It's pretty sad. His voice is so shot.

He's gross. He looks like and old, burn-out version of Jerry Springer. And he sounds like an old, burn-out version of Ozzy Osbourne (yes, the Ozzy adjectives me be a tad redundant).

What follows is a brief comparison of how Stanford compares to ND via advanced metrics:

FEI

ND
Overall - 3
Offense - 34
Defense - 5

Stanford
Overall - 26
Offense - 57
Defense - 34

Significant disparity between our programs on both offense and defense. Note that FEI has been remarkably accurate in predicting CFB games this season.

S&P

Stanford Offense
Overall - 35
Rushing - 39
Passing - 31
Standard Downs - 41
Passing Downs - 33

Notre Dame Defense
Overall - 7
Rushing - 8
Passing - 8
Standard Downs - 8
Passing Downs - 5

Notre Dame Offense
Overall - 26
Rushing - 11
Passing - 43
Standard Downs - 8
Passing Downs - 34

Stanford Defense
Overall - 11
Rushing - 21
Passing - 7
Standard Downs - 15
Passing Downs- 12

The stats indicate that we'll have significantly more success moving the ball, especially on the ground, than Stanford will. If the game plays out that way, ND should win comfortably.

I wonder what the metrics look like for the Michigan games in 2009-2011? Mr. Pessimistic - I know.

Metrics are one thing, but you just know that Stanford is going to be coming out with guns blazing. IMO, ND has only had the best game from only one opponent-Purdue.

Not saying what anyone else hasn't been, but this will be a tough game.

Denard Robinson defies metrics. Stanford doesn't have anyone like that.

Manti will be playing in front of his parents on Saturday... we are not losing this game.

Yea, that was my thought after seeing how excited he was in the press conference talking about it. I mean he wasn't jumping around, but you could just feel it. He is going to be lights out and bring everyone else along on the ride.

We don't run at the same tempo as Oregon-though I think that's Kelly's goal- but Golson's ability to run opens up a lot of things to neutralize Stanford's speed on defense. Their linebackers have to be aware of it, which makes them hesitate. I hope Golson's debut running against Miami is the beginning of more to come.

Agreed. Stanford is most dangerous when their LBs can get really aggressive with stunts and blitzes; which is why they always seem to struggle against spread teams (Oregon always, Arizona last week, etc.).

The threat of option plays from Golson and our ability to attack the edges with swing passes should prevent their LBs from getting too aggressive while allowing our offense to sustain drives.

The one thing we know about this Stanford team - The CARDboard

"Like Duke, Washington stacked the line daring Stanford to pass. Unlike Duke, Washington had the secondary to make Stanford pay. The team netted 65 yards rushing and 170 yards passing. It converted only 28 percent of its third downs. "

Some interesting snipits:

After five games, there is one thing we know about this Stanford team and that is that we don’t know much about this Stanford team.

Vs. San Jose-converted 2 of 13 first downs after first two drives.

Vs. Duke-only averaged 3.5 yards per carry and Nunes completed just 54% of his passes against a loaded box.

Vs. USC-While mostly dominating the Trojans and raking up 417 yards of O they only entered the redzone 3 times, converted on only 36 percent of their third downs, and Nunes completed only 47 percent of his passes.

Vs. Washington- converted only 28 percent of its third downs. Nunes completed only 49 percent of his passes for a paltry 4.6 yards per attempt.

Vs. Arizona- Offense finally showed up to play but the defense conceded six touchdowns and two field goals.

The writer goes on to say that in the 'Zona game it actually showed more about Arizona than it did about Stanford. Specifically that 'Zona has a very poor defense.

As many have said all week: Stop the run, force 3rd and longs, take away TE's.

I better see a "Catholics vs Conifers" sign on Gameday!

This. It's truly a brilliant slogan.

When Notre Dame starts to play Virginia in the ACC rotation, I expect to see "Catholics vs Confederates" too.

Better bring my poncho....ugh but I'll still be excited.

I remember how much i hated Crocs, but for the Michigan game in the rain in 2008 my shoes were so soaked i bought a pair of ND crocs and just sloshed around everywhere in them. The team drilled scUM that day and it was glorious. I'm hoping for a similar outcome.

Montgomery is still doubtful I see. I'm assuming RB #33 is ready to go although he was banged up last week. Is CB #6 back? He's good and was injured last week.

Has anyone noticed how all the pundits are saying that this is going to be a smash mouth low-scoring game? I just read that the Cardinal defense 'couldn't be happier' to get into a slugfest this weekend as that would suit what they like to do.

Why in the world wouldn't we spread the field out as far as we can and dink and dunk it all the way down, throwing it down the seam to Eifert/DD long every once and a while? This seems to be exactly what Stanford doesn't want us to do because it is what they're weakest at.

I just don't understand why so many, including a number on this board, want to play their style of game and attempt to smash it with the run all game long.

by guess would be because we have found the most success in the 2 and 3 TE sets ourselves.

but i do agree with you. spread it out.

i still dont know how good their secondary is.

Guy thing. I agree with you though. Weather may dictate the game.
