I'm wondering how Cashman keeps his job. We've need pitching for so long and he continues to sign guys that can't contribute with a bat.

Two starting studs goes a long way in covering up players who can't hit.

But that was fixed when they fired the hitting coach, wasn't it?

Its going to be a long, dark season...
Can't we just rewind to '98-'00?

Dark season? Looks more like The Dark Age.

One or two players isn't going to things around. They need a bunch of players now and a Jeter, a Rivera, etc, etc, ... down on the farm.

You have to a long way back to find a worse hitting Yankees team. I mean (leaving out the last two years, which are part of the same thread), back to the late pre-Murcer, pre-Munson days. I mean, Horace Clark and Bobby Cox days.

1968 New York Yankees Batting, Pitching, & Fielding Statistics | Baseball-Reference.com

Except that team had better pitching than this one.

Speaking of The Dark Age!

One of the most memorable trades in New York in that era was Yankee pitchers Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekich swapping wives, some of the kids, and the family dogs.

New York Yankees to retire Andy Pettitte's No. 46 - ESPN New York
February 15, 2015, 10:24 PM ET
By Andrew Marchand | ESPN.com

Andy Pettitte will have his No. 46 retired by the New York Yankees and receive a plaque in Monument Park, a source confirmed to ESPN.com.

Pettitte will become the 18th member of the Yankees to have his number retired. Pettitte was known for his big-game performance, helping the Yankees win five championships during his career.

The news of the honor was first tweeted by Pettitte's son, Josh. The Yankees are also likely to retire Bernie Williams' No. 51 and Jorge Posada's No. 20 in the future, according to a source.

Pettitte finished his career with a 256-153 record and 3.85 ERA. With the help of the expanded playoff format, he has won more games (19) than anyone in playoff history. His postseason ERA is 3.81 in 276 2/3 innings.

Pettitte was named in the Mitchell Report and admitted to using HGH. His quick apology and continued success on the field allowed him to be forgiven by Yankees fans and the team's management.

Last year, Joe Torre's No 6 was retired, while Tino Martinez and Paul O'Neil were honored in Monument Park. In 2015, Williams is scheduled to have his own ceremony, while Derek Jeter's No. 2 will be retired in the near future.

"Break Up The Yankees!"

"Break Up The Yankees!"

Whoda thunk it?

Yankees in First Place!

Took 2-3 from T.B!

Took 3-4 from DetroitQ

Stopped Mets 11 win streak!

I expected them to be mired in the cellar starting the Jeterless Era with an old, surgically re-built pitching staff, along with old, surgically re-built hitting.

Gardner leads team B.A. Texiera leads HRs and RBI's and still doesn't hit his weight. The juiceless ARod leads Slugging %

Hey, it's early. They have time.

Not a Yankee fan, but I am a fan of nd1's avatar. Shame he doesn't post anymore.

They've already provided me with more entertainment than I expected for the whole season...the run differential is the shocker to me. It's way early still but i hope they can keep it going.

The first week of the season NY was 1-4.

In the past 2-1/2 weeks they're 11-4 ... against stiff competition.

They only had 6 hits yesterday but parlayed 5 walks and a hit batsman into a win.

Yanks fell out of 1st place with a 2-1 loss to MIA. Tanaka pitched well but didn't get run support.

ARod needs 5 hits to join the 3,000 club.

O's win to stay 3 behind.

Yanks expected to call up 2nd baseman Rob Refsnyder from Scranton.

Drew has a dozen HRs but hitting under his weight.

really hoping they don't go for a big trade deadline move. Refsnyder/Drew will be fine at 2B, don't mortgage the future for a minimal upgrade of Zobrist. Likewise do not want another SP unless Sabathia gets bumped to the pen, and that's not going to happen. We have a good farm system for the first time in a LONG time let's not throw it away for an extra win or two coming down the stretch this year.

ARod goes Green Monster again in the first but Sox prevail 5-3.

ARod's next hit ties hit with Palmiero for 24th on Hit List.

Os lose to stay 3 behind.

Ref 0-3, hit into DP and turned one.

First Time In All-Star History ...

First Time In All-Star History ...

no Yankee nor Red Sox in Starting Lineup!

The closest either team got was Bogaerts 4th in the voting, 8 million behind. ARod finished 5th at DH.

How the mighty have fallen. In 1939 eight of the nine starters were Yankkees or Red Sox. The Tigers Hank Greenberg was the only starter from the rest of the league. He got the nod over Gehrig.

Win today and only chasing 4.5 games. Offense is starting to come around, like our chances in the second half.

We need to get a starting pitcher, Cueto please over Hamels. Especially with Clay being hurt every other day.
