Jeter with 2 more hits, .320 Trails Murray by 11.
Kuroda no hitter into the 7th. Complete game two hit shutout. Dropped his ERA to 3.06
Garcia 6-5 v Feldman 6-7 on Wednesday.
O's W: TB L
Both are 6 behind.
We rolling now
Perhaps.
Kuroda has stepped up but without C.C. there is no strength among the starting pitchers.
Home Run Hughes is inconsistent.
Nova needs an 8 run lead.
Garcia at best is a .500 pitcher.
Phelps just had a nice effort but he's a bullpen guy.
Pettitte was a pleasant surprise but he was only 3-3 and I doubt he'll be back.
NY has 13 games left against Balt and TB plus a series with Chisox and Tribe in addition to a bunch of games with Bosox and Jays.
IF CC is out or ineffective for a month all the Balt/TB would be over without him. A 6 game lead can evaporate easily if Kuroda is the only bettering .500 ball.
Yes but much of this has been true for a large part of the season and we still have the best reord. I don't think we will win the world series but I fully expect to take the division
Pettitte was a pleasant surprise but he was only 3-3 and I doubt he'll be back.
Why do you think Pettitte won't be back? I know he had a setback during rehab, but his latest X-ray (Monday) showed improvement.
No inside info. Simply because he's 40 and has had setbacks during rehab (swelling). Do you expect him to be effective when he comes back? How long will it take him to work back into playing shape? Does he have stamina without being able to run? I'm sure he's working diligently but I don't see him being much help.
This is a 40 year old arm not a 22 year old. Are the muscles in shoulder, back, and legs ready for the effort? Before he pitched for the Yankees he pitched simulated games in Tampa and then did a minor league stint.
The good news is it was his non-pivoting leg. But he's still going to come down on it 80-90 times per game.
And if he is ready he's still a 3-3 pitcher. He's not the #1 or #2 pitcher in the rotation that you win playoffs in. He was, once upon a time.
I still think he can be effective if he returns. He had a 3.22 ERA before being hit by that line drive. I'm more worried about his arm strength than his stamina (pool work is being substituted for running right now). He is scheduled to start long tossing this week.
He doesn't have to be a #1 (CC- no structural damage and said he could pitch through his injury right now) or #2 (Kuroda- what a surprise (at least to me) he's been). I would settle for #3 or #4. He's got 53 days until the ALDS.
Gimme six innings and get it to the pen.
If he could pitch through his injury he'd wouldn't be on the DL. They could skip a couple of turns with him working out IN the bullpen for rehab.
Look back through this thread and you'll see I predicated my comments on IF C.C. is NOT available.
I agree Kuroda has been a pleasant surprise. He's having a Career Year. He's got his lowest ERA since joining MLB and he's having in ONLY winning season in his MLB Career. But having a 52-54 record after 6 years with LAD and NYY is awe inspiring. He's always had a good ERA but mediocre W/L record which makes me think inconsistent. Pitch a shutout one turn and then give up 6 runs in the next and you have a 3.00 ERA looks great but it isn't.
NY needs an effective CC and one other effective starter to succeed in post season play.
"I thought I had good stuff -- as good stuff as I've had all year -- in Detroit," Sabathia said. "I know I can pitch with it."
Asked if he could pitch today if it was October and it was a playoff game, Sabathia gave a two-word answer: "Of course."
I'm trying to go to the game today but can't find anyone else to go. This will probably be the first season of my life that I haven't been to a Yankee game.
After I posted this I bought tickets to Saturday's Red Sox game. My first ever!
Phelps pitched well giving up 3 runs over 6.2 but Lester pitched better holding NY to 1 run.
Jeter drew a collar.
TB and O's both win. TB now 5 behind.
Sunday 8:05 pm Beckett 5-10, 5.19 v Kuroda 11-8
Beckett's last two outings have been terrible, 5 HRs, 14 earned runs in 10.1 innings. 5.19 ERA.
Kuroda threw a 2 hit complete game shutout against TX after getting banged by Detroit for 10 hits in his previous start. 3.06 ERA
At least I got to heckle valentine
Question is how long can he play in the infield and would NY DH a singles hitter at 40 so he could pass Musial and chase Aaron?
