We lead but he is going to visit Washington, Cal and Arkansas. Definitely get the sense that the coaches had to tell him to wait a bit to see if there was still a spot.

So why was Shaq Evans considered to be on scholarship?
Wish he was still on the team

If the staff told him they'd take his commitment, he should have jumped. He didn't. He's going to miss out. Makes me think that while he might not be outright lying, he may be stretching the truth a bit.

I was a little shocked by his comment too. Though I would love for him to come aboard, if we do not get Folston, I would rather have Clement. They are totally different styles though so the staff may have something else in mind for Khalfani.

I don't see a shocking comment? My guess is the coaches told him to take his time and take his visits. Allows time to get Folston on campus and make sure Muhammad is certain at same time. Does he play defense at all?

I highly doubt they are recruiting him on D. He doesn't seem to fit the profile of the other D recruits.

I don't pretend to know football as well as the staff but it just seems a bit crazy to me to pass on the California 100m and 200m state champ. Guess there just aren't enough spots.

There is a difference between track speed and football speed. Much different. There is some overlap, but not as much as people think. The 40 is not exactly like track and the 40 is really overrated IMO. Its mainly about agility/ shifty/ acceleration, not that a good 40 hurts, but I think its a poor barometer.

Not thank Khalfani isn't agile or anything (he is), but I wouldn't get anyone purely because of they're speed.

I like Khalfani, but we have the luxury of waiting it out right now- maybe it changes later.

Edit: I was talking mainly about RB.

The staff I would hope would be discussing/encouraging him to take a track scholarship and practice with the football team. I'm sure the track team would take him in a hot minute.
Then if and/or when he develops as a football where he could see the field switch his scholarship over to football.
This would enable us to take another player this cylce and allow him to develop as a football player on the practice field. It's my understanding you can practice with the higher revenue sport as long as you don't see the field. When you play is when your scholarship would get switched.
It will likely be a while before Muhammed would see the field with our stable of backs.

He already has a football scholarship, so I'm assuming they think highly of him as a RB.

I don't think Track and Field offers full scholarships, I've heard they usually break them up.

Edit: Only four sports offer full athletic scholarships to all athletes who receive scholarships: football, men and women's basketball, and women's volleyball. The others are divvied up.

This is hard to believe Notre Dame doesn't offer a full scholarship to a track athlete. smh
I'm not saying your not a 100 percent correct but I guess it explains why a football player holds the sprint record.

Is that just a Notre Dame thing or is that common practice throughout major division one schools?

Agreed, the question is how high. High enough to take his commitment in front of Folston, Clement or over another defensive prospect?

Since there are no options for a full sholly on the track side and he lacks the vesatility this staff likes to recruit, I don't see him getting one of those last slots.

Not higher than Folston, but with Clement it seems to be up in the air.

Someone mentioned earlier in the thread that he might have left out something the staff told him. Might be true, but at the same time maybe the staff thinks he fits that speed back role well enough to take him if Folston picks another school...

There is more to football than just speed. Folston is an all around very good player and is rated higher than him on every service and just looks better on film than Muhammad.
