Of course it is. Why would it be unwise to do it on camera if it wasn't wrong? give me a break.
There are lots of people who, right or wrong, feel that Kelly, as the head coach of the ND football team, represents them to some degree: whether it be as a Catholic, as an alumnus of the University, etc.
Some of these people are in a position to make Kelly's life more difficult when he does something they disagree with it. So regardless of right or wrong, it's in Kelly's interest to avoid pissing them off.
Yelling at players on the sideline, which virtually everyone on this board agrees is completely normal and acceptable behavior for a coach in Kelly's position, is apparently beyond the pale at ND. Thus, Kelly will save himself some grief by holding the tongue lashings in less public surroundings.
If he believed it was "wrong", he would stop yelling at players altogether. He doesn't believe it's wrong, but understands it's not worth the grief he'll endure as a result, so he'll simply refrain from doing it on a televised sideline. Big difference.
You've never once argued that you simply want Kelly to stop yelling at kids on camera because it makes the University look bad, or whatever. You've been arguing all along that it's
per se unacceptable to yell at kids like Kelly does. From his carefully hedged comments on the subject, it's pretty clear that he doesn't agree with you.
