The S&C Coach from my hometown's high school tweeted this and I wanted to share it to show the football stadium. Problem was I didn't know where to put it and I thought it would be interesting to have a thread where members could share info on their hometowns and any connections they have with ND.
Our FB stadium is a converted baseball stadium that used to be the home of the New York Baseball Giants minor league team. Frank Leahy lived in the lakefront community of Long Beach on the town's NW side. He was part of the group that brought the Giants to town. It was converted to football-only back in the 90's. When SC plays at ND, they stay in MC and practice at Ames Field. Across the street from the entrance to the field is the Skwiat Post - American Legion. Folks used to gather there and boo the Trojans as they walked in for practice. My hometown is VERY Polish Catholic much like South Bend's westside so ND Football was the one team 95% of people agreed on. A lot of the visiting teams used to stay at the old Holiday Inn "Holidome" back in the day. Got into a couple fights with the Penn St fans in 90 & 92. Those are stories that deserve their own thread. Funny thing is, we consolidated HS's changed the colors to Navy / White / Gray and where white out uni's like PSU.
Being 30 minutes from South Bend, my hometown has many connections with ND. All bring them up later.
