The more I find out about this the more I like it... still would like to see Notre Dame win a conference title if they are going to be this much of a factor in it though.

BK looks pretty exhausted in this video. I wonder how many recruits he had to call to explain this. I wonder if this will be a distraction at all for this weekend.

PsU fans are now convinced that we will join the ACC for football and when that happens the ACC is gonna come knocking on their door.

I am happy for the other sports programs, but not as excited for football having to play 5 acc games. As much as everyone wants to keep playing purdue, they havent really had a team worth a damn in a while. Id much prefer the scum or msu. And i think being so close to michigan most people around here (sb) dislike michigan more than they dislike pu. I will really miss the air force game, which im sure will be pretty much be eliminated. My grandfather is a big af fan and took me to my first nd game against them, and it had a special meaning to me. I like the schedule best as it is now i guess. But i will be excited to hopefully get some Florida recruits

Neither have we.

Purdue is our second most played rival of all time and an in-state opponent. We need to play Purdue.

This will help us in Florida, but it's not as if we don't have Florida guys on the team. The reasons we can't pull some Florida guys is always going to be the same: weather, academics, women.

Interesting take. Probably overstates the likelihood of our dropping USC and/or Stanford. I'd think we'll try to keep an annual game with both so we play out west every year, and maybe rotate two of the three longstanding Big Ten games. Those four plus Navy still give us two games to work with. But otherwise all well and good.

One thing I don't get about this setup. We'll rotate through the ACC, playing each team just once every three years? Is that right? Seems odd, and like it would preclude the development of any real rivalries there, which is unfortunate.
That said, we could play BC once a decade and it'd be fine by me.

From the article:
I suspect Notre Dame will play two of those three Big Ten schools every year. And that will rankle the fans at all three schools, because -- like almost everybody else in the country -- they get excited about facing Notre Dame. It will also raise the question that Big Ten coaches have occasionally asked: Why should we play Notre Dame if they won't join our league?

Answer: Because it's Notre Dame. And after all these years, after the infusion of television money and radical realignment and the growth of the NCAA tournament and a thousand scandals and a half-dozen attempts to create a college football playoff, there is still only one Notre Dame.

It is being reported that we will play 5 ACC football games annually. Makes you wonder who we will drop in football?

If this is true we might as well join them in football. Why the heck would we agree to something like this? This puts a massive damper on of freedom in football. We may already play a lot of ACC teams but it removes the ability to drop one for a game like Oklahoma.

Maybe we can make deals like this with other conferences. ND can schedule 1-2 games against SEC powerhouses every year as long as those teams can prove that all their players can read above a 5th grade level.

ND fans: Of course ND is relevant. This attention isn't a surprise.
Everyone else: Whatever. ND is terrible and soooo like totally irrelevant.
*ND JOINS ACC*
ACC fans: Yes! This is going to be so great for our conference!
Radio Host: How much time do we have on our show to talk about ND today? This is HUGE news!
Everyone else: Geez, ND. Why don't you just join a conference. Oh, they did? Well how 'bout they recruit better or actually play a tough schedule. Oh, they're at the top of those categories too? Ummm....
ND fans: *Shake their heads*

RELEVANCY DEFINED!

Are we going to be able to play in the Orange Bowl? I mean, we won't ever be the "ACC Champion" because we won't be in the conference...right?

My thoughts, and they may not be popular, are that this is the begining of the end for ND's independence. I love the fact that we're independent and I'm not rooting for it, but you have to see what's going on here.

Eventually, we're joining in football. Make no mistake about it.

Eh, super conferences are the only way that's going to happen. There aren't enough quality programs left with the ACC stabilizing for the big ten, big 12 and PAC 12 to all expand to 16. Boise State Louisville and Cincinnati aren't going to cut it for conference expansion.

Could definitely happen, but they said the same thing when we joined the Big East in the 90's. And we stayed independent. The landscape has changed, but if we win, we will hold the cards, trust me.

exactly...we don't just get an invite to BCS table unless we are strong by ourselves as our own conference....BYU wasn't at the table...but ND is stronger than any conference in terms of power/leverage because it all comes down to money

I hope so....but like another poster said, the Super conferences may force us regardless of our situation..or anyone else's for that matter.

I think the format of the playoff allows anyone access. We're good to go.
