Notre Dame Recruiting Insider
In this week's edition of Tunnel Vision, BlueandGold.com provides you with who is at the top of Notre Dame's wish list along with recruiting nuggets on junior and senior targets. Here's a sample.
Malik McDowell: The Top25 blue-chip junior out of Detroit (Mich.) Loyola is not a lock for Michigan. The Wolverines may not even be the leader. Notre Dame has made a serious impression on McDowell, his parents and his coach early in the recruiting process, and look for the Irish to remain one of the favorites until McDowell decides.
Michigan will for sure present competition and McDowell also wants to visits schools such as Alabama and LSU, but Notre Dame is in great shape. McDowell and his family are high on ND's academics, especially how successful African Americans perform.
McDowell enjoyed watching Irish defensive end Stephon Tuitt in person during the Michigan State game in East Lansing. Notre Dame assistant coach Chuck Martin and the rest of the staff have made a good impression on Loyola head coach John Callahan. McDowell's recruitment will be one Notre Dame fans will want to pay attention to.
Alex Anzalone: What would Tunnel Vision be without the weekly note on this Irish pledge? BlueandGold.com can confirm that the Top50 player did talk with Notre Dame this week and still likes the Irish, but the program isn't out of the woods just yet.
He still has some things to consider as Florida made quite the impression when he was in Gainesville for the LSU game, and Notre Dame is looking to firm up a trip back to campus for the Wake Forest game, which he still can't say with 100-percent certainty that he'll make it for. He does want to take his official visit for the football banquet at Notre Dame in December, which he would be absolutely surrounded by Irish commits, but he's also mentioned going back to Florida in December, which he reportedly submitted early enrollee papers to, and it will be making a final decision pretty tight on time.
One Irish commit told BlueandGold.com "I don't even know about him anymore" in regards to what the next move will or won't be, but Notre Dame is keeping the other linebacker targets on the board that have expressed an interest in wanting to visit (for example Victor Egu of De La Salle (Calif.)) just in case any sudden changes are made with time left to spare for National Signing Day if Anzalone was to report to Florida's campus instead for the spring semester.
