there is a tweet going around that apparently in HS, Troy Niklas intercepted Wittek and returned it 26 yds for a TD

Kurt Warner was on the SVP show today and talked about backup QBs coming into play. He was geared more towards Jason Campbell and Collin K but its a solid listen. Makes a lot of sense when talking about a backup QB and how difficult it really is no matter who it is.

HUGE Kurt Warner fan...not only bcause he finally got my Rams their Super Bowl, but a great guy and proved with AZ (after the Giants) that he wasn't just a one trick pony....got his bobble head in my house!

PS I started loving the Rams back in LA days with a QB by the name of Roman Gabriel and defenders like (pre-Hunter) Fred Dryer

My biggest concern going against USC is having one of our players get injured on some wreckless-late hit BS that USC seems to do. I've watched 3 of their games, and their defense specifically looks for the 'highlight' hit (this partially explains why they can't tackle). I could see this getting chippy. USC has nothing to lose, gameday will be there, they can knock ND out of NC game, I just don't want them to do something stupid. If they do, they have nothing to lose but 15 yards. It could mean everything for us.

They won't be able to run on us. Diaco will, as usual, give up the underneath routes in exchange for big play prevention (and Lee will probably produce some very good YAC, just like OU's Jalen Saunders did against us). But Wittek is going to have to throw quickly and accurately to keep drives going that way, all while Shembo, Tuitt, KLM and Nix are bearing down upon him. I wouldn't be surprised to see our defense produce a TD or two as a result.

I think you are right about what the defensive gameplan will be ... as you say, it'll be similar to the OU game.

And man, I would love to see a defensive TD. It would be particularly great to see Jackson or Russell or Farley jump a route and take a pick to the house. All year people have been calling those guys the weakness in our D, and all year they've exceeded expectations.

How about a (first ever) pick-6 for Manti to ice the Heisman? He's only a handful of votes behind Johnny Football.

I truly believe that this saturday night is going to be the Manti Teo Show. He seems to feed on this sort of situation.

I do too. I know it sounds crazy for a linebacker to win the Heisman, but considering the fact that it is a LB at Notre Dame with a great story... is that crazier than a freshman QB from Texas A&M?

I think not. If he has a big game at USC, he might be in the driver's seat.

crazy...

I found it funny that at the end of the wake game during the "ICON" video.. Te'o was talking about dumping the gatorade on kelly and eifert is like "the seasons not over, we have one more game" and Te'o looks at him and goes "oh yea I know.. we're gonna kill em" awesome..

And it would help if Manziel **** the bed ala Collin Klein last weekend.

I'm glad its SC. There's no way this team comes in overconfident or looking ahead. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Stanford exposed SC by beating Oregon

Stanford exposed SC by beating Oregon

Oregon hung 50 points on SC, Stanford corralled the Ducks. We should be able to do the same no matter the QB.

I disagree with whoever said he's less mobile than Barkley. Barkley's really slow.

Oregon just got beat by Stanford's back-up QB.(worth noting) Let's not get to over-excited. Lee & Woods could have 300 yards receiving with Lane throwing passes to them if we are not prepared. JUST WIN
Hogan is not a back up. He won the job away from Nunes. Dude is going to be a thorn in our side the next few years.

Also, who gives a **** about playing "full-strength" USC? They are cheaters, so they deserve to play with handicaps. Injuries happen. Would BYU have felt bad about beating us with Rees in the game? Yeah, right.

If Notre Dame wins Saturday, no one will give a flying fart who played quarterback for a four-/five-loss USC team. If the Irish are to complete the undefeated regular season, 10000% of attention will turn to the NCG. And after that, any looking back on this season will be about that game, or some of the dramatic wins during the season. Think back to 2010 in the Coliseum. We didn't care then and we still don't now that Mitch Mustain (former #1 QB recruit) played that game. Neither Barkley nor Mustain were going to tackle Robert Hughes that night!

Football is a team sport. Football is a sport where injuries occur at a frequent rate. Football is a sport where winning is king. So let's win the ****ing game and then go bring that crystal ball home to where it belongs.

GO IRISH GO!

good vid....I'd say if Wittik hasn't changed his tendencies (and you'd think he would over 2 years of DI coaching)...

1) he does NOT like to throw to the left, and his delivery is more labored and takes more time... I might try and bait 'em into throwing a wide side out to the left if the opportunity comes up.

2) he does not like to shuffle laterally much, looked to me like he brings the ball down unless he can just slide forward in the pocket. I tcould bug him a bunch if the rush keeps nudging him one side or the other...

3) does not look like he is all that elusive / nor can he extend plays

The good:

1) He can Roll and throw...I expect to see alot of that since it cuts the field in half for him.

2) He will take a hit to deliver the ball

3) He looked PLENTY accurate in the highlight film (which you'd expect)...

I'm aware. But he was still the definition of a back-up. Either way you're still right in the end. Football when it comes to injuries is not a matter of if its when. GO IRISH

The key to this game, and a big reason the Irish win is our scheme and front 7. We do not allow the big play, and it is highly unlikely that a QB making his first start will have the patience to take what the defense gives him and know when to live to fight another down. At some point frustration or impatience will set in, a read will go wrong, or he will try and force something. We have stifled just about every QB we have faced this year...4 year starters, NFL prospects, mobile QBs and drop back passers alike. We have athletes on the outside at corner and a scheme with experienced players that help compensate and cover weaknesses. I am not worried about this game in the least...USC may get up and play their best football of the year, but so will we and top to bottom we are a better team..we control the line of scrimmage, get after QBs, open holes in the running game and have become an excellent tackling team. We turn the ball over less than 2 times and we win this one by 10+.

Hopefully he spends some quality time with Tuitt and Shembo Saturday so they can become friends...

... If you catch my drift.
