This is something that was mentioned before, but it bears repeating. RBs in the NFL have very short careers. Being a mid round pick could also mean that he ends up on a decent team.

Coming back doesn't automatically make him a better prospect and I believe that he will already have his degree. With the new CBA, players are making their big paycheck on their second contract, not their first.

I will miss him, but I can't blame him for wanting to pursue his dream in the NFL. He doesn't owe Notre Dame anything. He is a great player and person. I will wish him well and root for him as an NFL player.

I think his combine results and draft stock will play a role in his decision. I think he'll do just fine in both, though. I do know one thing, if he does come back...watch out CFB!

I saw cierre's dad in the stands saturday and he had a custom made airbrushed shirt that I am almost positive that said "Wood 2013" on the back. Take it for what it's worth. I realize he may not graduate until May 2013 but I am hoping for the best.

I want him back at ND for selfish reasons. If he has his degree, then I can understand either way. I would be hard pressed to pass up the money as well.

You could ask both Manti and Efiert the same question and get a different answer!!!

Coming back for your degree vs. coming back for a 5th year aren't the same thing. IMO, you can justify potential injury or damage to draft stock with a degree to one of the greatest universities in the world. For a 5th year with degree already in hand? Not so easy.

Cierre was not announced during senior day, fwiw.

I was at the game, he was indeed announced. The broadcast of the game only caught the last 6 or 7 players, Cierre was announced earlier.

Notre Dame junior RB Cierre Wood announced through social media that Saturday was his final home game at Notre Dame Stadium.
This likely means Wood plans on leaving for the NFL after this season. Head coach Brian Kelly is very good at keeping his top players, convincing them to finish all four years of eligibility rather than leave early, but Wood will have already graduated prior to April's draft. He is certainly a name to keep in mind and Wood will find a place in the log jam among the the top running back prospects.

1. Like I have stated in previous posts it truly doesnt make sense for him to comeback. RBs are different that any other position in the NFL...you only have so many carries in you. he is a fresh, he hasnt been a back that has had to get 300 carries and just tear his body apart all year. As frustrating it is that he hasnt gotten the bulk of the carries this year, it will be a blessing to him in 5 years. Cierre, Jonas have the qualities to be very good RBs in the league if they keep their work ethic. Cwood works as hard as anyone and it shows on saturdays.

2. He already will have that degree. Like someone previous stated, there is a difference in coming back to get a degree and coming back for a 5th. ND sets you up to get a degree in 3 1/2 -4 years. that is why the graduation rate is so great. its a wonderful thing and it truly shows that the kids buys into it. Cierre will have his degree and like we all say "he is set for life". but you make that Nfl money on your 2nd and 3rd contracts not your first.

3. Cierre does infact a little girl, and yeah he will make less money on his first contract if he comes out this year, but at the sametime if he tears an acl then he is making less. He does have to take into account he does have a family and he has a chance to provide.

4. Cierre isnt going to test good at the combine this year or next year. He isnt going to run a blazing 40, blow them away with his athleticism, or become a beast on the weights. The kid is a definition of a football player. He has speed to break it, vision to get to holes and cut, agility to make you miss, hands to be able to play every down, blocking is plenty good enough for the league, and he doesnt have wear and tear on him.

5. The other day there was something that happened that did make me double take that he may comeback. Im by no means saying he is staying, bc I think he should go, but it just caused me to think that he may not be as gone as we all think.

But its been fun watching him grow up and play the game over the last 3 years. Kid has provided many moments that have pushed ND over the top. The runs to seal USC, the miami run, purdue last year, the msu stiff arm, oklahoma, and then last week. Kid will do just fine in the league.

Is he graduating early?

Three posts up, #2
In short, yes he will have it.

Cierre won't be graduating "early". All ND football players are scheduled to finish their classes during the fall semester of senior year so they can train for the combine if necessary.

Or were you asking about the friend who's taking over the lease?

Are you certain this means he is gone? Maybe he just didn't want to be stuck with the lease if he goes, but he has a backup plan in South Bend if he decides to stay.

Just asking because he just told the Observer last week that he isn't sure what he'll do yet and it depends on what he hears from the league. But maybe he has made up his mind since then. Curious what you know.

Yep, they take classes each summer, so that makes it possible to graduate in the middle of the 4th year fairly comfortably.

Uhh he lives with Theo, Stockton, and another senior that is graduating. Pretty sure he is going to have to move out anyways.

You're right, that could be the situation but it seems unlikely. I don't know the reason for him finding someone to take over the lease, but I do know he has done that and am inferring that that means he is done with school after this semester because he is heading to the draft.

$#!+. Really wish he would stay. He could really be the go-to next year, and I think his draft stock would improve significantly if he stayed one more year. I'm sure no expert, but don't see him going till the 3rd or 4th round.

As if Cierre needed any more motivation to dominate in the next two games...he's running for draft stock! I can't wait to see what he's got in store...

This might not be a popular thought, but I think he would make a huge mistake by leaving early. He is a mid-round draft pick and could raise that dramatically next season with a productive year as the primary back. Not only don't his stats indicate a high round pick, but the fact that Kelly didn't use him as THE feature back might send a message to the league that he has something holding him back. He did spend half of the season in the Kelly dog house and NFL GMs will definately have questions about that.

Assuming he cant participate in the Senior Bowl, since he athletically, is technically a redshirt junior, can he participate in the East-West Shrine Bowl? Or is that senior only too?

I too think if he wants to cash in on the draft he can only make money by staying... he'd have to figure to be the feature guy next year and I believe he has a very high ceiling... but you never know.
