Could Randolph play CAT LB? Deeb is locked at ILB because he is a pure run stuffer (I like Deeb a lot, but he isnt as versatile as the others)

I think that theoretically any of our three OLB commits could play CAT, but none of them is prototypical. Ishaq is prototypical. I think you want someone with Ishaq's size and athleticism and/or Shembo's explosiveness and strength for that spot. On the other hand, I could definitely see the value of having Jaylon and Randolph as our two OLBs. With two OLBs with such similar skill sets, we could really confuse quarterbacks. They would never know where the blitz is coming from (not that Diaco is much of a risk-taker when it comes to blitzing, but still, the possibility is exciting ...)

SBT's Tyler James tweeted that he received an email from Doug's HC, stating he plans on making a decision soon.

does anyone seriously know what prompted him to decommit now and all of a sudden by the latest report he is planning on announcing soon which by all accounts seems to be Irish??? he hasn't recently visited so i guess just seems a tad unusual unless he is thinking the train is about to be full ...idk i guess just seems weird

Watching his film and watching Jaylon in live action, I see some great comparisons between the two. The difference is that you can tell how strong Doug is at the point of attack, taking on blocks and rushing the passer. Jaylon drops into coverage and eliminates his half of the field. Both rush extremely well too. Seems like they will compliment each other well on opposite sides...let Jaylon play the DOG and drop into coverage and blitz occasionally, while Doug will blitz often and play closer to the LOS taking on blockers and disrupting the run game while tearing QBs apart.

I love the LBs in ND's class so far and I think Doug fits perfectly into the mix.

My guess and the reason why most commits de commit was he didn't get in. ND was always his second option so all makes sense now.

I'm not sure it's worth it to "lock" anyone anywhere because tgese gyys won't just be competing with eachotger, but guys in '11 and '12 and '14 and '15 during their time. The skill of those guys will also determine where people go.

This would seem more liekly if he weren't a Woodberry Forest kid, that is a legit school.

I bet its because its much closer, has a totally different feel, is on the rise, plus has some of his friends.

Distance is also a major factor. I get what your saying Domina but Stanford is extremely difficult to get into too.

harder than ND???

Much harder for the average student. Harder than ND for athletes, but nothing like either school's typical standards.

GB, if a kid like Randolph can't get i to Stanford, there is just no way they can have a competitive 85 man roster. They are not an Ivy (when it comes to recruiting).

(funny that even in May when they asked him about UVA he brought ND into the converstation)

After reading an article I would say distance was the deciding factor and relationships with other players.

I think you are correct. Much harder for the average student, but probably on par for scholarship athletes.

Definitely don't think it was academics/admissions with Stanford. Woodberry Forrest is a darn near "elite" boarding school-esque place, he comes from a very intelligent/academics family, is very academics first himself, and has a very solid unweighted GPA. I could be wrong, but would be shocked if I was.

This is spot on. If Randolph couldn't qualify for Stanford, then probably 80% of their last recruiting class also wouldn't have qualified. Just doesn't add up.

For athletes the standards are pretty comparable between ND and Stanford (though I'd imagine Stanford's are more selective, just not likely by very much... things like they probably won't make an exception for an Aaron Lynch and see what happens)... for the average HS student, completely different story. But we're not talking about average HS students.

So is anyone attributing the timing to the Anzalone visit? It's a big coincidence if its not related.

I don't think they are related at all, personally. I think Anzalone had always planned on that visit, and that Doug's decommitment was a long time coming.
