Off Topic but TP is this what your hearing?

“@TurningP2011: ND. FSU. Louisville. Big 12. #gameon”

Those three where the three mentioned weeks ago, maybe plans have moved along well? (the succession of tweets I posted)

As far as who's next... Mattingly?

That sounds like a good bet. Tough call with a lot of these guys now. I still think we are in good shape with them just gotta play the waiting game. Don't forget, how many guys visit and then 2-3 days later we get the good news!

That's who I'm going with. Would be really happy with that. Athletic and Versatile.

+1. Also think if Deeb has a commitable offer he could pop after this weekend if it goes well. Wonder if the staff wishes they didn't pass on Bolden last cycle.... or McNamara for that matter with the Niklas developments.

What, are you now Urbie?

The McNamara one hurts.

Back OT, I really have no idea who pops next. I think things are open right now for a few to commit when/if they want to. I'll be sitting back patiently waiting.

What do you guys think of Deeb? Deeb apparently has a sister at FSU so that could play into it but I wouldn't want to go to college with my sister so we will see.

Mattingly would be a great pickup, especially if Niklas has serious medical issues. Like Niklas, Mattingly can play LB or TE.

I'm not blown away by Deeb's film, but the staff likes him so I like him, I guess. If we don't get Anzalone, who else is on the radar at ILB? Anyone else, now that Cox and Mastrogiovanni have committed elsewhere?

Deeb reminds me of Carlo Calabrese. Not very athletic but hits hard. Deeb has good hands though it appears.

I agree with all that. Thick and tough, but maybe lacking a little quickness. But he did make a number of interceptions in the video I saw. It can be hard to tell how much of that is luck and how much is good instincts in coverage. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and say it's the latter.

If we get Smith, Anzalone, Mattingly, and Muhammed--which still seems very possible-- that would rival the DE haul of 2010, IMO.

Agreed! And there is potentially more. Plus our defensive back haul may even be better, (this said in light of the fact that I think the last two years have had a plethora of under-rated db's.

what is the word on the running back situation? I know we are loaded but i feel like one is a need every year.

Well the 2 top guys are off the board, Green and Isaac. Then Clement verballed to Pitt. Folston is still looming, need him to visit. You got the kid from NY Agusta I think who wants to play with Ogundeko so will see. Then you got Khalfani Muhammed and Igbuike looking for offers. Look for more kids names to pop up as the staff continues to evaluate.

Sorry it's Igwebuike, and I forgot there is Dave Williams too. I would love to get him but I don't have the warm and fuzzy feeling. Don't fret just yet though, haven't even played a game yet. That could change a lot of things!

Pretty solid summary!

Folston is the best available left on the board. After that you're looking at guys like Dave Williams... and then Mizzel is maybe a long shot but he's definitely a solid player. Godwin Igubike has a very good chance of landing an offer after he camps.

Beyond those 3-4 guys.... we probably pass on a RB in favor of taking another "swing player" or athlete or DB/WR. RB is just not a priority if it's not a guy we don't think can come here and be a starter.

also Ezikel (sp?) elliot i know is commited to Ohio ;) but there were some rumors before so who knows if this sticks...so on the commited list him and green would be the only ones i would see doing any flipping to us...and not much confidence in that either, but then again it's recruiting and nothing is ever solid!

Yeah, that's a good point! Would love to have him, but I don't know he seems in awe with Meyer. I could be wrong but I don't feel very confident in flipping him. After Green and Isaac he is my next favorite RB prospect. Really wish the staff could have locked him up! The waiting game hurt us IMO.

no surprise, they will lose a punter next year. ND gets a ST player about every year now. Fans should not be upset with this, its to be expected these days. Hopefully we can get the #1 Punter to go along with the #1 Long Snapper.

A great punter's achievements and effect can easily go unnoticed. Making the defense's life easier makes the offense's life easier.
