According to this part-time analyst/ full time douche, EG will have two interceptions and be benched by half-time. He called EG inconsistent. May, Smith, and some of these ESPN guys crack me up

This guy has no business doing a job like this. They are always un-prepared and talking of stuff they have no clue. Espn consist of a lot of opinions and very little facts.

Except for Lou, of course. By far the most incisive, unbiased analyst on the network.

Here’s how it’s gonna go down. EG starts…and finishes…but there may be a little Tommy and Andy thrown in there to keep MSU off balance; very different QBs who can make things happen if the opponent can’t adjust, but EG gets virtually all of the snaps. He plays well…some issues, but well. Doesn’t waste many time-outs and turns the ball over two or fewer times. But that’s good enough. MSU’s middle is stout, but we won’t run there, we’ll run everywhere else. CW and TR split carries with GA not really showing up until late for the “fresh speedster on the tired D” attack. Passing game features TJ short on the comeback routes, RT on 3rd downs, DD on medium go routes down the left side, TE, BK and TN over the middle, and a play action bomb to CB (secret weapon) streaking down the right sideline. But that’s not even the best part. The defense comes up big. Finding they can’t run up the middle, or around the end, MSU resorts to short passes in the flats, which we know are generally open in this defense. But this pass rush is something Maxwell hasn’t seen before. One pancake from LN and a couple hurries from ST and PS and he starts rushing and floating those flat throws leading to picks by BJ and, yes, KR, inciting a huge D-boy celebration after he was so panned following the Navy win. DN, gets some yards, muffs a punt, but recovers. Punt blocking still not evident. Saving it for next week? One more interception over the middle and a fumble recovery seal MSU’s fate. ND leads 24-7 at one point and wins 27-17.

Didn't he get suspended from the league for smoking cabbage and retire early to go to medical school? No, I don't want this dude snapping on the glove nor giving me any analysis.

This is good everyone picking aganst us.

Indeed. Sure I'm missing someone but I've not yet seen a single sportswriter pick us to win this game.
Still. We match up well with them, strength on strength, and I wouldn't be surprised if Golson is a better QB than Maxwell, which would give us an edge in the weaker parts of both teams. I know it's on the road, at night, with a young QB. But this certainly feels like a game we can win, especially if we get some breaks like last year. 20-17. Lord knows who scores which.

31-14 ND.

I really don't think it's close, and personally, I think Purdue is the better TEAM than MSU.

I think we shut down Bell. I think we overplay to do it and leave it up to our secondary to win the game. But, when I watched BSU vs MSU, it's not Maxwell that was the issue. Their WR's are awful. Really, really bad. I watched bad routes, drops. You name it, they accomplished it.

We can overcrowd the box, and I still don't think their WR's can beat "good" DI talent on the outside.

Their offense will struggle MUCH more with our D then ours will wth theirs. With a balanced D, we can still move the ball even if they try taking away one faucet of our offense. I don't think the same can be said about them.

Herbstreet was dead on in his prediction last week. Herbie is one of my favorite CFB analysts because it seems like he does a lot of research.

Did Herbstreit really do that??? He never picks a winner when he is announcing the game, and he is announcing it this week.

I also think Herbstreit is among the best in the business, but I disagreed with him last night when he said that Golson struggled last week and that he'll need to throw the ball better for ND to win (kid was on the money throwing the ball last week!). What was great about what he said is that Desmond Howard was nodding in agreement, and then totally contradicted Herbie by saying that Golson threw the ball great last week and that ND needed to run the ball better LOL. And even better, as Desmond was contradicting everything Herbie said, Herbie was nodding in agreement. I thought it was hilarious personally...

Weirdly enough, most of the writers in the Detroit newspapers are picking the Spartans...

Free Press
MSU vs. Notre Dame
Joe Rexrode

MSU 16, Notre Dame 10: A repeat of the famous 10-10 tie of 1966 – except for a couple more MSU field goals and a lot less national interest. Both of these defenses appear to have the upper hand. The Spartans have a better one, plus a night crowd on their side and a quarterback who has been through one of these.

