I like this thread, even if it's "too early" because we don't know scholarship numbers. What's interesting to me is that I think the total # of available scholarships is quite in flux and will have a massive effect on how this class pans out. The way I see it we have anywhere between 7 and 10 available scholarships right now... most likely either 8 or 9.
If we take 8, you're looking at... IMO...
3 LB
2 DL
1 WR
1 DB
1 best available... likely a DB, RB, LB, or DL/LB hybrid
So with 8... you're really looking at probably 3 out of 4 between Randolph, Mattingly, Anzalone, and Cox. I think Ebenezer is going to be deciding too late in the cycle... I think Ball gets passed on... I guess we'll see, but with 8 we might fill up mighty quick at LB and some guys we want to take we might have to pass on or slow play.
Then you're probably looking at Cole Luke (hopefully) or one of these other DBs... can you turn down a Leon McQuay? I know you can't turn down a Heargraves. But it becomes a really big discussion point between a RB, 4th DB, or additional LB/DE.
At DE we're clearly going to push for Rochell (who knows, he could even commit today or be a silent)... whose after that? It becomes much easier to take an Alec James DE/LB or someone else if we have 9 spots. Do we hold out for Alquadin Muhammed or Jordan Sherit?
And then at WR I have absolutely no idea who our 3rd guy is going to be. Depending on who we can get and the year Corey Robinson has in HS / the year Chris Brown or Justin Ferguson has maybe we don't take a 3rd guy. Right now, Demarcus Robinson is the only big time WR even on our radar.. and we certainly don't lead there.
So it'll be interesting to see what happens. You can see how this class is shaping up, but at the same time decision schedules and a numbers crunch could really change things. Do you risk slow playing any of these guys? And obviously, new names are going to pop up... for now, I'll go ahead and gander a best case scenario of:
Mattingly, Randolph, Anzalone
Rochell, Muhammed
Cole Luke
Leon McQuay
David Williams
