the year.
