Stanford's Chances of Winning Out

I am trying not to get my hopes up too much but I really think Stanford can run the table. I think if Stanford runs the table we would be either #1 or #2 at the end of the year depending on how bad the SEC dismantles each other. Right now Stanford stands at #14 in the BCS. They have Oregon State at home. Oregon has the #3 rush offense in the country vs. Stanford has the #2 rush defense in the country behind Alabama. If they win out they would be a top 10 team that Notre has a win against. I like Stanford’s defense and running game against their remaining schedule. I just became a huge Stanford fan the rest of the year!

Sat, Nov 3 @Colorado

Sat, Nov 10 #11 Oregon State

Sat, Nov 17 @#4 Oregon

Sat, Nov 24 @ UCLA

Stanford has not been able to hang with Oregon for four quarters the last couple of years because of the sheer speed the Ducks have. I am hesitant to believe they can do it this year either.

yeah stanford couldnt beat oregon with andrew luck, i dont think they win that game either.

i think usc has a real chance at winning this week though, people are counting them out, but if anyone has shown they can beat the ducks its the trojans. this week may just clear the picture up altogether. all top 4 teams have a chance to lose, us the least, but nevertheless still a chance.

#1 or #2 in the country? I hope you mean #1 or #2 in the PAC12...

Oregon needs to lose to someone, they have a very tough finish to their schedule with USC this week, Stanford in three and Oregon State in four. Then they have to play the Pac12 championship game. Most likely they have FOUR top 20 teams to beat in one month. That is tough for anyone.

Alabama has LSU and TA&M the next two weeks followed by some weak sauce leading up to the SEC Championship against a Top 10 team TBD. Three Top 20 teams, two of which in the Top 10 will show us if they can be beat.

K-State has the easiest path with OK St and Texas barely in the Top 25 and no title game to threaten a tough match-up.

I am close to predicting a Notre Dame/K-State championship game. Both have the cleanest paths to undefeated at this point. If either Bama OR Oregon go undefeated I wonder who is chosen for the title game b/w ND and KSU.

If all four go undefeated, it gets real interesting. I don't know how the bowls line up but I suspect #3 and #4 don't automatically match up since bowls take turns picking next in line. The real tragedy is if #3 and #4 play different opponents to leave the possibility of 3 undefeated teams. Cluster.

This is exactly how I feel. No one can predict who will lose to who, but we can look at who has the easiest path to win out, that would be Notre Dame and KSU. This also might be wishful thinking on my part as well. I think we would crush KSU.

KSU is definitely the team out out of the top four that I prefer to play. LSU would be my top choice out of the top five, I think we would hold them scoreless.

If LSU were to beat Bama, they'd still have to beat UGA in the SEC Championship. While I think they can beat Bama in Death Valley (they could beat anybody down there, IMO), I'm not sure they could beat UGA in Atlanta.

I am actually really looking forward to seeing Oregon v. USC game this weekend, assuming of course USC plays to their potential. Thus far they have looked absolutely invinsible and I don't know if it is because they are that good or that the teams they have played are crap. They did beat Arizona who is very hot and cold 49-0. Yes the team that just won the shootout with USC lost to Oregon 49-0.

I could see Oregon St dropping to Arizona St and Stanford the next two weeks hopefully dropping them out of the top 25 when Oregon plays them hurting their SoS.

The part that hurts us is that Stanford will be ranked higher when Oregon plays/beats them than when we beat them, and I guarantee that everyone in the media spins it in a way that it makes Oregon's win over Stanford look way better than our.

They didn't have much problem with it last year. Granted, that was last year, but I doubt LSU would worry about playing Georgia there.

LSU's offense has been in perpetual woe. The biggest difference between the '11 and '12 LSU squad has been that they haven't been getting the special teams plays to score/set their offense up and they haven't been getting the big defensive plays to score/set their offense up.

Well if they beat them by more than two TD's (which I think they will) it will absolutely look more impressive. The media won't have to spin anything.

We need:

LSU to beat Alabama, then LSU drop another game.
USC to beat Oregon.
Kansas State lose to anyone.
Notre Dame win out.

We'd be in the title game, likely against Alabama assuming they win the SEC title game.

I could see them winning by 2 plus touchdowns and it still not being that much/if at all more impressive than our win. If Oregon beats Stanford 45-27 or something like that its a 3 TD win, but that means they gave up 27 points to a team that couldn't score an offensive TD against us.

I will say I think Oregon's looked better so far, but they haven't played anyone. They got credit for beating 2 ranked opponents who are currently 2-3 and 0-5 in PAC12 play.

I just don't understand how if both teams are 12-0 we don't get in over a team that played: Colorado, Arkansas St, Fresno St, Tennessee Tech, and Washington.

I agree with you, but it sounds a lot like what all the experts were saying about Oklahoma's speed against Notre Dame. Anything can happen. To me, Stanford and ND's squads are very similar and have equal capabilities (as proven by their OT game).

GO TREE!!!!!! Win out!

Never say never.

I want 'Bama to win over LSU to knock LSU off completely.

I would prefer USC over Oregon.

I would like K-State to trip up over anybody for obvious reasons.

I would like a 'Bama/ND title game.

It's because they have the human votes. Coaches Poll and Harris Poll make up 2/3 of the formula. Computer rankings don't carry enough weight to drop them out.

But, I'm going to be honest, they look legit. If anybody could score on us, it would be them.

I guess I am just saying I am a huge Stanford fan the rest of the year. They need to finish strong for us to jump Kansas State even if we win out. I just do not see Bama getting beat this year and Kansas State's schedule is weak. Sure fire way to blow up the BCS is ND to finish undefeated and not get into the national championship!!!

I would love to see them beat Oregon, but I don't think they have a chance. Let's hope for a miracle.

UO's defense has been decimated by injury, and Stanford has by far the best front-seven the Ducks will see all season. If any team can slow down their ground game, it's the Cardinal.

this thread is giving me hope that oregon goes down. I'd be so happy if we had that and a KSU loss (just for the hell of it), leaving the SEC to throw their best at ND. Oh please, oh please.

As an insider, I know you can't give away too much info, but can you at least tell me which week this is going to happen so I can free up some game watching time?
