Another reason to be entertained by Bolt, he is a true sportsman. He hams it up and gives you the impression he is a loose cannon but when the time comes he steps up to do the right thing.

shared this on facebook yesterday. Never liked Bolt at all. Could even say I disliked him for how cocky he seemed. After this if an American doesn't win I hope he does.

Bolt was getting interviewed after a race and he politely asks to take a pause and honor the US National Anthem.

How I really feel:
That's a classy move, its nice to see someone who is at the top of their field is also a respectful person.

Devil's Advocate:
He knows where the money is.
GDP of Jamaica $25.07 billion
GDP of the USA $15.29 trillion
*not to mention about 65% of that $25bil comes from services/tourism.
Oddly though, most of his sponsors besides Visa are outside the US.

So, pausing to honor our national anthem has to do with that, how?

That is amazingly respectful. I was getting frustrated watching Americans not on the podium laughing and chatting in the stands during our anthem, and I haven't seen a single interview that was paused for another country's national anthem, either by the athlete or by the interviewer.

Really cool. I love the Olympics.

Better man than me. If it wasn't the U.S. anthem, I'm sure I wouldn't care.

I think Carl Lewis was quick to discount Bolt's time drop while nearly every elite US sprinter was doping. It wasn't fair to Bolt and Bolt threw stones back. Tough titties.

Olympic legend Carl Lewis is among more than 100 American athletes involved in a cover-up of drug use, documents reveal.

Lewis and two of his training partners all took the same three types of banned stimulants and were caught at the 1988 US Olympic trials, according to the documents released by a disgruntled former senior US anti-doping official, Dr Wade Exum.

But on appeal to their national Olympic committee, all were cleared of inadvertent doping. Two months later, at the Seoul Olympics, Lewis finished second in the 100 metres sprint. But when Canadian Ben Johnson failed his Olympic drug test, Lewis was awarded the 100m gold.

Jamaica owns the podium in the 200m. Bolt is the fastest man ever, by a large margin.

I wasn't aware of the Carl Lewis doping. What was Johnson's doped up 100m time anyway? Only doping in Jamaica is of the mary jane variety.

I was telling my wife about this last night and she said something interesting:

"That is cool. It's kinda like how Kelly always stops his interview when the alma mater starts".

I married good, fellas...

1st Johnson 9.79 (Disqualified)
2nd Lewis 9.92 (Gold)
3rd Linford Christie 9.97 (Silver)
4th Calvin Smith 9.99 (Bronze)

Johnson was stripped of the gold medal two days after the race. While Lewis was awarded it after failing a pre-Olympics screen.

The race has been referred to as "the dirtiest race in history". Basically Lewis was the be all of Track and Field at the time and the sport couldn't take the hit of losing him. They covered it up and then took away Johnson's gold medal for doing the same thing Lewis did.
