Yeah your right, he will probably just tear right past our potential first round draft pick. Forgot we were dealing with JPP...

What? Dude...I have no idea who's going to "tear past" him because I have no idea who you're talking about. Hence the question...

The muddy/rainy conditions that would favor Denard's first cut would also favor Golson's first cut... but his cut to avoid pressure and hit a deep receiver, not to take off like Shoelace. BK lets Eifert, Neal, and Brown off the leash getting deep, Golson hits multiple deep big plays/TDs. Irish 38-17.

I think the rain is supposed to stop in South Bend around noon or so on Saturday.

I have watched your tackle. I think Shembo shreds him. He isn't that quick.

And as for JPP:

After the last 3 seasons, I'm imaging this dialogue between Te'o and D-Rob.

D-Rob: "You will remove your helmet and tell me your name."

Te'o: "My name is Manti Te'o, Middle Linebacker for this defense and Captain for the Fighting Irish. Loyal player to the better coach, Brian Kelly. Senior at our Lady's University, and teammate to a disrespected team. And I will have my vengeance in this game, not the next."

And that is the rest of the story.

Why are we going to have to score more points?

Because Denard Robinson is ranked 9th in Total Offense, averaging 350 yards per game and 9 yards per gain.

Why is Robinson going to escape our front 7?

He's the fastest guy on the field. He did it two years in a row and will do it again.

You say "huh" when I say he's going to pressure us running and his ability to throw outside the pocket?

WTF?

I think we can win, but Robinson is the most dangerous player on the field.

I'm glad Kelly respects Robinson. Here's a reminder for you and the other homers who apparently have amnesia:

WTF?

My statment that we're going to have to score more points than against PU/MSU, and my reasoning why, isn't rooting for the other team.

Why seek out and embed YouTube videos of Robinsom burning our beloved Irish though?

It's a ****** thing to do.

Careful. Purging dissenting opinions and controlling the message are NDNation traits, where I am not a member for that very reason.

But to the content of my post: Do you think we're going to have to score more points than we did against PU/MSU to win?

Then you don't know many ND fans.

ND has a long tradition of respecting elite players. This comes from the fact that we've had so many of our own over the years, and have played so many elite programs. Winning these games is what makes being an ND fan so sweet.

Yes, yes we will.

And the fact of the matter is, Purdue and Michigan State BOTH have better defenses than UM, so by a logical default it SHOULD be easier to score more than 20

But getting back to the game: Do you think we need to score more points than we did against PU/MSU?

I think they do but I also take comfort in the fact that UMs d is not as good as PU/MSU, so I believe we put up much more than 20 also. Denard vs ND's D is the battle in this game IMO....that and no TOs by ND.

I agree. The key is going to be 3rd down conversions. Golson has got to keep moving the chains and keep Robinson off the field. If we can run the ball, this should open up receivers on short yardage 3rd down plays. If we get in a lot of 3rd and longs, we could struggle again.

Hey, I should have used italics in my first post. Clearly we are going to have to score more points than scUM. Does that mean it has to be more than what we did against PU/MSU (20), not necessarily. Most likely, yes.

The plus side to that, is that their defense should be easier to score against too so it seems as though we shouldn't be concerned with how many we score but how many we GIVE UP.

That is the true test imo. Not how much we can score, but how much we can keep them from scoring.

This defense has been pretty simple so far. Play fundamental and keep the opposing offense on a long field.

To attempt to give a rational response to the Michigan fan about his team's right tackle: A). Taylor Lewan [not King Lewan, he has not earned that name yet, if he already had he would not have been manhandled by Alabama to the point of limping off the field --- courageous, no doubt; King of Football, no], is a fine offensive lineman --- every football analyst, plus our coaching staff realizes that. He is also the best that UofM has. That actually says something when one realizes that UofM has not been able to run the ball except for quarterback runs in three games. With an "All-American" right tackle yet ineffective standard rushing, one might pause for a moment and wonder just how good the entire line is?

B). Alabama wore Lewan down and he was hurt going off the field. Initially there was some speculation that he might even miss games. Well, he's a tough cookie --- true, and reps to him. But he HAS been worn down already this season and at least minorly damaged. An objective analyst might worry just a little about that and use a bit more balanced commentary on how obviously he'll dominate a powerful D-Line composed of three-deep assault weapons for four quarters.

C). Taylor Lewan may indeed be a great pro. He cannot block the whole D-Line by himself, and he will be playing against several guys who will be in the NFL themselves. Prince Shembo is an elite college-level pass-rusher. Lewan will win some. Shembo will win some. Tuitt will win some; probably a lot. If Lewan is lucky he won't have to block Nix; and if he's down in there who's got the edge?

D). a balanced analysis of this might admit that Taylor Lewan is going to need a lot of help on Saturday--- help that there is little evidence of its existence so far [Omameh is a serviceable guard, I'll admit; doubtless he is not considered a first-rounder]. Lewan would seem to be in need of help not only from his fellows on the starting line, but perhaps a serious blow here and there to regroup to face the hydra-headed monster that is the ND pass-rushing line. [I include Shembo and Williams].

In the end, I understand homerism and defiant extremism quite well --- a common human trait... sociologically pathetic and unhelpful for rational discussion and analysis, but understandable. My view is less complicated: Lewan's good. Our D-Line is good. Let's play the game and see if he can block the whole ND defense.

The D line is going to play great. No doubt in my mind. My key to victory is the offense finding ways to get Eifert more touches. I know he did a lot of intangible things last week, but the dude needs to get the ball in his hands more.
