Like a damn pyramid built on all the prior games... This is the biggest game of the Kelly Era. No question.

Not sure whether to be excited for gameday or annoyed because I have to wake up earlier to make a fool of myself on national television cheering...

Anyone watch the game against Arizona? How the hell did they put up so many points?

I watched it. A bunch of deep passes to guys who weren't covered and then Nunes pounded it in at the goal line. They are a very well-rounded offense, but their D was really bad as well. I think we are the better team but Russell and Jackson will need to step up.

Didn't watch but the QB threw it almost 70 times I think. (If your talking about Arizona)

Looks like Nunes did well for Stanford

It was a track meet. Basketball on grass. Last team with the ball won.

AZ ran over 100 plays, SU almost 80. Both teams had over 600 yds of Total O. SU added another 100+ yds on kick returns.

Nunes had his best game throwing, running, and making decisions. He hit the 6'-8" Toilolo for 145 yds while Stephan Taylor rushed for about the same yardage. Nunes also executed the option well running for 3 TDs. SU came from behind to tie as time expired. Intercepted AZ in OT and Taylor ran to the house on their turn.

AZ's carry did run for 130 yds on about 30 carries but they relied heavily on the pass. AZ had a pass intercepted but SU gave up a fumble to make TOs even.

Another great job by the defense against Miami again, hoping that was a good warm up for another passing attack. Bring on the trees, hoping the offense looks just as good next Saturday as they did tonight!

I'm rewatching the game right now. The tempo for the 1st half so far is being forced by RichRods passing attack. Standford had a CB and S leave the game with injuries. Nunes made some easy throws to wide open players. But you can see his decision skills aren't all there yet when you put a little pressure on him. Arizona seemed to have success when they stretch the field with long passes. That's my opinion thru 1st half with score 14-13.

Watch the Washington vs Stanford game if you can. The Huskies stacked the box, stopped the run, and made Nunes look like an 18 year old

Like Michigan st I feel we match up well vs Stanford. Shut down the run game and make the young qb beat you through the air while under a bunch of pressure. If he makes the plays good for him, he earned it. But chances are he will not succeed.

Our defense is designed to stop the running game that they implement. Once again, how we do defensively is entirely dependent on the play of the secondary/pass rush.

Yep. Notre Dame's defense is tailored to destroy big pro offenses. E.g. Michigan State and Stanford. I am more confident about this game than I have been the last two. Stanford is the first team that can run with power (i.e. draw seven or eight in the box) and pass. They're just a better Michigan State. My amateur guess would be ND 26-13.

Sagarin's Predictor Model makes ND a 10.39, say 10.5, favorite over Stanford in South Bend.

I watched part of the Stanford game. As far as injuries go, their CB #6 (team leader in tackles) left the game and I don't think he returned. Anyone know anything about him? I think he's a solid player for them. Any other injuries on Saturday? Luckily, besides Riddick looks like we came out clean.

Also, didn't their RB #33 get banged up? Did he return?

I couldn't find a birthdate for Nunes to see how old he actually is. Like Golson, Nunes is a rookie starter. Nunes is a grade ahead of Golson.

As a freshman Nunes saw garbage time behind Luck in 4 games, primarily handing off. He threw 2 passes completing 1 for 7 yds. He redshirted his soph season. Nottingham was expected to win the Stanford QB job this season. Nottingham has only seen action in one game in '12 against Duke completing 2 of 3 passes for 6 yds.

So far this year, Nunes is 86 for 159, 54% , 1150 yds, 8 TDs to 4 INTs. He averages 7.2 yds/pass attempt, 13.4 yds/completion. He's run 16 times gaining 70 yds but losing 30 for a net of 40 or 2.5 yd/carry. He not the threat Luck was, or Golson is, but he gained 33 yds on 3 carries with no losses against Southern Cal and ran 7 times against Zona for 33 yds and 3 TDs. Zona got him once in the backfield for a 3 yd loss. His runs against Zona that I recall were options near the goal line. When Stephan Taylor is the RB, that's a formidable combination. If ND's D plays disciplined like they did against Navy, they'll stop Nunes goal line success.

Nunes is Ranked #80 in NCAA QB Eff Rating at 126.42. By comparison, Golson is one slot ahead of him at #79 and 126.46, or 0.04 point differential.

Zach Ertz, a 6-6 247 TE, is his leading receiver with 4.2 catches per game and 63.2 yds/game. The second most productive receiver is 6'-8", 263 TE Levine Toilolo with 13 catches on the year and a high of 5 for 141 yds and 1 TD against Zona.

Primary Receivers
Ertz 21 catches, 316 yds, 2 TDs
Toilolo 13 catches, 278 yds, 2 TDs
WR Montgomery, 6-2, 210, 18 catches, 168 yds
WR Terrel 5-11, 179, 10 catches, 143 yds, 2 TDs
RB Taylor 15 catches, 85 yds, 1 TD

#6 Terrence Brown was kicked in the face on the first play of the game and didn't return. I didn't read any updates on his injury.

His replacement, Alex Carter, was schooled by Zona's Austin Hill for 11 catches, 165 yds, and 2 TDs. Brown had 15 tackles, 4 TFL, 1 INT in the first 4 games.

Other injuries reported were Stephan Taylor, finger, but he returned to play and WR Ty Montgomery who injured his knee late in the game and was limping.

I think this game is pretty simple.... spread them out and attack with speed. If we try to bully them up the middle or hold the ball too long on pass plays we could be in trouble. Their DL plays with really high motors.

On D.... this is the kind of team we really match up well with. Ertz will make his plays but they're not going to gash us on the ground with a power running game. It's just not going to happen. I think we're in good position for a W unless Nunes takes a HUGE step forward.

I just read that SU TE 6'-8" Toilolo has a 36" vertical jump. Carlo's gonna need his people to guard him. I envision a lot of failing arms along with "S@#$, somebody get my man!"

Carlo and Fox have played much better than last year but with a 6'-8", 263 TE with a 36" vertical (the other TE in their dual TE group is only 6-6, 247). I'd be tempted to put Niklas back on defense for one game and have him shadow Toilolo.
