I like the idea of Spond on the inside also. He would bring size and mobility to the position that will be trying to replace Manti.
I would hope one of Councel, Okwara, Smith or Mattingly would be ready to roll in 13. Four excellent prospects there.
I agree that Bridza's kicking this year will detirmine Tauchs 5th year.
I'm also of the opinion the staff will take the young talent that fits their profile of player over a questionable 5th year player.

Spond inside would be a terrible idea. He is best in space and not a run-stuffer.

Redfield told me #NotreDame coach Mike Denbrock will be talking with his coach tomorrow about other options for an official visit.

Don't count on #USC S commit Max Redfield visiting #NotreDame this week. He's looking to reschedule b/c he can't use OV for Soldier Field.

Rescheduling because he can't use a OV to the game.

this is a real head scratcher! im sure denbrock knew he couldn't use his official...why wasn't redfield notified of this when he was planning things? don't you think officials would have been a little more planned out? so if that is the case he should have known a while ago...this seems to happen every year

This actually works in our favor, IMO. He'll get to see the campus for a longer period of time, get to take part in the player walk, and see all the pregame stuff around campus. Of course it would be cool to see the Irish at Soldier Field, but this is much better (if he does actually come).

Not sure I like to USC commits coming at the same time as Willis...

look at it this way: they can't all play for USC, especially when USC is already one over its scholarship limit. And Leon McQuay wants to go there too, probably. The players have got to see that something's gotta give, right?

Agreed.

The idea that they could theoretically say to a four-star player "sorry, but someone better has your spot" is just absurd.

I will happily take their leftovers of this class.

Willis isn't going to USC. Priest is kind of down to ASU UCLA LSU. Nebraska and ND hanging around

Traveling with Chris Hawkins. Neither prospects parents are coming. That puts a big dent in the theory of those that think Chris will end up here. BGI said they have talked to Redfield and he does seem to have legit interest.

Well that's a bummer.... had far more hope in Redfield flipping, and I think Hawkins likely just keeps him in the USC fold a la Theus.

That's all you can ask for and this is the setting that could push him to us! If that doesn't work go into the Coliseum at the end of the year and further twist his arm!

Kiffin is making sure they go in groups if they go and he will lock their parents in the basement so they can't make it either.

USC commits will eye Irish - southbendtribune.com

"It's something I've always wanted to do. Notre Dame has a good program and I really like their coaches as well," Redfield said. "I just want to at least give them a shot and check out the campus."

"Before I committed we already established that they would allow me to take all five of my visits to whatever school I wanted to," Redfield said. "They're fine with it. I'm pretty sure they're aware of it and they've actually embraced it."

The last time we didn't sign a player for Cali was in the 2005 class. It could very well happen again this year.

*Disclaimer: Tee technically did signed last year though he didn't make it through the first semester.

18 commits and 15 spots. You know they have a few more in the hopper too. Not a lot of room on the bus and Kiffy isn't afraid to cut people loose.

Conversely, what happens if USC loses to ND and Oregon regular season, lose Pac 10 championship and then lose a bowl game? Those f-ers implode and what would you do as 4 and 5 star recruits?

And I'm not saying that anything will come of it but these kids need a back up plan if USC gets smacked with sanctions again because of the McKnight fiasco. At least thats me hoping.
