Point of discussion... how do we compare an 18 man class to a 32 man Alabama class?

Average rating, I'd assume.

Exactly. Not everyone would have been jumping on board so quickly. Recruits know that if they want a spot they better jump on board quickly.

This one isn't a surprise at all either. It's going to be REALLY interesting to see what they do when these guys want to take visits. You think all 16 of these guys, many of whom wanted to wait but also had USC as their top school, aren't going to want to join the fun and go on OV's???

This isn't like ND, where they have told all the guys to go home, talk to their families and make sure that they want to go ND. This is a case of USC recruiters (who are very, very good and who are selling a very attractive product right now) telling guys to get their spot now before it's gets taken up by someone else. And these guys are elite players, so they will still have all the top programs all over them, trying to get them to visit. It WILL happen; it will just be interesting to see how Kiffy handles it. The cannot afford to miss on anyone; they HAVE to fill every spot, as last year they missed out on some guys on NSD and it hurt...

Great illustration of two very different yet both successful recruiting styles. From an ethical comparison of the 2, it's hard not to admire ND's style over USC's.

Ah I see. That's a nice stat, but completely irrelevant to either teams recruiting class or upcoming seasons. All time records didn't mean shiit when we're getting handled by Navy. I enjoy the history and lore of ND, but I'm more concerned with the here and now.

Well here and now ND will be adding to that stat.. I was saying we need to keep a lead on USC in both recruiting and games.. They go hand and hand if you think about it.
I'm very happy with our guys and know the Irish will fight hard.

Kiffin is alright with him taking visits he said as long as USC is the last.

Seriously this is a good question. I don't think it changes the analysis though. You take into account the average rating of the players AND the number of commits, which I think is the normal way. So USC's average player rating has to far outstrip Alabama's for USC to have the better class. I think that's fair, because a team's ability to meet its depth needs in recruiting is as important as its average player rating. If all your best players are at only a couple of positions, you didn't have a great recruiting class, because your best players can't all play at once. I get that USC is hamstrung by the schollie restrictions, but I don't think that should change how you compare the recruiting classes.
