Some more stats. I know they have been hashed over repeatedly, but I enjoy them.

I have a dilemma. My girlfriend won tickets to the Nebraska vs Michigan game this weekend and wants me to go with her? Obviously with the impending game this weekend with Oklahoma the decision seems simple to me, which is not to go and stay in to watch ND. What am I to do?

Dude you can watch TV any day of the week. I understand it is our beloved Irish but go to the game!

No idea how you could enjoy the game you are at with the Irish simultaneously playing their most important game in almost 20 years.

Of course, if you stay home we will probably get rolled up and the game will be over by half time.

My high school has a huge football game Saturday night so I'll have to miss most of the ND game. I'm upset to say the least.

Give her my screen name ... I have meds and THE med to ease her headaches.

Migraines are just a state of mind.

This?

From dshans?

I never would have expected this from you, Dick.

I'de get drunk, watch ND and pass out on her coach in the nude covered in green jello.

Would that be on her horse drawn coach, her coach seat on on Amtrak's "City of New Orleans" or in a coach class seat on a cross country flight from NY to L.A.?

Yeah, I can't think of very many scenarios that would keep me from watching this game.

Notre Dame would seem to have the perfect advantage to counteract the Oklahoma offensive attack: A great defense and a stable of multifaceted RB's. If ND can just hold Oklahoma to relatively modest success, then they should seemingly be able to chew up the clock with running the ball and the occasional Golson designed run or bootleg.

Here's to hoping that Te'o, Nix, Tuitt, and Co. can get to Jones early and often! Go Irish!

A little something from ITI

He may not be a terror in the box score, but Prince Shembo is a scary dude on the field.

One of the great stories on the season is the work Prince Shembo has done taking over for Darius Fleming at the ‘Cat’ linebacker position. The junior, who played out of position last year, has been a pass-rushing terror off the edge, while playing stout run defense for a guy many were worried was undersized for the position.
Shembo’s stats might not reflect his work on the field, with his 3.0 sacks modest compared to his impact on the game. But the North Carolina native’s relentless passion, whether it’s screaming about his stolen bike seat or swinging a sledgehammer on the sidelines, embodies the passion, but workmanlike attitude this Irish defense is all about.
“Just do your assignment,” Shembo said this week. “If people try to do things they’ve never done before, that’s when the problems start. Just have confidence and do your job.”

That job will include dealing with Oklahoma’s jumbo quarterback package, anchored by the “Belldozer” sophomore quarterback Blake Bell. Shockingly, Bell doesn’t seem to worry Shembo too much.
“He’s a big guy. 6-6, 260. I squat 600. So we’re just going to go put our pads on and meet him in the hole,” Shembo said this week.

Todd McShay lays out the title chase

so according to this guy, if OU wins, they are back in the race for the title. If ND loses, we are out of it. and if ND wins, all we do is strengthen our wildcard argument at bit. Seems a little bit skewed toward buttraping us.

Classic ESPN. Meanwhile last night on espn radio, Linda Cohn and Jonathan Coachman talking about how the Irish need to win to show they are for real, haven't proven anything yet. Suddenly Coachman says about upcoming schedule "they have USC and Stanford still ahead, so we'll see how they do". Cohn asks "where is the Stanford game this year, Coachman "I think it's in South Bend, I"ll have to look it up". Yeah, that makes them real authorities on whether or not they are a good team. Have a F***ing clue if you are going to do a show with discussion about top teams. Epic Failure ESPN.

That's the newer upper deck. It's nice over there as far as bathroom and concessions lines go. You'll be exposed to most wind and you'll be the last one out of the sun, but it'll be cool/cold anyway, so i think you're good to go my man.

Added benefit - you won't be able to hear the OU band all that well from there. Which is good, since they'll play after every score... :)

So they're only playing once on Saturday?

Sadly, you can often get more insightful and accurate analysis from the messageboards than you can from the Worldwide Leader.

Did anyone watch Coach Kelly's presser from Thursday? He said one thing that was particularly interesting. He was asked about the difference between the offenses he fielded at Cincy and CMU versus the current ND offense. He said that at Cincy and CMU, one of his jobs was to sell tickets. They needed to be exciting to put people in the stands. Attendance is not an issue at ND, therefore he cares only about winning. The best way to win is with defense and running the ball. Therefore, it appears ND will never have that air raid type offense dropping half-a-hunnert every Saturday. I think Coach wants this team to look alot more like Saban's team than the other Kelly's team from Nike U. And I am perfectly fine with that.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. I bought her Nebraska vs Wisconsin tickets for her birthday, which was planned because of Notre Dames bye week. It was a great game to go to, and Nebraska has a great atmosphere. Her being a Nebraska Alum, she is obviously a fan. I told her to see if anyone else wants to go with her, and if not I will go. I guess if anything it will show how much she wants me there, ha!

It depends on how serious your relationship is and if she's reasonable. If you might catch some heat about not going with her, go to the game, record the Irish and do your best to avoid finding out the score until you can watch it.

That aint gonna happen. They will probably announce it at some point during the game or show it on the score board.

Kelly quickly learned that to play at the big boys level all the time you have to have a top quality D to start.

I'm not so sure the offense won't eventually morph into something closer to his Cincy teams offense. Give him time to get all of the right players (he's very close) and teach his system to the QB's. Remember this is EG's first year starting and learning. If our QB had 2 or 3 years under thier belt I wouldn't be surprised to see the O open up more.

No reason you can't have it both ways. Just gotta recruit.

As a Vikings and Braves fan I envy you sir.

My best sports year was 1973. The Irish win the NC in football and had their best year ever in basketball 26-3 (included ending UCLA's 88 game win streak).

I won a lot of bets from a couple of fellow workers who hated ND. LOL
