Skimmed through. A lot of folks talking about not having enough easy games. My thoughts... if we are the team we need to be.... the following games should be easy for us.....

Navy 99% of the time
Purdue 90% of the time
BC 90% of the time
Duke 100% of the time
Virginia 90% of the time.

Even Miami is a cupcake this year so far.

By shear number of ACC teams, no one team will be on the schedule every year, let alone 2 (assuming each team will play ND every 3 years)

As I see it, the ACC has 4 teams that have been, or could be top tier... FSU, Miami, Clemson, and VT. The rest... Mid and low level.

I'd love to see in no particular oder accept I'd like to see the easier games up front...

1. Navy
2. Big10 1 - Purdue/Indian Rotating
3. Big10 2 - UM/MichSt Rotating
4. ACC 1 - FSU/Miami Rotating
5. ACC 2 - GT/Clemson/VT
6. ACC 3 - Syr/Duke/BC
7. ACC 4 - Mar/NC/NCSt
8. ACC 5 - Pit/Vir/WF
9. USC
10. Big 12
11. SEC
12. At large (BYU, other Pac12, Big E, ?)

Your last game will be Standford. Swarbrick already said that USC, Stanford, and Navy are untouchable.

Swabrick said we'll always play 2 Cali teams. People took that to mean USC and Stanford, but I'd guess we rotate Stanford with Cal and UCLA.

Also sounds like Texas is very interested in playing us long term. I'd like to alternate UT and SC for the Thanksgiving game and put the other Cali game elsewhere. We'd have a must watch game Thanksgiving every year.

And all the UT fans down here are clammering for that as well. They need something big to replace the A&M game that is traditionally on Thanksgiving down here every year.

That would be freaking huge.

I thought I'd heard USC and Navy were untouchable, but don't recall Stanford. I'd be OK if that were so (Stanford staying on). I'm perfectly OK with losing the yearly matchup with BC though... Definitely want a B12 and SEC team. I love the Tenn/ND match up, Vandy/ND too.

SEC teams won't schedule us. They want their non-conference games to be as easy as possible.

Bama's said they want to play us and Tennessee has scheduled us in the past... Actually we were looking at a UGA game a while back. This gives us more flexibility on early year games so we're more likely to see this happen.

Eh, super conferences are the only way that's going to happen. There aren't enough quality programs left with the ACC stabilizing for the big ten, big 12 and PAC 12 to all expand to 16. Boise State Louisville and Cincinnati aren't going to cut it for conference expansion.

I tend to agree on this. I think that unless there is a move to super conferences, there is a greater likelihood of teams like Texas going independent than there is of ND being forced to join a conference.

Since Notre Dame is leaving the Big East and USF is in the Big East:

I'll just note that USF is on ESPN tonight and I think I saw a former player carrying a bucket.

That is all.......

Sometimes concrete examples help visualize things/possibilities for me. Here are some schedules which incorporate the following principles:

A). we play 5 ACC games on a rotating thru 14 members pattern;
B). we keep USC, Navy, MSU, and Purdue as traditions;
C). we play either of Stanford or Cal each year;
D). we get a yearly working agreement with Texas;
E). we schedule one further game --- this game is not as flexible as one might like. Swarbrick will try to maintain the 7-5 or 6-5-1 Home vs away pattern. That means scheduling people who will be willing to come to Notre Dame stadium every time. And THAT means MAC or Army or sprinkling around various occasional opponents like BYU one year but not the next.

A year one:
1]. Navy [NYC]
2]. Purdue-a
3]. MSU-h
4]. MAC or... h
5]. Texas [Dallas]
6]. bye
7]. USC-h
8]. Pitt-h
9]. MD-a
10]. Duke-h
11]. VT-a
12]. UNC-h
13]. Stanford-a ...... 6-"5"-"1" pattern.

A year two:
1]. Texas [Soldiers Field].
2]. Purdue-h
3]. MAC/or -h
4]. MSU-a
5]. Syracuse-a
6]. Stanford-h
7]. bye
8]. Navy-h
9]. Georgia Tech-a
10]. Miami-h
11]. Clemson-a
12]. Virginia-h
13]. USC-a ..... this is a "7"-5 pattern.

