They talked (somewhere, some article recently) about Longo reshaping Bivin's body, and they talked about how rough he was, but my recolection is he is good now and the rest is a huge upside. The past couple weeks has born this out. As does this picture. Who has least around the middle? Who is the widest, like in a natural tackle (or lineman) build? I'm telling you . . .

Both Hunter and Pocic pass the eye test, but LTT looks like a few years of conditioning problems waiting to happen. I still say Hunter's frame has the most upside, but Pocic looks like he could throw some people around too.

LTT is extremely overrated. The fact he is a 4 star is baffling to me. Glad we got the guys we did. They gave him a 4 star based on potential alone thanks to his God given size.

Agree about Bivin and Pocic. Both will be studs.

Watched some of the game last night with American Samoa. In Hunter Bivin, Harry Hiestand has a block of granite to sculpt into a Notre Dame lineman.

USA lost to Canada 23-17 in the gold medal game. Bivin earned All-Tournament honors and very, very high praise from everyone involved. Here's a quote from his coach when asked about Pocic, Tulley-Tillman, and Bivin:

“Those guys are all explosive, they're all athletic and they've all got room to get bigger,” Specht said. “Hunter Bivin looks like a tight end right now. When he's athletic at 6-7, 340 and playing left tackle at Notre Dame, forget about it. I think all three of those kids, because of their bodies and how athletic they are, all have bright futures.”

Yup, that's the reason they let them into the tournament where they beat the U.S.

To be fair Team USA is much younger than Team Canada. It is also not all the best players. I think, though, that Canada has some legit talent now. That is the result of the work Laval University, in Quebec City, and some of the other schools have done promoting football to the youth. Half of that team is from the province of Quebec and that is pretty new. There is going to be a very good crop of young players coming from Canada in the future. All the high school have teams now. They have nice facilities. Kids start playing about 4-5 years earlier than what we did 10 years ago. So much have changed in the last 7 years, it is really incredible.

Send the players from The Opening to play Canada's best players.

The result of this game is not indicative of anything.

Yes it is. Who wants it more. And the Canadians have a secret weapon, the Genna.

Exactly, people think basketball is dominated by the USA, no country is even close to the USA in football. Bivin proved he belonged with the Tier 1 players, but this team was mostly Tier 2 players, get a team full of the kids from the Opening and these games would not have been fun to watch after the 1st Qtr.

having said that, I want countries to start catching up with the USA, I would love to watch more international games of football.

Are there D1 caliber players on this Canadian squad? Do US colleges recruit Canadian kids out of high school?

Yes, and yes. Although it is definitely an exception. Michigan State signed a kid last year out of Canada who was one hell of an athlete and had serious ND interest.

Thanks buddy. Canadian football is outside of my purview, but I'm not shocked to hear that there are a few legit players north of the border.

There are schools that has some recruiting presence here. I know that some kid in my old secondary school was talking to Purdue, Tennessee, and some others this season. I am not certain how serious the interest is. I think that Canada performing well in the last 2 championships might attract some schools up north. I also think the talent pool is getting pretty good.
New England prep schools recruit heavily in Quebec. I am not certain, it's the best competition to play in to get a major Division 1 scholarship. It's great for other sports. In the end, most of them come back to play for Canadian colleges. I think there are a lot more guys now in prep schools, though, than when I went there a few years back.

To be honest, I am not entirely certain of everything going on. I just took notice of some things, because I have a 14 years old brother who plays football, and he is telling me about it a lot. It's easier to know who are the great hockey prospects than football. :p
