He sure seems to care... a lot...

oh and Bob, what Notre Dame is doing here IS having their cake and eating it too... there is no 'attempting'... suck on that.

He sounds like a fool.
It looks like the rest of the panel thinks he does too.

Bob Ryan is not an ND fan, the rest of the panel is trying to explain that not only is ND relevant but this deal is a huge win. Jones was absolutely right, let ND start 6-0 and see how irrelevant they are.

I certainly dont care about this goobers opinion and nor should anyone else. Just because he has an opinion doesnt make anything this rube says is correct.

Isn't that the whole point of the show. 4 sports writers arguing their opinions.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

Jealous much?????

ND haters fall into two groups:

1. Those that dislike the disimilar (basic human nature to a degree)
2. Those that attended/are affiliated with one of ND's rivals who historically got their butts handed to them every Saturday and resent it, still hold a grudge, and hate it even more that ND still has fans even when playing averagely.

Bob Ryan definitely falls into the second category... just like oh so many BC fans.

There's a 3rd group as well (particularly present in the Southeastern U.S.):
3. Those that dislike Catholics. Sad...but very true.

Lol. Just like so many of my PSU friends today as well. It's great to here Bob Ryan call us irrelevant, while the show he is on is leading off with our move to the ACC. I like Bob Ryan knows basketball better than most, but he looks real bad here.

Yeah, exactly. Fear of the dissimilar. A lot of non-Catholics hate Catholics and by proxy dislike ND. A lot of Big Ten folk hate ND because they can't wrap their heads around a school in their region being private, religious, small, and not a part of their conference.... because, with a few exceptions, they're all big public state schools.

The same things that endear ND to so many are what drive others away. However, with fans of Georgetown and BC it is shocking to me the vitriol they spew towards ND... shouldn't we all kinda be on the same team? Is it because ND isn't Jesuit? I've decided that I think it's primarily steeped in simple jealousy of being a similar type of school without the athletic history/tradition/success/attention that ND gets.

Yeah, they are in the clear to talk sh!t about ND now, because I think it was not beyond possibility that, if ND wanted to be a full member, that PSU would have been booted from the B1G and ND would have slid right into the open spot.

That is very true. Im happy with this move though. Read on twitter that its going to be a big kick-start with the basketball program to build some new state of the art facilities. Notre Dame becoming a big player in basketball can only be good for the Football program in my opinion.

So was Boston College his safety school or what? It's interesting because it's not like he's just giving an opinion, it's like he's really invested emotionally.

Yeah. It would be pretty dull if they all agreed with one another and gushed inane platitudes that we all agreed with. Whatever. And, yes, lots of BC people have a giant chip on their shoulder about ND. Maybe that's Ryan's problem.

By the way, was that actually aired? I don't usually watch that show but the host's chair was empty and half the time the guys weren't even looking at the camera. Felt like they were just in warm-up mode enjoying some pre-show chit chat.

First of all, there are couple things that partially explain Ryan's take here:

1. BC alum
2. Curmudgeon

Second, the delicious irony of a once-great sports writer who has been run aground by upstarts (cable sports, talk radio, internet) that don't play by the same rules that once allowed him to dominate still trading off of his brand equity to get play on national TV taking this anti-ND stance is apparently lost on him. The people who care about ND football (and other sports) outnumber the people who care about Bob Ryan's opinion about ND football (and other sports) about 100:1.

Third, what point is he even making? I'm really struggling to understand. Is he saying that Notre Dame shouldn't join the ACC because nobody cares about them anymore? What sense does that make? Assuming, arguendo, that he is right (note: he is not), wouldn't it be the school's responsibility to make a change? I honestly don't understand what he was getting at other than revealing himself as a jealous ignoramus.

I love it also. All the hate. When ND figures it all out and breaks through. Everyone is going to be hating just as much. I just have this reoccurring thought sometimes, what if ND wins the first four team playoff? Beats two SEC teams to win it all.

What if they do? ND wins the first National Championship in a system that is the most fair the college game has ever seen? Sweet, sweet redemption.

I also never understood how just because ND takes what is offered, it instantly makes the school pretentious/pompous/arrogant. That is just plain infant style haterism. Just because some guy lives in Bel Air it does not make him arrogant, just successful, but plenty jealous haters will connect the house with a pretentiousness that they must project to make themselves feel better about their two room shack… enjoy the view Bob Ryan.
