Paging Doctor BGIF (and others):

I'm sure this has been brought up somewhere before, but I don't know where.

As we know, unofficial visits are on the recruit's dime. Seeing as how many recruits across the country don't have the means to pay for a lot of trips, is it okay (per the NCAA) for a coach at a school to suggest to a player a method for getting to campus? For example, if Beau Benken were still in high school and coaches at Miami were interested in him and wanted him to come visit, but he couldn't afford it, could Coach Golden put Beau in touch with some high school "coach" or alum or booster or some random person to hitch a ride with and get him down there? Or does the NCAA supposedly prohibit that?

The word "recruit" and "booster" in the same sentence is never a good thing.

Beyond that, I'll defer to experts.

I would imagine that if a booster or coach were to cover costs in any way the NCAA would look at that as the school covering the costs... not positive, but that would follow my understanding of it.

That's my understanding as well.

What if it's just an alum or some random person? I initially asked because I got to thinking about this-- there's no way a lot of these recruits are visiting a lot of these schools out of their own pocket.

I have often thought the same... random family friends is prob. one thing... alums, def. not.

High school coaches, high school boosters, wealthier relatives, etc. There's never a shortage of people willing to help a budding athletic star.

Right, so if Coach Golden (or someone in the department) introduces or connects Beau to a random person (non booster, non alum) willing to drive him down there, that's ok?

That random person would very likely be considered a Miami booster if Golden is directing recruits to him. The definition of "booster" is absurdly broad.

So pretty much a pre-existing relationship has to exist to get the ride.

Thanks, fellas.

It would be much safer than those windowless vans he hops in for a piece of candy.

I've actually done that a time or two-- mostly okay experience but my Johnny Zone sure was sore the next day.

So how did Cole Luke get to come with his coach, an ex ND player, who was on his way to ND for a camp?

Sounds like a loop hole. Not saying it is in Cole's case but how east is it to find someone to take a kid across the country and claim "pre-existing relationship"?

I've got another recruiting question-there was a nice article on Khalfani Muhammad on II. Clearly he is smallish at the running back position, but he is number 1 in the state of California in the 100 and 200. He can dunk a basketball and he is as strong as an ox. I remember Raghib Ismail was another smallish running back that could fly. Was wondering if anyone who has seen film on him thinks he could become that kind of returner/ hybrid back/receiver and if anyone knows why we are holding off offering? Thanks in advance

I went to high school with him, have seen him play in person and, just my opinion, he isn't an elite prospect. High character guy, but he is very small and more of a shifty back. And even his strengths (speed, shiftiness etc.) aren't at a level that would over come his lack of power and size.

Guys like Folston and Ryan Green are better backs that ND is going after.

Were I Beau, I'd hold out for a plane ticket. That's one long-arse drive.