Jeff Seidel

Michigan State 21, Notre Dame 17: This will be a physical slugfest. Don’t be surprised if Le’Veon Bell gets the ball more than 30 times, but the difference maker will be MSU quarterback Andrew Maxwell. Notre Dame has young cornerbacks and it will be up to Maxwell to get off to a fast start and take advantage. On the other side of the ball, the Spartans defense will contain whoever Brian Kelly plays at quarterback.

Drew Sharp

MSU 17, Notre Dame 10: The Spartans finally surrender an offensive touchdown, but this will be the Le’Veon Bell Show once again as the running back impresses a national television audience for the second time in three games. It’ll be close because the Irish finally have a pretty physical defensive front seven.

This too (didn't see this posted yet)

East Lansing -- Michigan State players call Spartan Stadium "The Woodshed."

It is where teams come to get beat and to get beaten up. They are highly protective of "The Woodshed."

Tonight, "The Woodshed" will be lit up for its second night game of the season when No. 20 Notre Dame visits Spartan Stadium for another highly anticipated clash between the two schools. The Michigan State-Notre Dame game is always a barometer for things to come.

The Spartans do not plan on losing this game. They never plan on losing in "The Woodshed."

Players vow to protect turf

The Spartans bring a 15-game home winning streak into the Notre Dame game. Their last home loss was during the final regular-season game — a 42-14 loss to Penn State — of a disappointing 2009 season. The Spartans finished 6-7 that season, lost at home to Central Michigan and ended the season with a 41-31 loss to Texas Tech in the Alamo Bowl. They were just 4-3 at Spartan Stadium.

The next season players made a vow to protect their home turf.

There have been close calls, but they have not lost in "The Woodshed" since.

"This is where we handle our business," receiver Bennie Fowler said. "We don't lose in 'The Woodshed.'"

There is a mind-set once Spartan players hit their turf. They are intense, excited and agitated. The Spartans are more aggressive in "The Woodshed," they say, in part because of the atmosphere, the crowd and the goal of winning every game they play.

"You got to be tough when you come into 'The Woodshed,'" defensive end William Gholston said.

So what message do players want to send opponents once they step inside Spartan Stadium?

"They got no chance," Fowler said. "We are not taking any prisoners and we are not showing any mercy. That's who we are as a team."

Since the 2009 season, the Spartans won on the "Little Giants" play to beat Notre Dame and a Hail Mary at the end to beat Wisconsin. But the bottom line is they've won eight Big Ten games and beaten five ranked opponents at home.

"We don't want to lose there," sophomore receiver Keith Mumphery said. "We take it personal. We definitely don't want to lose there."

Spartans seek revenge

The Spartans say they took the loss at Notre Dame last season personally. The Spartans were ranked 15th heading into the game, but were spanked 31-13. Revenge is on their minds.

"We did not come out ready to play," offensive guard Chris McDonald said. "This is my senior year and I really want to beat them. It (losing) does give you extra emotion and enthusiasm. It is going to be a great atmosphere and we are going to be ready to play."

Fowler agrees.

"It is a big game," he said. "Notre Dame got the win last year and we definitely want to come out and dominate. That's how I looked at it. They dominated us last year and we have to come back and dominate.

"They are coming to our house so we have to dominate."

I agree with you about Robert Smith. Since I used to talk to him when he was at OSU, for some reason, people love to hate him. In person he is really a nice guy, and I just cannot fathom why people are so overtly hostile toward him. He may be one of the smartest former Divison one athletes I have ever met, that has accomplished something on the field.

Herbstreit just said EG was benched last week not hurt. And said nothing about our defense which is our strongest part of the team.

What I don't get is that the "analysts" keep harping on the fact that Golson "got benched" last week, but neglect to mention that he hurt his hand. They're willing to jeopardize their credibility by ignoring facts and just talking about a so-called quarterback controversy when there isn't one.

Probably because when BK was interview by ESPN on Sportscenter he said the move was because of Rees's familiarity of the situation and that BK trusts him in those situations and EG is getting there, and never mentioned it being because of an injury (which happened on the TD dive, not the fumble) so there's really no reason they should believe he wasn't benched for the final drive.

Today's to do list: 1.) Go to the gym, 2.) do some laundry, 3.) find the bottom of a bottle of whiskey while watching the Irish grind MSU into the dirt.
