Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I think Byrd is gonna be the best of the bunch but Moore is a stud as well!

just looked it up for 2013 they have offered Moore Byrd & Johnson Jr in 2014 they have an offer out for Quick. 4 D1 DB's prospects from the same high school is insane. Immokalee has 3 maybe 4 as well.

That's stacked to say the least! Does Florida look out west very often? I know you guys landed Powell 2 years ago but other than that I don't hear a lot of California kids heading there.

Urban did some they have a few offers out in the 2014 class its hard to get a kid to go all the way across country and not worth the time unless they show interest and are an elite prospect. They went after Stringfellow (Powells's high school) & Owusu (coach knew the family) this year. So there is usually some kind of connection.

It will be interesting to see as "ND moves to the ACC" if they leave Cali and focus more on the east coast.

I really doubt ND would leave Cali. Cancelling the Michigan series allowed us to keep Stanford and USC on the schedule and assured playing a game in Cali every year. Obviously those are important rivalries for ND, but also the idea of keeping a foot in Cali if very important for recruiting. I believe Swarbrick made it pretty clear.

Good stuff Gator, yeah I think the Carolina's and Virginia are in for a healthy dose of Kelly's crew visiting high schools but I do think that Cali will always be on our radar as it has been pretty good to us. If we can start a few winning streaks vs Stanford and SC it could only help.

The top 20 players in North Carolina are typically very good.

We have a few guys already from there in Shembo, Moore, Councell, and Okwara among others so that's a start. Then you got Golson and Brown from South Carolina as well.

I would agree, I think there are a lot of diamonds in the rough in NC. Some kids like shembo and okwara come to mind that weren't very heavily recruited but will be very good players.

Shembo was highly recruited. FSU wanted him bad.

Okawara is probably a better example. FWIW scout had shembo listed a 3 start and rivals had him as the number 238 player in the country. So varying opinions and no site lists an offer from FSU.

@GregBiggins: OU commit Hatari Byrd will be the only Central/Fresno player visiting Sooners this weekend, L.J. Moore/Johnny Johnson going diff direction

Reeeally ... consistent with the ND-or-UCLA theory on Moore.

I think it just means that he's not considering OU. I guess that's good, but we already knew that it basically comes down to ND and UCLA.

could he perhaps be scheduling an official visit to Cal since he didn't have one scheduled?? He had officials to all the other schools on his top 6 before canceling Oklahoma.

The way I see it is that it's the distance for the visit, not where to attend school.

What in the world is UCLA selling here? Yes they are 5-2 but it's not a very impressive 5-2. They lost to a good Oregon St. team and got blown out by a bad Cal team.

Also, a Notre Dame degree is a million times better than a UCLA degree.

There are some things I just don't understand about recruiting

In regards to LJ, UCLA is selling a hefty side of close to home with a sprinkle of parental approval.

A UCLA degree isn't something to sneeze at. I'm not sure how well their student athlete program is, but all of the UC schools are pretty great. Although, I believe Davis and Berkley are still a little higher rated.

I'm sure our California members would agree with that assessment.

UCLA is an incredible school. UCLA and Cal are the best UC's, followed by UCSD then UCI, UCD, and UCSB (in various orders depending on year). UCLA is an outrageously good school. IMO ND is only slightly better academically than UCLA and Cal. Not taking anything away from ND but UCLA and Cal are THAT good.

School - Acceptance Rate - SAT interquartile - GPA
ND - 24% - 1340-1520 - 3.69 (average transfer [regular not reported])
Cal - 21% - 1230-1490 - 3.88
UCLA - 26% - 1180-1420 - 3.88

This is obviously purely objective information to back up my claim that ND is indeed better but UCLA and Cal are also right up there. ND definitely has a special name recognition that goes along with it. However, Cal (especially in academia) carries great weight.

All 3 are tremendous. From a student/athlete perspective, ND's graduation rates speak for themselves.

From an ROI perspective, ND wins. However, don't forget that Cal and UCLA have MUCH larger student populations which is going to dilute the pool.
