Regarding the Leuers-Toledo Whitmer game, the Toledo Public Schools eliminated lower level sports a year or two back and all the Catholic schools bolted to form a new league. The following year a lot of the best public school football players in Toledo ended up at Whitmer.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association was going to investigate if there was anything inappropriate being done on the part of Whitmer and there was a very real possibility that Whitmer might have to forfeit some or all of its games that year.

The coach left and is now coaching in Michigan. Since Whitmer was a football powerhouse last year, it seems a little unusual that the coach would leave the year after such a great season. The OHSAA investigation may have had something to do with his departure.

Where there's smoke, there's fire. Check out this July 2012 article from the Toledo Blade newspaper.

Not surprising, and of course there is fire. I used to coach in the City League, stuff like that happens all of the time (and not just in Toledo, it is ubiquitous).

Toledo Whitmer is not Toledo Public Schools, they are a separate entity within the city. Thus they have their financial house in order and are doing much better than TPS. Toledo Rogers also takes a ton of talent away from the other schools. Coach Rios has a good thing going on there. Basically if you're a good athlete in baseball, you went to Start, in basketball you wen to Scott/Libbey, in football you went to Rogers. Only now that the TPS is literally crumbling and Whitmer is taking the talent and dollars, there are investigations. It's malarkey.

Rios isn't at Rogers anymore. Left for I think Warren G Harding two years ago and was fired after one year. TPS athletics are terrible now.

Wow. I had no idea. That is crazy. Shows you what living in Columbus does to you haha

I think they're sliding from terrible to nonexistent even now.

Or could it go back to the mob scene at the Whitmer game?

Edit note: Sorry I didn't use italics. I was tired last night when I posted and I forgot. The point of my post is that here you have a guy that won multiple state titles, and had a reputation as almost a coaching icon, and then you saw a team that didn't play very well, heard some grumbling and the next thing you know . . .

My thoughts and prayers go out to Jaylon. Trying to remember back to seventeen; this kind of turmoil can never be good.

football is really picking up in Fort Wayne (probably too quickly for its own good) and when the fans dont like something, someone has got to pay the price.

Can't say that I know what he did, but Lindsey has been a friend of my family for years. The team was not playing well, but that is not why he was fired. What I do know is that the Bishop and the Dioceses stepped in and said you are done. When that happens, nothing good or minor has taken place. The fact that Mary Keefer, the principal, came out and said the reports that he took a medical leave are flat out false also trends in this direction. There will be another statement this evening after practice, where it is expected that Mary's husband Steve will be named interim head coach. Steve was head coach at Luers in the past, and will bring some much needed stability to the situation. Great choice. I do believe that whatever he was caught up in was damaging his ability to coach. They have not looked like the Luers team we have grown accustom to, and have very good players. Jaylon will be fine. Very strong kid with fantastic support around him. This is a HUGE story here in the Fort. I will keep you posted.

This is why Jaylon is in the mold of Manti, and speaks to what he has to offer ND.

When I was a kid I found a writing called the Desiderata, written by Max Ehrmann . This reminds me of all I have seen of Jaylon:

Go placidly amidst the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labours and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its shams, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

All I have been able to find out is that the issue concerned female students. That is all. I don't expect for any announcement to be made due to the sensitive nature of all this. My mom worked at his side for many years at Luers and she is stunned to say the least. Coach Keefer will put things back in order. Bishop Luers is a family, much like Dwenger and ND. A fantastic school full of great people.
If you are so inclined, please remember this family in your prayers, Mr. Lindsey included. We will all need it.

Many thanks and GO IRISH!!!!

Thanks again, wow, I'm very sorry to hear that. I sincerely hope that nobody has been harmed in any way, and I hope Fort Wayne and Luers pull together and grow stronger through this.

Today's Fort Wayne Journal Gazette has an article about what was happened to Coach Lindsey. I don't know how to post links from my phone, but it's on the front page.
