Manti Te'o for Heisman

I apparently misread your post. You made it sound like Maziel's got the better Heisman claim, and Te'o is only in the discussion because of those factors.

I know, no worries. I meant that those intangibles might push him over the top. Remember, these voters are human. You can't NOT root for Manti Teo. He still deserves it, but he needs all of the help (story, character, etc) that he can considering he's on defense.

It helps Manti's case that Johnny Manziel is a freshman. Many voters will likely think "this kid had 3 more years to earn this." Putting my green Kool-aid aside (hard to do) I think Manti is legitimately the Heisman front-runner. His team is undefeated and unlike other contenders, Manti has not had a really off game (e.g. you can't put together a low-light reel of him missing big tackles or blowing pass coverage). Manti just needs one highlight making play in an Irish win over USC to seal the deal IMO.

I think him being a freshman is the biggest thing. I don't believe they give it to johnny this year.

Pick six.

If we win, Manti wins.

That's pretty much a lock at this point. There's really one hell of an Irish wave sweeping the nation right now, not many are giving us a shot in the big one, but they like the idea of us being there, and everyone seems to love Manti.

Plus, I think there will be a backlash against the 'Johnny Football' moniker seeing as he's a freshman... I know that's kind of petty, but it's a real distinction when pitted against someone like Manti.

Not according the the poll at ESPN. Here's the results so far:

Not according the the poll at ESPN.

Have you ever read the comments under an article on ESPN? Not sure why a small sample size of those mouth-breathers is held up as meaningful of anything.

I try to avoid that site, just like I try to avoid their network.

A guy at work showed it to me. Just thought it was interesting.

The comments section in an average ESPN article aren't too far off from the average Stormfront thread.

Scary.

I wasn't criticizing your posting it here. Those types of polls get posted all the time over on reddit.com/r/cfb, and some people tout them as objective truth. A quick glance at the comment section of any ESPN CFB article tells you all you need to know about the demographic they're polling.

We still have something to prove to the nation so I don't mind all the fool-chatter out there by people who have no meaning to the games at all. We need to beat USC. Tough task, but we know we can do it, maybe even control it. Then Manti will win.

The flapdoodle fools will not yet shut up just because we're 12-0 and in the title game though. We have to win that too, to create the combination of Holy Silence and the Hollow Carping of Brainless Jackanapes. The Holy Silence will be the respect finally paid to Kelly, Manti, and the Team by everyone in football who in fact IS a football person and not a media buffoon or worse. The Braying of the Jackanapes will be greeted with derisive laughter thereafter.

Mostly this will happen with "only" an SC whipping and an NC slugfest even with a close loss, but ... lets not leave anything left to do --- there's a lot of magic in this team.

how big is this usc game?

win it, and were going to the national championship...and manti (depending how does) just may win the heisman if he gets a pick 6 or some game changing play.

its almost all too much to contemplate and consider.

Heisman Vote

Everyone needs to keep voting on a daily basis. The vote is getting close and the fan opinion actually counts for a vote

I don't agree with this at all. I live down here in the southeast and let's just say the "fan's opinion" down here isn't exactly...educated. They'll vote for "Johnny Football cuz he done beat 'Bama in Tuscaloosa!" It's nice that we know about this so we can vote for Manti but I disagree with the principle that the (supposedly) most prestigious award in CFB, perhaps all of sports, should be influenced by fan opinion which is often fickle and uneducated.

I have no problem with Manziel being up for it, he is a tremendous football player, but Manti Te'o is the best player in college football. Sure his stats may not be quite the best, and maybe he doesn't fill up a high light reel but his importance transcends his stats and highlight packages. He's our leader on and off the field and he's an inspiration to the team and the University. People who meet Manti Te'o come away better people afterwards. Te'o is a program altering player and he is perhaps THE cornerstone in the resurgence of Notre Dame.

Que? If it's a factor in the outcome.............................wouldn't one take it upon themselves to impact said vote? ;)

Haha I am...but I don't agree with the principle of popular voting in the Heisman race. Don't get me wrong, I'll vote for Manti everyday because the option is there.