A year three:
1]. Navy [Redskins stadium].
2]. Purdue-a
3]. MSU-h
4]. MAC/or-h
5]. Texas-h or Dallas
6]. bye
7]. USC-h
8]. Pitt-a
9]. Wake-h
10]. FSU-h
11]. BC-a
12]. NCST-h
13]. California-a..... 6-"5"-1 pattern.

A year four:
1]. Texas- h or Chicago
2]. Purdue-h
3]. MAC/or-h
4]. MSU-a
5]. Maryland-a
6]. California-h
7]. bye
8]. Navy-h
9]. Georgia Tech-h
10]. UNC-a
11]. VT-h
12]. Duke-a
13]. USC-a. ..... 7-5 pattern.

A year five:
1]. Navy [NYC]
2]. Purdue-a
3]. MSU-h
4]. MAC/or-h
5]. Texas - Dallas.
6]. bye
7]. USC-h
8]. Syracuse-h
9]. Miami-a
10]. Clemson-h
11]. Virginia-a
12]. BC-h
13]. Stanford-a. ... and so on. The sixth year ACC team in this fictional pattern would be Pitt, Maryland, FSU, NCST, and Wake.

These schedules are slightly softer [a plus in my book] and still maintain national presence, our true rivalries, and open up a Texas series.

A follow-on thought: if we were ultimately to join the conference fully, the ACC now plays eight intraconference games. That would mean that the above schedules would have to keep four non-conference teams and shed three. If the ACC seemed to be weak, we might want to try to keep both USC and Texas. If the ACC seemed to be strengthening, then Texas would probably go. I suspect that heart would win out over mind and Navy would be kept unless they became absolutely terrible. It might be tough to keep two California schools. I would bet that we would keep at least one of Purdue/MSU however.

I want to start a series with UF, and maintain series with UT and Stanford so we cover Texas-Florida-California every year (and have either Miami/Florida state be the repeated acc team every 3 years)

Regarding the B10 in general. The only thing I'd like to maintain is an in state game. Purdue, Indiana, I don't care. Just one of them, or rotating. The rest of the Big10, I honestly don't care. I'm a Big10 grad, but I will be the first to say Big10 FB sucks anymore. The ACC is sexier geographically, better TV appeal, better recruiting roots, and just better football match ups all together (from a viewer perspective). Give me FSU, Miami, VirT, or Clemson any day compared to the Big10 currently. I'd bet ratings for those would trump UM/MichSt/Wisc/Neb/OSU... Just my opinion, but going down to one Big10 game to me would not break my heart.

I'm bored here in the GIS lab and decided to map the locations of the classes of 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 commitments (+Carlisle). Originally I wanted to map the home cities of the starters on offense and defense (which I did, and is pretty shocking that the offensive starters are primarily from the north while the defensive starters are primarily from the south), but with the ACC change I wanted to map Kelly's recruiting stomping grounds and my amateur guess at the ACC footprint (post Pitt/Syr additions), to perhaps see correlations.

I also wanted to guess where the Shamrock Series was going to go in 2014/2015/2016, and after this I guessed Atlanta, Charlotte, or Orlando. Now with the ACC move I don't know (I'm hoping for Cleveland), it'd be rather pointless to go to Atlanta/Charlotte/Orlando when they'll be playing so close.

So yeah, here. If you're a geography nerd you'll like noticing the obvious trends.

The transparent green was my amateur guess at Notre Dame's usual fanbase location. I know I know, the Irish are nationwide and whatnot, I was just bored. haha

2010 - red
2011 - brown
2012 - orange
2013 - teal
2014 -...darker teal?

EDIT: leading recruiting states in the Kelly era...

Ohio - 12
Florida - 10
Indiana - 8
California - 7
North Carolina - 6
Illinois,Texas - 5
Pennsylvania - 4
Georgia, Kentucky, New Jersey, Virginia - 3
Michigan, New York, South Carolina, Washington - 2
Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah - 1

I am surprised that North Carolina is so high, and that New Jersey is so low.

Wait a minute! Aren't we irrelevant? Should we check with Rick Reilly?
