did they mispell college on number 2, or am I misreading that?

They misspelled "college". College! That should be an immediate rejection.

I don't think anyone knows for sure if it really came from the coaches. I saw the discussion on the Penn State a number of weeks ago and they didn't know who sent it either. Maybe Alex could join IE to clarify this matter.

You're right. It couldn't have come from the coaches, it looks like a 4th grader made it.

I have no dog in the "business" school fight. Is ND regarded as a better place? Sure.

But it's what you make of it. They can provide you the education, you have to accept it.

Case and point. I'm a software engineer at a LARGE company. A friend of mine, who is of the same 30'ish age, works here as well. He's an ND grad in finance. His boss, who is younger than him, is a Penn State grad.

How do we explain that?

I think you missed my OP. Truth is, as I stated in the OP, Penn State is superior to ND in an awful lot of engineering programs. At my current firm, the two other engineers at my level are both Penn State grads and one is far better than me. Of my 4 bosses, 3 are Penn State grads. And at the Government contractor I worked at before, my 2 bosses were both Penn State electrical engineers. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the school (again, as I said in the OP) both because of the people I work with and the family I have that attends there. It's a really good all-around school with a lot of great programs.

BUT! That doesn't stop me from cracking up at "creative" recruiting that oversells their business school. I hate that kind of crap in recruiting. Like how someone at Ohio State might go "LOOK AT OUR 970 APR!!!" when they only have a 51% graduatio nrate for African Americans. Just be straight with kids. Calling it a "feeder" school for Goldman is just.... hilarious. Even ND is hardly a true "feeder" for investment banking the way certain Ivies are... and I promise you if you looked at the matriculation rate to that industry for finance majors ND would be much greater. That's all I took issue with; how they were making Penn State/this BS/MBA program he probably wouldn't even complete without a RS year look like it was equivalent to the ultra competitive and exclusive BS/MBA from Wharton. "Only 12 people get in and it's a feeder for Goldman!!!" Just ridiculous.

Edit: I'm in no way implying anything about an ND degree. It is what it is. For us that didn't obtain one, it's something that we dream about (literally, I kick myself thinking about the past and what I would have tried to do at ND). But it isn't end all, be all. I know we all, as fans, pride the university on it's education, but what it COULD provide doesn't mean it's the same for all students. There are student-athletes that do just as well outside of ND. Is the percentage higher that they will succeed with an ND degree? Sure. Does it mean that a degree from PSU means that they will ALWAYS be less successful than someone from ND? Absolutely not.

I completely agree with everything you say here to a letter. You can be successful no matter where you go and what hand your dealt if you are willing to work at it. Like I said in my OP; if Alex does pick Penn State I'm sure it will have been a well though out and reasoned decision.

Hearing from ISD that he is close to or already commited to PSU

ISD has had a tendency recently to be filled with some really crappy rumors with most of them being wrong. Just hope this is another one of those scenarios.

Really? The Hounshell thing sure as heck hasn't been confirmed wrong (or at least completely inaccurate). This one came via a mod, and is probably close to accurate considering Wiltfong has basically posted the same thing... that PSU went from trailing heavily to overnight the favorite or even with ND. Bummer, but I also think the Deeb commitment might have had an impact (as much as people disagree) because he was intrigued with playing MIKE and Deeb is an ILB who appears to be most suited for that position.

If he goes to PSU, it's going to be because he thinks it is the right fit and thought it out. I appreciate kids who approach things the way he has (after the decommit from OSU, that is). I think it's important to note how different OSU, PSU, and Florida are from ND in terms of atmosphere. ND is the outlier in that group as a small school; all the others are bigger state schools. Sometimes that's just a better fit for what someone wants, other times it's not. Best of luck to him at PSU if that's where he chooses.

How has the Hounshell rumor not been proven wrong. Hounshell himself said he is fine. This to multiple sources.

I've had the exact opposite experience there. They have a couple of guys really tuned in to what's going, and have been spot-on, especially the one who posted the Hounshell rumor (looks to be false, but not confirmed one way or the other yet). They have one guy who called like 3 straight committments before anyone else had reported them - Sapp, Wiltfong, and Priester included (Onwaula - spelled that wrong!, and Robinson for sure).

But anyways, this is from a mod who has been very close to the situation. Sucks b/c he has felt Anzalone would be Irish for quite some time, when many others were saying UF the whole way. For him to say that Anzalone is either leaning heavily to PSU or might have even committed already, that's a big blow...

not suggesting i dont believe you, but who are these multiple sources? thanks.

This. Please link these multiple sources.

It's actually been quite the opposite, what seems to be the prevailing thought now is that something happened and that it wasn't as bad as initial report from the "source" thought that it was.

BTW NDinLA, that post you made on ISD was textual ***-kicking of that guy. The fact ISD is glacial to ban paying customers (duh... good business...) really hurts that board.

Isd and mike frank also were convinced that nd was joining the big 12 a week ago. While I'm not saying they are wrong yet they seem to have jumped the gun to be the first one to report it.

I don't know why they don't, Warchant does all the time.

No they weren't. They were just talking about how it would be a better fit than the options available, if ND couldn't remain independent.

THE HOUNSHELL RUMOR HAS ALREADY BEEN PROVEN WRONG!!! CHASE HIMSELF SAID IT WAS UNTRUE AND LAUGHED AT IT. WHY IS THIS NOT ENOUGH PROOF FOR YOU GUYS?

There was an incident, and the injury turned out to be far less severe than the "source" on ISD initially thought. So literally the only thing inaccurate in the account given on ISD was the severity of the injury. Everything else to a letter was correct, just jumped the gun on how big of a setback it was. The only thing people are trying to say here is that ISD has not been "filled with really crappy rumors" as one poster stated.

Posting in all caps is utterly ridiculous for anyone older than middle school.

If there was an injury what was the injury? I'd like to be informed of this and someone else would like to be informed as well lol

The idea was he reaggravated his shoulder. He apparently didn't actually hurt it... or didn't hurt it as badly as reported.

Are you saying there was no incident? Because, frankly, I know you talk to a lot of players and/or are relatives with someone (Hardy?) but I'm very inclined to believe that there was. And no mods on any of the premium sites have given a straight answer. Mike Frank said, after digging, that he was pretty positive "something happened" but couldn't get a straight answer on what. The only thing clear is that he appears, after the dust has settled, to have not really hurt anything.

Considering Notre Dame wouldn't release for months information on Collinsworth and Niklas for months..... I'm just saying. Someone give me a quote from any premium site staff that says "Chase Hounshell 100% did not get into a scuffle and is completely 100% healthy" and I'll change my mind. As it stands, it seems like the events happened as the guy on ISD said and it just turned out to not actually be any sort of serious injury.

I would like to know: How today's development with the NCAA all over PSU threatening to tear them a new @sshole before the US Attorney does, by way of something as severe as having them shut down their entire football program, affects the recruiting process of one linebacker?

All rumors aside I am worried because everything points to the fact that Alex thoroughly enjoyed his visit to PSU. That doesn't mean that he is going there but I always get concerned when one of our top targets takes a final visit somewhere other than the DOME. I do still think we have a great shot but whoever he does choose even if it is us, I will be worried until signing day. It's not that I think he would back out of his commitment it's just that I want him to come here that much!
