No. He's removed from the team permanently, but he stays on scholarship. It effectively transforms his football scholarship into an athletic one.

so he cant go to practices either? Kind of sucks to be on the team for a couple years, make friends and everything, then all of a sudden be banned from all team activities. I understand not traveling with the team and everything, but I think he should be able to go to practices and be on the sidelines during home games and stuff.

Feel so bad for him. :(

Very sorry to hear this, good luck Brad, everything happens for a reason even if that reason isn't readily apparent. I wish you nothing but success in all your endeavors.

Just to be clear, his scholly will still count towards the 85 for the football team? What do you mean when you say it won't be a football scholly but an athletic one?

Not to make light of the situation with Brad Carrico being on a medical scholarship, but it doesn't count towards the 85 total at #NotreDame

Best Wishes Brad

Do you know something Sapp doesn't know?

Edit: just re-read your comment and it appears you're asking a question, I think.

Yes, I was asking for Whiskey's clarification, but had I checked a page back I would have known. My bad :)

Was a typo. Sorry for the confusion.

Changed "athletic" to "academic".

whoops...i mean...

Are you seriously celebrating a kid's injury? Is that supposed to be funny or something???

Please don;t bring the crap that you do on your other site to this site. Members here have shown a lot more class than what you just did. Thanks...

This really, really sucks for him. I remember when the doctors told me I was done. It's not easy.

But suddenly the Irish can take another recruit for 2013? When will we know about Roberson?

From the fall camp thread...

Notes from today:
- Golson looked good, but still needs to get up to tempo
- Also noticed Goodman's NOT so solid hands
- Cam Roberson was practicing and looked good
-Theo taking control of RB's for a talk
- Troy Niklas looked HUGE
- No real defensive highlights

Not sure if anyone posted this yet, but we posted it on the Turning Point facebook page.

Here was Mr. Carrico's comment:

Doug Carrico: Thank you all for your support. This is not the way any of us wanted Brads ND football career to end but unfortunately life doesn't always cooperate. If it had to happen we are fortunate it happened at ND. Brad is disappointed but understands the value of a ND education. Thank you Coach Kelly and the entire football staff for keeping the promise you made to us when Brad committed. ND has a great history and great facilities but it's the people that makes it a great university. We have loyal fans and the right coaching staff and leadership to bring the greatness back, keep the faith. Coach Kelly is bringing in top recruits that we will enjoy watching on the football field but you can also be proud of off the field. Thank you to the staff of The Turning Point 2011 for making and posting this picture, very classy gesture.

Great stuff, thanks for posting.

This is one thing, like many others, that makes ND special. If this were Alabama he'd never be heard from again. Kelly, and this university, cares about the players. This is why they are required to do the same academics. This is why they live with the student population. It's not a form of punishment or draconian policy, it's to help the players understand that ND is a family. This extends to the football team as well. Love to hear that, even if it is in the context of something awful like the end of Brad's career.

The Carrico family is nothing but classy people with huge hearts. The sports means alot to their family, and even though its hard you can def tell that they are content with Brad being able to a first class education and that the staff falls through on their promises. It would have been real easy for BK to close the door earlier to open up room for another, but he gave Brad a chance to see how the surgery/rehab went and still kept his word on allowing Brad to finish up his education.
