There was a different rumor, started by a poster on this site, that Everett Golson was academically ineligible. People lost their sh!t, the story went viral, Jason Sapp of all people had to shoot the rumor down, and the site was a laughingstock for a day. I've checked, and this rumor is nowhere else on the web. If it comes out through any other site, we'll have at it. Link to it if it's out there. The whole 'smoke there's fire' stuff isn't always true, as we saw with Everett Golson...

I think the rumor about Everett was a little more cynical, honestly. People here have claimed to have seen transfer paperwork. IDK, it just seems harsh to go through and delete everything related to this rumor. If Tommy is on the team at the end of next season, I'll gladly admit we were wrong to talk about this.

Brian Kelly wouldn’t name a backup quarterback, but expect Tommy Rees to slide into the backup quarterback role.
After not taking a single team rep during fall camp, Tommy Rees very quickly got reintroduced to the Irish offense, taking virtually all the No. 2 reps in practice this week, making up for lost time in Chuck Martin‘s tweaked offensive system.
Kelly talked about the junior quarterback’s return to the depth chart and how he looked.
“I just think he continues to get better in ball position and ball placement and putting it away from the defender. Obviously we had too many turnovers last year,” Kelly said of Rees. “He’s still got room to work on things mechanically. He’s got a low arm slot. Sometimes the ball comes out in an area where I don’t want it. We’re working mechanics because he’s got the mental end of it down. But some of the mechanics we’re still trying to clean up.”
While there weren’t any media viewing windows of practice, word from inside the Gug had Rees incredibly sharp in his first team reps, moving the team efficiently in his first significant practice snaps of the season

Why was it more cynical? It was the EXACT same type of 'source' as this rumor. And no one here has claimed to have seen the paperwork. Just like Everett, they know someone who knows. The site was already embarrassed badly once, and I'd like it not to happen again. You seem not to give a rat's arse if we look bad, as long as we are 'first' to be talking about it. Small rumors about recruiting or field turf or whatever is one thing, but big rumors like this requires us to use more caution. We're talking about a kid's life/future here. Sadly, you'd rather be like the National Inquirer than be factually correct. You want 'admit you were wrong' AFTER the damage has been done??? Seriously?

Again, I've asked you to send a link to ANYWHERE else on the web about this, and you haven't. Proves you'd rather be #reckless and gossip about one of our own players than be right. The OP had no problem with this whatsoever, as he knows the potential impact it could have on the young man, and he knows if it proves true his posts will be restored and he'll be given full credit. It's sad that you, on the other hand, have pushed and pushed and pushed to get this unreported rumor through...

Tommy taking all the #2 snaps in practice logically puts an end to this rumor I'd think. Tommy wouldn't want to burn his third year of eligibility if he had other plans.

Nobody knows what happened, or is happening. It could also put an end to the paperwork of which posters cannot speak. So, I am just saying it puts an end to whatever. Since nobody can speak of it, it may not have (even) been a rumor.

What does it matter if we have 5 qbs it isn't like we have are at capacity with our scholarships anyways.

I'm extremely disappointed in us students who boo'd him. No matter what your thoughts on Tommy, he was our QB in the fourth quarter of a tied game. Not the image we want to project, and in the fourth quarter he needed all the support he could get.

The crowd didn't know Golson was hurt. I'm sure if that was known, the fans would have been praying for Tommy to lead us to a win.

Tommy earned every single Boo he was given. He ended the year last year as an absolute horrible player. He absolutely sucked against Stanford, USC, and FSU. One of the worst QB's I have seen against those 3 teams. And basically cost us the bowl game with 2 pics in the end zone. Then this great leader goes out and gets arrested by the cops, resisted arrest, and kneed a cop!!! And he doesn't deserve that????

Sorry I totally disagree. I am happy he stepped up and accepted it. I was impressed with his interview at the end, and his performance. But, still don't want him to be our starter. And I totally agree with what happened to him when he trotted out. He earned every single Boo.

Now that is passed, he should know how he let down the team with his play, the fans with his play, and let down the school with his actions---now time to move on and he should not be given those Boo's again now. Point made.

IMO he totally earned how he was treated. Remember he was 1-4 against good defenses last year. averaged like 192 yards per game. had 6 TDs and 11 turnovers. The only good denfense he beat was MSU, he still had 1 TD and 2 Turnovers. The d held Kurt Cousins to 13 points and GAIII had a KO TD. So Tommy earned every single Boo!!!!!!!!

Sorry, the leader who gets arrested and resists arrest??? Sorry, he earned the boo's. Like I said earlier, they showed their disapproval of what he did. He took it, and stepped up. Now that is over and time to move on.

I still don't want him leading the team.

What type of leader is a starting QB that gets arrested and then resists arrest??? You can support that, but I really can't.
